TartuffeNorthumberland Theatre CompanyTartuffe was the original ‘Carry On’ fi lm, an hilarious and outrageous classic that, 350 years on, still has the ability to make audiences laugh.

Tartuffe, a rotten, religious imposter, worms his way into the once ordered household and vulnerable heart of prosperous merchant Orgon. Under the guise of piety, he looks set to succeed in driving away the son, marrying the daughter, seducing the wife, imprisoning Orgon and leaving the family destitute despite the best efforts of Orgon’s streetwise servant Dorine.

Cue disguises, thwarted lovers, eavesdropping and the famous ‘table scene’, considered by many to be one of the funniest comic set pieces ever written for the stage.

A Rake’s Progress StrangefaceA Rake’s Progress is the wild and astonishing tale of Tom Rakewell. Possessed of his dead father’s fortune, Tom forsakes the country life and embarks on a riotous journey through 18th century London. Funny and moving in equal measure, this highly original production is a cautionary tale of youthful abandon, supernatural interventions and a strange redemption.

Rousing songs, eccentric masks and rumbustious puppets, make for an extraordinary evening, loosely based on the satirical etchings of William Hogarth, whose visual observations on everyday life 300 years ago are still as true today.

Christmas Is ComeThe Mellstock Band Christmas Is Come is a delightful mixture of songs, stories, carols and tunes, drawing on a range of sources to portray the seasonal festivities of the English countryside.

The 19th century country poets John Clare and William Barnes tell of ceremonial house-visiting from mummers, wassailers and carol-singers, whilst Thomas Hardy chronicles the disasters suffered by a country choir. These serve as introductions to a wide variety of lively and unusual seasonal music, performed with authentic instruments of the period.

Storytelling doesn’t always mean ‘Once Upon A Time’. And it’s not always for children! Cat and Kasper take to the stage for an evening of 21st century storytelling for adults, with contemporary tales and a playful but powerful approach. Expect mischief, humour, enchantment and glorious singing as Kasper’s roguish masculine energy meets Cat’s seductive feminine charm.

‘Cat is one of our great storytellers, vivacious and inventive’ - Michael Morpurgo

Musical Arson!Pluck What happens when great music falls into the hands of talented idiots? You get the world’s funniest string trio - Pluck!

The hilariously incompetent trio are not so much a Classical trio as a classical mistake! Impossibly, they compete, argue, scheme, ridicule, dance, fi ght and seduce their way through Bach to Beatles. They play Brahms, Ravel and Vivaldi but in a way that would have the composers laughing in their graves!

Pluck are classically trained musicians and their comedic talent, coupled with skilled musicanship, ensure an evening of fabulous music and entertainment.

The Honey ManNew Perspectives Theatre CompanyA fascinating and beautifully detailed account of the unlikely relationship that develops one summer between Misty, a 15 year-old girl, and The Honey Man, an ‘ancient’ African-Caribbean man who has taken up residence in a derelict cottage at the edge of the picture-postcard English village where she lives.

It’s a tale of growing up and growing old, of individual responsibility and shared history, of dying bees, healing herbs and (possibly) just a little magic.

This magical production is presented by New Perspectives, one of the region’s most popular and accomplished rural touring theatre companies.
