WELCOME TOOUR SPORTS ACADEMYFIRST CLASS SPORTS PROVISION FOR THE LATEST UP AND COMING TALENT.All of our Sports Academies at DurhamSixth Form Centre allow each and everystudent to develop their sporting talents to a level not normally supported in schools. Regional and national recognition for Academy students is one of the development goals of our Sports Academies.

Whilst studying at Durham Sixth Form Centre as a member of our Sports Academy programme you will also have access to all that Durham Sixth Form Centre has to offer such as;- access to a full and comprehensive range of subjects at A Level and in BTEC Level 3 qualifications,- an award winning careers information, advice and guidance service,- financial support which is available to all of our students,- an enrichment programme which provides opportunities to try new things, take existing skills and interests further and meet new people, - we are also next door to Freemans Quay, the Gala Theatre and the planned Freemans Reach. Our students enjoy having all of the city centre facilities, shops, restaurants, the city library, cinema and theatre right on their doorstep.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?As a member of the Sports Academy there are opportunities to gain nationally recognised qualifications in sport whilst playing at local, county and national level. Each programme also covers employability skills to prepare students for future careers in their chosen sport or in the wider world of sport.

ABOUT OUR CRICKET ACADEMYBAT, BOWL AND FIELD YOUR WAY TO ASHES GLORY.The ultimate goal of Durham Sixth Form Centre’s Cricket Academy is to take a limited and select squad of talented, aspiring cricketerswho have a desire to become a professional cricketer and shape them into quality County level players.
Durham Sixth Form Centre’s Cricket Academy programme concentrates on mastering the basics and fine tuning skills, allowing players to fulfill their potential at the highest level.
INDOOR CRICKET COMPETITIONS PLAYED AT HEADINGLY...
WHAT WILL YOU DO AT THE ACADEMY?- All Cricket Academy students enrol onto either a BTEC Level 3 Sport course or a programme of A level courses including PE and Sport.
- All Cricket Academy students train, play or practise for up to 6 hours a week, according to the time of year and programme of study, in Freemans Quay and Riverside County Cricket ground in Chester-le-Street.
- All players have access to world class facilities, lanes of nets, new bowling machines and advanced video technology.
- All players have the opportunity to play fixtures against Durham School and the Marylebone Cricket Club as well as indoor tournaments.
- Players also have the opportunity to train as umpires and coaches within the England and Wales Cricket board structure.

ABOUT OUR FOOTBALL ACADEMY >>>>>>>
WHAT WILL YOU DO AT THE ACADEMY?- Football Academy students enrol onto a BTEC Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sport course (2 or 3 A level equivalent).
- Football Academy students train for a minimum of 6 hours per week at Durham City Stadium and Soccarena Football Development Centre.
- All players are coached by qualified coach Richard Ord, an ex-Sunderland and QPR professional and fully qualified UEFA ‘B’ coach.
- All players have the opportunity to play weekly competitive matches in the English Schools Trophy.
- Durham Sixth Form Centre’s Football Academy participate in a comprehensive competition programme across the UK, all Academy players have the opportunity to compete in either the ECFA or NECL leagues against the best colleges in the Country.
- All players receive a subsidised kit from Nike, including full playing and training strips.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS-You will have the opportunity to;
- gain a FA Level 1 and/or 2 Coaching qualification,- gain a Level 2 Community Sports Leadership Award,- gain a Level 3 Higher Sports Leadership Award,- undertake First Aid training,- undertake Safeguarding Children training and
- undertake a work placement in a football related industry.

ARE YOU THE NORTH EAST’S NEXT PRO GOLFER?County Durham and Sunderland are known for their golf clubs and their passion for the sport, with some of the country’s leading hotel golf courses.
Durham Sixth Form Centre is working in partnership with local golf courses and in particular Ramside Golf Club to help you develop your golfing skills.
You will get the opportunity to learn alongside club professionals, develop your technique and improve your handicap and match play skills. Not only do you get all the benefits from joining the Academy but you will also learn valuable work skills that will help you to get a job in the golf industry, while you improve and head towards the professional game.

WHAT WILL YOU DO AT THE ACADEMY?- All Golf Academy students enrol onto either a BTEC Level 3 Sport course or a programme of A level courses including PE and Sport.- All Golf Academy students train for up to 3 hours every week with our PGA qualified coaches. - All players have in depth swing analysis using C-Swing Video Coaching and Explanar.- All players have the opportunity to participate in weekly English Collegiate Golf matches.

In November 2012 Lyndon Longhorne broke the British record for the 150m individual medley by 3 seconds. He has been selected to attend a training camp in Dubai for the Road to Rio’hopefuls. Alongside Lyndon’s tight training regime he is studying A-Level Computer Studies, Sport & PE and BTEC Forensic Science.
