An old, blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?' The bar immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, 'Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things: 1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat. 2. The bouncer is a blonde girl with a 'Billy-Club'. 3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate. 4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter. 5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler. 'Now, think about it seriously, Cowboy. Do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?' The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters, 'No, not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.'

Round 12 Match Reports

Auskick sponsored by :

Brrr! It was definitely winter conditions at Heathcote Oval on Sunday when the Bombers played the Hawkes! Despite the cold, our players had a great time playing footy, with many not seeming to feel the cold! For our players, this weekend’s match was about having a focus on the whole game. Our coaches spoke after the game about the importance of watching the game at all times, even when the football wasn’t in our area. Our coaches also spoke about backs defending an opposition player and actively defending their goal. Well done to our players who are working hard at putting these skills into action. Also, a special mention this round to all of our fantastic parents who not only continue to be involved on match day assisting in the warm up, but who also actively help out at training. We were down a few coaches at our last training day due to the school holidays, and many parents turned up ready to assist! Thanks!! Congratulations to our Auskickers receiving either a Sports Award or the NAB Auskick Star of the week sports awards this round – Carlin, Zac, Denzel, Darcy, Kobe, Jacob, Lachlan, Hamish, Aidan, Evan, Harry and Kai. Well done

On a chilly morning at Heathcote, with smoke in the air from back burning, the boys made a slow start to the game, not helped the week off for school holidays, but worked hard to get back into the contest. Heathcote took the game on and played a hard running game. Our boys took some time to respond but our tackling pressure improved and was not always rewarded by the umpires. Overall we had the better of play in the second half, our skills levels picking up markedly to match the effort. Our execution finding teammates by foot was almost the best for the season after half time. It was great to have Rory back this week after a number of weeks out injured. Rory captained the team this week and also took home the award for a great game. Rory combined brilliantly with Ronan for one of the highlight goals of the season, a beautiful tap from the ruck to Ronan who finished off with great left foot snap. Blake was also great today tackling hard and winning a lot of contested footy. Bailey was very strong at the ball and took the game on. Seb and Brayden provided their normal hard running all day. Nathan continued to improve following his long lay off. Will and Mitch competed hard around the contest and Josh had a number of classy touches. Levi was his normal courageous self. James worked hard in the middle applying good tackling pressure. Noah B provided a good target forward and worked hard to keep the ball in our forward zone. Flynn provided a great contest around the ground winning a lot of contested ball. Liam read the ball well across half back and intercepted Heathcote ball a number of times. Special thanks to Kai today who filled in for the first quarter and competed very hard for the footy. We also look forward to Noah G and Theo returning from illness next week.

ROUND 11 MATCH REPORT If the last two weeks show anything, it is that even small margins in the skill levels of teams can lead to significant gaps on the score board. Last week we were the vanquished and this week, the victors. This was in no small part due to the excellent ball use, especially when running with the win in the second and fourth quarters. It was during these periods that we were able to consolidate our lead. During the first and third periods, with the gale in our faces, the game was very even and as expected we struggled to get the ball forward as often. There were, I am pleased to say, excellent performances around the ground including: Harry P: Lots of ball, but the 40m plus ‘Blightesque’ effort after the half time siren was a highlight, even if it was touched on the line. Jasper: Strong in the backs, good in the middle and while up front guide a set shot goal by judging the wind like a professional. Corey: Another brilliant game. Not only did he supply excellent taps for the rovers to kick goals, in the middle he picked it up and got it forward. Harry G: Very strong in the backline, preventing his opponent from getting the ball time and time again, and a goal to boot later in the game. Hadrian: Another stronger effort, including laying a tackle and getting a number of shots on goal. Luke: Got game! When he runs into space and kicks those long straight goals it is poetry in motion. Matt: Important once again. No one stops him when he uses his side step. Xavier: Backed up his excellent training with a strong showing in the forwards and equally frugal display in the backs. Jack: Not only does he continues to puts his head over the ball in textbook fashion but he never wastes a possession. Tex: Seemed to relish the opportunity to kick the ball as long as he could with the wind and did so effectively. Sebastian: Slow start, strong finish. Once the first quarter cobwebs were blown away he laid some crunching tackles and played excellent positional play. Rhys: Played a blinder. Went from stopping goals at one end to kicking them at the other all in the space of a minute. Franklin: Did well in the centre creating a link between forwards and backs. Peter: Did another wonderful job for his team clearing the ball out of the backs. The next few weeks will be interesting since we come up against two teams close to us on the ladder. A commitment to getting the loose ball and running to help team mates will be required if we are to win these games.

ROUND 12 MATCH REPORT

In our previous meeting at Waratah against Penshurst, we came away with a close fought win. Yet, despite getting the four points that day it was clear that Penshurst had looked more comfortable when they had space to run. It was with some trepidation therefore that the coach observed the wide, dry Olds Park Oval Number 2. Home ground advantage works both ways and Penshurst used their field to advantage, spreading the ball wide and running when they got the chance. By the end of the first quarter we were down by about two goals, and this was extended to three goals at the half and four, midway through the third. It was clear that our opponents were happier to run while the Bombers were struggling to get to contests and pick up the loose ball. But near the end of the third quarter the game changed. There was a stronger attack on the ball, a greater focus to make it their own and a change in momentum. Three goals in as many minutes and we clearly had the momentum going into the last. Their lead was down to a goal and a half, we had the wind and the scoring end. In the last quarter we started well again, kicking the first goal and looking strong. Could we pull it out of the fire? Alas, no. To their credit Penshurst dug deep and controlled the ball after our opening goal, stifling our efforts to get another in the next few minutes and kicked one of their own to close out the contest. Special mentions to Harry P, for another strong game and Peter D, for his best game this year.

Under 13 sponsored by : Miranda - 3.4 - 22 Heathcote - 8.3 - 51 Round 12 saw the mighty Under 13 Bombers up against Heathcote at their home ground on what was a windy and cold day. The sun was shining though and it was good conditions for footy. Our last game against the Hawks in Round 5 saw the team "beaten up" on the ground and on the score board and started a run of 5 straight defeats. The team had some baggage against Heathcote and we were looking to get rid of that and stretch and compete well against a good footy team that was sitting second on the ladder. Even though the final scoreboard may not reflect that, the mighty Under 13's did compete and stretched the Hawks all the way. I could not be any more proud of how the team performed than I was on Sunday. We went in hard for the ball and we kept up the pressure all the way. The team really stood up and showed what a good team they are. In fact, after 5 minutes of the last quarter, we had come out and kicked the first goal of the quarter and were only 1 goal behind the Hawks which really shocked them as they had expected us to be easy pickings. In fact, one of the Hawks parents came up to me after the game to compliment the team on how well they played. Well done guys, that was a great game and I could not ask anymore of you, I am very proud of each of you. No one dropped their heads and no one gave up, everyone tried until the final whistle. In the end though, the Hawks had 3 interchange players and we did not have any and with a few Bomber injuries and some forced shuffling of positions, the Hawks got on top and kicked some late goals in the last quarter and were deserved winners. Overall a great team effort but there were some stand out efforts. Nathan Harris won the man of the match award. His game was awesome and he gained a lot of possessions on the wing. He attacked the footy and took some great marks and was a great link between the back line and forward line. He is showing skills and a knowledge of the game well above that of a first year player and he is playing great footy, well done Nathan, please keep it up. Sam Mood on the other wing was also impressive. Sam is also a first year player but his development throughout the season has been fantastic and he is playing good footy. He is more involved in the game and playing a key role and gathering a lot of possessions. Good work Sam. Harry Hewitt followed up his good game against Penshurst with another impressive effort. Harry did a job for the team in defence for the first three quarters and did a great job and then moved to the forwards and made his presence felt. Harry has really taken to the game in his first year and is playing good footy and using his size and athleticism to his advantage. Good work Harry. Cooper was very good in defence again this week and his attack on bigger is inspirational. Aidan Selcraig had a great game and he never gave his opposite a moments peace. Good work Aidan. Jake was solid as a rock at the back and was good as always as was Jay who also spent the last quarter in the centre and created havoc and played really well. Darcy was very good of half back this week and he used his speed to his advantage and got plenty of ball, well done Darcy. Jarrod kicked a great goal in the forwards and his overall game was great. He attacked the ball well and was always presenting as a good option. Good work Jarrod. He was well supported by Mitch who also attacked the ball well and Raf was really good as well and he has improved every week and is now gathering some great possessions. Dutchy was really good this week and he was a headache for the defence throughout the game. Dutchy's attack on the ball is great and he is a great offensive weapon for the Bombers. Tom Bramley joined the team and he had a great first game. He gathered some possessions in the forwards and was a good option out of forward pocket and did a great job as back pocket in the last quarter. Well done Tom and welcome to the team. Harro, Trav, Logan and Tim M were very good out of the centre this week. They worked well as a unit and

attacked the ball and covered the ground very well. They always put in good efforts, well done guys. I would like to thank each of the parents and supporters who came to cheer on the team, I really appreciate your efforts and commitment to the team. My thanks especially to Lyn Harvey who did a great job managing the team as she always does. My thanks to Sean, Brendan and Stu for carrying messages and water to the team. Rob for boundary umpire and Nathan for doing a great job as goal umpire. Go the Bombers! Chris Harrison

Under 15 sponsored by : Miranda Bombers 4 - 7 - 31 Newtown Swans 12 - 11 - 83 Undermanned and with injuries our Bombers played a controlling and hard at it game of footy for the first quarter but were unable to keep the intensity throughout the game. Congratulations to the Swans for their efforts today and we will have to go back to the drawing board for the next time we come up against this team. Our game highlights included, Jacksons contests on half forward bottling the ball in, Davids presenting and mark in the first quarter, Tyler, Paddy and Brandons goals, Chris’ last line contests and crumbing, Ryans Shepheard for Paddy, Anthonys run down the wing in the third, Liams efforts in the back line to never give up, Joes slick pass to David on half forward, Hunters running back Mark from Tylers kick, Peters contests off half back, Brandon, Ethan and Ryans hand ball combination on the wing in the first quarter, Henrys smother, Jacks last line mark in the second, Joels captaining of the backs in the second to stem the tidal flow of goals and Braydons marks in the last quarter. We had many players trying to do what was asked of them through the game and it was just skill errors that let us down, so skills, skills, skills at training this week. Braydon received the Macdonalds award, I felt he played his best game this week for the bombers with multiple possessions including marks, kicks and handballs. Well done Braydon your hard work at training and never give up attitude is paying off. In so far as best on ground went it was tight between, Paddy, Brandon, Peter and Anthony. These guys gave us their all for four quarters and never gave up so hats off to these four. Thanks to our injured players coming along to run water and help out on the bench, Riley, Nick and Julian. Thanks to to the dads who helped out with boundary and goal umpiring and of course Chook. Goal kickers were Brandon 2, Tyler 1 and Paddy 1. Go Bombers Cam

Miranda 7.6.48 Penshurst 4.13.37 A change of venue, date and game time found the team up against Penshurst at Olds Park in the annual Back to St George Gala Day for the curtain-raiser to the curtain-raiser to the main game. The boys certainly didn’t go in as favourites, but put in a really strong performance in a very close game that saw the lead change a number of times, to come away with a very well deserved win to help cement a place in the top four and really douse our opponent’s hopes of making the finals. Congratulations to Macauley Crossan for taking away the game day award after a stellar performance all over the ground, consistently getting involved in the play and making a significant difference to the game result. Other highlights included:

Harley Hill’s explosive running early in the match, injecting himself into the play

and taking on opponents at will.

Patrick Heptinstall’s sheer guts in and around the contest, roving effectively and

bagging a goal for his efforts.

Cameron Andrew’s marking and spoiling in defence, particularly early in the

game, to dash any hopes the Panthers had of gaining ascendency.

Ben Lamb’s consistent and effective efforts around the stoppages to win

numerous possessions and move the ball forward.

James O’Leary’s menacing presence in the forward line.

The two steadying goals in the final 10 minutes from Darcy Walder-Toll and

Seb Lienert to provide the winning margin and bring the points home.

A really committed team effort and satisfying result. Thanks again to our volunteers on the day, Ian in goals, Mick on the boundary (albeit with a bad cold), Chris on runner duties and Stretch on the bottle. Go Bombers.
