Sunday Reading Reflection Peanut butter and jelly, bacon and eggs, chocolate and peanut butter; these things go great together. There are colors like that. Red makes green pop. Green makes red redder. Blue and orange, purple and yellow, black and white; these all make the other more of what it is. It is really part of the very artwork (which is everything) that God (the artist) has made, it being complementing contrasts, the most notable being male and female. What we see in the Gospel today is one of those little commands that we find clearly stated in the ancient Old Testament, that we have to love our neighbor. It is so simple. God repeats it in the Old Testament many times but still when Jesus tells us again, when God comes in human form from heaven and earth and says it, it seems like the first time and totally new. By the end of any given day this basic command of commands, love your neighbor, fades from our minds and we are caught up with struggles to love many of our neighbors, be it our spouse, coworker, children, parents, actual neighbor next door, boss, bishop, priest, deacon, a person we serve or a person who works for us. Jesus cuts us all to the quick when he says this love must be “from the heart.” This is one of the many reasons we go to church every Sunday and pray the Our Father every day. It is so that we keep starting again to love and love from the heart. It is not a boring command. It contrasts well with our own need for mercy. If we keep our own sins and failings before us always, it will help us to be successful lovers. Our relationship with Love i.e. God will be strong when the mercy we need to be in love with Him is flowing to our neighbors, flowing from our hearts.

Other news We have a few people coming spontaneously who have time who want to help, and I have asked them to do some cleaning. If you would like to help clean please let me know. A little dusting here, vacuuming there, bathroom cleaning and trash emptying goes a long way. I talked to our Vicar Forane here in the vicariate and he has directed me to have PPC meetings together so that is starting. There are many who would like to go inside for mass and there are people who have started to enjoy the outside masses, inside, already. It is much safer if we have a few people who are inside hearing the mass and having the distribution of communion in the Church and some people outside. It creates a huge space to accommodate many with a lot of elbow room. If you come close to the outdoor offerings (which for safety reasons we will continue for as long as the weather holds out) bring regular umbrellas. It is your own shade. A man approached who is going to try his hand at improving the audio outside. There is still a way to have this professionally done. If a donor would like to know more, please contact me. We are looking for some real gold leaf if anyone would like to purchase it. Fr. Ed Derosier is back. We are blessed. Keep praying for his continued health and full recovery. His spirit is strong, and Fr. Anthony and Deacon Mike Markham are helping him for now, as am I. Thank God for this wonderful faith filled couple who just got married and are featured on the bulletin cover. Pray for Elaine who is very sick and in her sunset years. ~Fr. St. Martin

Save The Date

Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a non-profit founded to provide beds for children that don’t have any. Through the efforts of volunteers and generous

donations, beds are built, delivered and assembled for children who otherwise sleep on couches, blankets or even the floor. When we deliver a bed, we are also

bringing the pillows, twin sheet sets, mattresses, blankets and comforters.

If you would like to volunteer for a build day and get involved with this wonderful organization, we will be having a Bunks Across America Day on

September 26th, in Littleton. Please let me know if you are interested, call or email me: Debbie Pothier (978) 597-8119,

email [email protected], please put SHP in the subject line

Hello, everyone - registrations for our religious education programs for 2020-2021 are open! Visit our website and click the "Religious Education" tab for instructions on how to register. If you're new to the parish, welcome! After you've registered for classes, have your former parish mail us any of your children's sacramental records that they have on file. Classes will begin the first or second week of October. After you register, we will enroll your child in a class, and your child's teacher

will be in touch with you to coordinate when, how, and how frequently the class would like to meet for lessons. Some classes might agree to meet in small groups in the church hall; others might prefer to meet half or entirely in remote fashion. But be assured that if you're concerned about the risks of your child attending meetings in person, all of our teachers are equipped to offer virtual participation options or 100% online lessons. Just let your teacher know if you have any questions, and we'll make sure to find a suitable way for everyone to continue growing in their understanding of the content of our beautiful Catholic faith.

Registration fees are as follows: Grades 1, 3, 4, 5 - $70 / student Grades 6, 7, 8 - $80 / student Grade 2 - $90 / student Confirmation I (CYI) and Confirmation II (CYII) - $110 / student Family Cap - $200 / family

Pay online through Online Giving (see the Religious Education website) by designating your gift for "Religious Education." Or make checks payable to "Our Lady of Grace Parish" with a memo that reads "Religious Ed" and either place in the collection or mail to the parish.

Inability to pay the registration fee will never get in the way of one of our students receiving religious education, so don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any concerns.

Thank you and God bless! I look forward to serving you all this academic year! Our Lady of Grace, pray for us.

Permanent Diaconate Inquirers Program: Is Christ Calling You?

God is calling each of us to serve one another in charity and love and Pope Francis speaks to this call constantly. For some there is a particular invitation to serve Christ and the Church in ordained ministry. The Permanent Diaconate, restored at Vatican II, is a ministry of service that is open to married and single men. The deacon’s ministry, in the words of Blessed Pope John Paul II, “is the Church’s service sacramentalized.” Deacons are ordained to the Ministry of Service in three areas: Word, Sacrament, and Charity. As a servant to the Word, deacons proclaim the gospel, instruct the faithful, and evangelize by word and deed, as did the great deacons Saint Stephen and Saint Francis. As a servant of the sacramental life of the church, deacons preside at baptisms, assist at the Eucharist, bring the Eucharist to the sick and suffering, witness marriages, bury the dead, and preside at Benediction. As a servant of charity, like the great deacon Saint Lawrence, deacons report the needs of the community to the Church and bring its support and assistance to those in need. The deacon is called to be the “Icon of Christ the Servant” living out the life of charity for the people of God and being an “animator” for all to feed the hungry, visit the sick, and care for one another in our brokenness. Because deacons work in the secular world and most are married men with families, they share in the worries and stresses of daily life. Permanent deacons know well the difficulties of balancing faith, family, and financial security. Through the deacon living in the world as an ordained minister, the Church knows personally the challenges, demands, fears, and anxieties of the People of God. By his vocation the deacon bridges work, family, and leisure with the life of the Church. In fact, by living and working in the secular world, the deacon seeks to model, in his person, the integration of what one believes and how one lives. If you are discerning God’s possible call to serve the Church as a minister of Charity, Word, and Sacrament as an ordained deacon in the Archdiocese of Boston, you and your wife are invited to take part in the upcoming Online Inquirer Webinar Program. The program consists of three sessions :

Session I: Who is the Deacon and am I one who is called?

Option 1: Tuesday, September 29, 2020, 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM Option 2: Tuesday, October 6, 2020, 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Session II: Canonical Questions and Discernment Tuesday, October 20, 2020, 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Session III: Morning of Recollection/Application Process Saturday, November 14, 2020, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

To register for the Webinar series please visit www.bostondiaconate.org. Those who are interested in the Diaconate are strongly encouraged to participate in all three online webinar sessions. Questions concerning the inquiry program can be directed to Deacon Christopher Connelly, Director for the Permanent Diaconate by email, [email protected].
