Dr. Argonza Introduces SKSU Internal Assessment Team

Over-All Coordinator Dr. Bahalla Ensures SKSU is in Good Hands

By: Evora H. Dioneza

Dr. Marcelina O. Bahalla, the over-all Coordinator of the AACCUP Survey Visit on June 27-30, 2017 quoted during the opening program that SKSU is in good hands with the team of accreditors for said visit.

“I have brought with me three banks for this visit: we find ways (BDO) because we want to help you grow further ( Landbank) and assure you that you are in good hands (Metrobank)” added Dr. Bahalla.

“We have to work hand in hand to provide the missing

documents. I have a secret, why the college of Agriculture of USM does not fail the accredita-

tion for several visits. I always make sure that the ones who face the accreditors are the key officials of the University”, Dr. Bahalla quoted.

The Coordinator also thanked the University for the warm welcome and accommoda-

tion.

Finally, Dr. Bahalla reminded the audience of the program to look into LBC, so every-body should set time for all the ac-tivities of the survey visit.

“So to all Campuses, if you want to grow to-gether, we have to set the deadlines, where no one should be left be-

hind. We will finish everything by June 29, so we can go home early” concluded Dr. Bahalla dur-ing her speech.

Dr. Bahalla Speaks from the Heart… “Loving your work and Honesty Make-Up an Effective

Professional and straightforward- the 66- year old Retiree of the University of Southern

Mindano, who served as the Over-all Coordinator of the Accreditation Team, Dr. Marcelina O. Ba-

halla shared her significant insights about accreditation. She has been an accreditor for almost

Seventeen years. According to her, it needs passion, honesty, sacrifice and self-denial in order to

become an effective accreditor. Every accreditor should possess these qualities as he/she is ac-

countable of his/her decisions. She pointed out three aspects, to whom or to which every accredi-

tor is accountable; to: 1) God; 2) to his/her own institution; and 3) to the school being accredited.

“How can you help if you are being confronted by your conscience of failing a program, which is

not supposed to be failed, or passing a program, but not worthy at all”, she further emphasized.

“To fail or pass a program is not an easy decision”, she said. Hence, you need to be effec-

tive to the extent of sacrificing your concerns at home and give your full attention to your work

during accreditation. You could not perform very well if you have divided attention between your

work as an accreditor and your personal concerns at home, she added.

The vast development of Sultan Kudarat State University from a State College towards its

conversion into a University has also a great impact to her. SKSU is a fast-growing University and

its pro-active response towards accreditation is commendable, she said. Her appreciation has ex-

tended even to the janitorial/utility manpower of SKSU who made huge contributions for the

cleanliness and orderliness of the school surroundings. According to her, accreditation is not just

only for the people at the Top positions in the University but even to those in the lower-ranking

positions.

We find ways. . . to help you grow. . . and assure that you’re in good hands. -Dr. Marcelina O. Bahalla

“In SKSU, we don’t dream for success, we work for it” This was the motto of the head of the University which was published in the issue of The President’s Business.

In the SKSU Roadmap, by 2016 85% of the programs are already accredited; this is where the scheduled survey accreditation is anchored with.

A total of ten program offerings of the University were evaluated from June 27-June 30, 2017, by the Accrediting Agency of State Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) for First Survey Visit and Prelimi-nary Survey Visit, ACCESS, EJC Montilla, Tacurong City.

The following were subjected to the survey visit for said period: Bachelor of Arts In Economics, Bachelor of Science In Entrepre-neurship and Bachelor of Science In Criminol-

ogy, Bachelor of Arts In Political Science of Tacurong Campus; Bachelor of Secondary Education , Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Elementary Edu-cation of Kalamansig Campus, Bachelor in Elementary Education of Lutayan Campus and Bachelor of Agricultural Business Man-agement of Bagumbayan Campus.

According to Dr. Ma. Jeanelle Argonza, the University Accreditation Chairman, the fol-lowing are the areas for evaluation: Area I- Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives, Area II- Faculty, Area III- Curriculum and Instruc-tion, Area IV-Support to Students, Area V- Re-search, Area VI- Extension, AreaVII- Library, Area VIII- Physical Plant/ Facilities, Area IX- Laboratories and Area X- Administration.

The evaluators arrived in June 26. They were welcomed by the University’s Key

BEED Program of Palimbang Campus Submitted for Level I Accreditation

For the first time, Palimbang campus sub-mitted its BEED Program for Level I accreditation. Motivated by the spirit of cooperation and unity, the Palimabng Campus’ faculty and staff, headed by its Campus Director, Dr. Hubaida A. Mama-linta, joined in the Opening Program of the Sur-vey Visit on June 27, 2017, Ang Magsasaka Train-ing Center, ACCESS, EJC Montilla, Tacurong City. The accreditation/evaluation proper for Palimbang, Lutayan and Bagumbayan campuses was conducted at the IGS Library.

As expected, the AACCUP lead accreditors were very smart, intelligent, and experienced in their assigned areas. Hence, extra effort was ex-erted in order to meet the needed documents. The entire evaluation entailed evidence-based process.

After the 3-day rigid evaluation of docu-ments, the Palimbang Accreditation Taskforce felt relieved after meeting all the requirements set by each parameter.

DR. MARCELINA O. BAHALLA,

head of the delegate of Accredi-tors from AACCUP (Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities) issued the pledge in her opening statement at the opening program conducted at the Ang Magsasaka Building, AC-CESS Campus on June 27, 2017.

The statement was made due to the fact that some of the Accreditors invited to participate in the accreditation of 10 pro-grams from SKSU reneged, citing various reasons such as the on-going conflict in Marawi City, and the standing martial Law im-posed in Mindanao. The state-ment was also meant as an aside to the rather mundane fact that the delegates who did arrived are under-manned and under some difficulties in the performance of their tasks.

“For the Love of Accredi-tation, we are here to serve you,” Dr. Bahalla added. Applauding her fellow Accreditors because of their dedication and passion, and their indomitable will to serve

AACCUP Accreditors:

and help other institutions such as SKSU, she said that there can never be enough reasons to refuse serving, especially in the area of Accreditation.

Overall, SKSU submitted 10 programs for Accreditation. From Tacurong Campus, the AB Political Science, BS Entrepre-neurship, and BS Economics Programs were submitted for level I, while the BS Criminology Program was submitted for Level II. Bagumbayan Campus submitted Agricultural Business Management Program for Level I. Kalamansig Campus has three programs, the Bachelor in Ele-mentary Education, Bachelor in Secondary Education, and the Bachelor in Information Tech-nology. Lutayan and Palimbang Campuses both submitted Bachelor in Elementary Educa-tion Programs.

On one side, Mrs. Jovita S. Carigaba, the Accreditation Coordinator for Tacurong Cam-pus, made mention of the smooth proceedings of the con-

duct of Accreditation. This is due to the fact that the Accreditors were not too demanding and hard on the Area Task Forces, she said. Upon hearing the com-ment of Dr. Bahalla on SKSU’s status in Accreditation as “getting there”, she replied that it is due to the fact that the peo-ple involved were really willing to work despite the limited time allotted to prepare and produce documents.

“Let us keep the fire burning in our pursuit to achieve our important goal, and that is to make our programs as centers of development and better yet, centers of Excellence”. This re-mark was echoed by Dr. Reynaldo H. Dalayap, Ph. D., the Campus Director for Tacurong, when he said that “… with your passion and work ethics, there is nothing that we cannot achieve”.

The Accreditation actu-ally started on June 27, 2017, and will end on June 30, 2017.

To be updated with the rele-

vant and trending teaching strategies and technologies, edu-cational programs are accred-ited. This constantly challenges institutions not just to deliver high quality education but also to check if the four-fold func-tions are performed. The team of AACCUP Ac-creditors led by Dr. Beatrice C. Garcia of Bukidnon State Univer-sity visited the Campus on June 28, 2017 for the ocular inspec-tion of the Bachelor in Elemen-tary Education Program. She was joined by Dr. Ricardo B. Somblingo of Western Mindanao State University to inspect the physical facilities. On the other hand, Dr. Estela C. Itaas of Bukid-non State University deter-minedly traversed Alabel, Saran-gani Province to verify the Farm-ers’ Livestock School, an Exten-sion Project of the program. Prof. Nathaniel Naanep, Dr. Ne B. Velasco and Prof. Fely L. Dacayo accompanied Dr. Itaas in the survey visit. Dr. Garcia observed one class in the BEED Program. She commented that the students who reported during the class dynamics were good. “We are very happy to welcome them”, said Nieves J. Comicho, Associate Dean of the College of Teacher Education and Accreditation Chairman said during the ocular visit of the Ac-

creditors. “The Campus has prepared for this. Everyone helped. The students, faculty and staff worked hand in hand to make this happen. This would not also become possi-ble without the support of the Administration”. She further stated.

graduates since 2006. It primarily provides quality education to the residents of the Lutayan and other nearby areas. This was a product of the earnest request of the municipality to have a state college/university to which their constituents could attend and afford. It passed the Prelimi-nary Survey Visit last May 2015.
