SUNNYSIDE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, ARIZ.
Dr. Isquierdo has taken a district once labeled as a dropout factory and
transformed it. The Sunnyside Uni ed School District is the second largest
school district in Tucson, Ariz., with more than 17,500 students. Nearly 84
percent of the student population qualies for free and reduced-price
lunch, one-third is classied as English Language Learners and just under 6
percent are homeless.

People say technology can
transform teaching and learn-
ing. In Sunnyside, this is
happening. We are bridging
the digital divide, the eco-
nomic divide and the language
divide with our technology
initiatives. Sunnyside is at
its tipping point. And as Mal-
