examples and real life experiences that come from the people living and working in such a vibrant and challenging business environment.”

International assignments

Designed to develop your skills in managing across boundaries and coping with ambiguity, the international assignment is your opportunity to embark on a week-long assignment to a key global business location. It allows you to experience the way in which business is conducted in other economies and markets of the world. It will test your ability to apply skills in an unfamiliar business environment and provide genuine benefits to the companies you are consulting for.

Depending on the location, students may conduct a communications audit on a company, advising on areas of best practice and how to achieve tangible improvements in communications activities. You may also work with companies to understand better the impact of new, emerging or changing national economies on different kinds of businesses, entrepreneurial, state-owned or international. Recent destinations have included China, India, South Africa, and Ukraine.

One international assignment is compulsory and you have the option of undertaking a second one at an additional cost, as part of your elective options.

Management reports

The management reports enable you to integrate what you have learnt on the programme and to apply this to an issue concerning your, or any, organisation. Working either individually or in a group, they give you an opportunity to provide a substantial, tangible benefit to your sponsor, alongside the ongoing benefits of applying the knowledge acquired from the programme to your responsibilities at work. The reports also help to demonstrate your ability to integrate theory and practice and use the knowledge and tools introduced on the programme effectively.

International assignment and management report

The second part of the programme allows you to integrate what you have learnt, and apply the skills and knowledge you have gained. Maximise your personal and professional effectiveness by stepping out of the classroom and applying theories to the real world.

Page 15: Dubai London Mba

13

Skills portfolio

Developing your interpersonal skills is a vital ingredient to effective management and leadership. We dedicate four days to expanding your personal skills set. The skills portfolio offers a range of workshops focused on your personal development.

Some of the most popular skills workshops include:

•Presenting at the Next Level – Provides you with practical tools and techniques to plan, rehearse and deliver presentations with impact.

Handling Conflict –• Develop practical approaches to confront and manage conflict situations openly within a participative, practical and interactive workshop.

Influencing and Persuading –• Discover how to tackle challenging situations and people with powerful techniques that can be used when gaining commitment and building strong relationships with others.

Business Writing –• Being able to produce clear written communications is a core business skill. This is especially true in today’s global environment where it is common for members of a team to be separated by geographical distance and time zones. Learn to write clearly and persuasively, and discover how to order your ideas logically to get the results you want.

Performance Management –• Drawing on your own experiences, this workshop provides the tools and key skills needed to motivate, focus and process clear feedback in real world situations.

Conducting an Interview –• Gives you the essential skills you need to handle any interview process end-to-end. You will look at the different kinds of interviews and arrive at objective decision criteria.

Negotiation –• Uses proven tools, techniques and tactics of principled negotiation, within multinational guidelines.

You will graduate with a stronger awareness of what you want to achieve in your career, an outstanding CV, practical networking skills, increased confidence and tips for interviewing, a good knowledge of working with head-hunters and guidance on how to conduct a successful independent job search.

In addition to the sessions run by the Career Services team, you will have worldwide, online access 24 hours a day to recommended reading for all aspects of career planning and career management, and job postings.

The School is expanding its presence in the Middle East and a dedicated Business Development Manager based in Dubai will raise the profile of the School, build and grow relationships with organisations and increase the number of job postings in the region. Our annual Dubai career event will enable you to meet and network with companies, institutions and alumni from the region face-to-face.

As a graduate of London Business School, you can benefit from the School’s Alumni Career Services. Alumni Career Services is dedicated to help you regardless of your career stage, career circumstances or geography. “What is distinctive and highly attractive about the Dubai-London Executive MBA programme is the quality and diversity of the participants. The programme reflects London Business School’s status as a world-class business school, for the programme has a genuinely global

reach. We currently have participants travelling each month to Dubai not just from within the GCC countries, but also from as far as Berlin, Casablanca, Geneva, Jakarta, Lagos, London, Moscow, Mumbai, New York and Tokyo.

“Of equal importance is the fact that our participants represent a wonderfully diverse range of professional backgrounds. Current participants are drawn not only from the finance and IT sectors, but also from civil engineering, energy, law, leisure and hospitality, marketing, media and public

relations, medicine and health sciences, telecommunications, and transport. Together they form a fascinating and incredibly dynamic group, willing and able to share their experience in a truly positive and collaborative learning environment.”

“Three years on from the launch of the programme and there is a growing presence of Dubai-London Executive MBA students and alumni in the region. With the activities of the Gulf Association and some 450 members, there is not only a real sense of community, but access to a network of

both local and global businesses.”
