Dragon Class Stage 1 English
Week 7Please use this document to complete your English each day.
You will need to write the date and WALT (We Are Learning To) into
your home learning book and then carefully write straight into your
book.
There is no need to print anything this week as you can use your
workbook to record your work in.
Monday 18th May 2020 WALT use adjectives to describe nouns
Read the information sheet on Adjectives and then read the story ‘Whale Words’ (see ‘Our
Learning, Week 7’).
What adjectives were in the text? Big, massive, grey, blue, etc.

Tuesday 19th May 2020 WALT describe a whale using the word ‘like’
• Read through the ‘Whale Words’ story
again and then choose another whale.
• Write two or three sentences in your
work book using the work ‘like’ to
describe your chosen whale.
Word Mat
We can use comparisons to
describe something using the word
‘like’.
Here are some examples:
• Its skin was blue like a summer’s
sky.
• The whale jumped out of the sea
like a rocket.
Wednesday 20th May 2020 WALT write an acrostic poem
• Click on the following link and watch the video https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z4mmn39/articles/ztdvw6f
• Write your own acrostic using any whale from the ‘Whale Words’ story. You could use coloured pens to
make your topic word stand out or cut letters out of a magazine or a newspaper if you want to make
it look more effective!
Writing an acrostic
1. Write the letters of your whale’s name down
the left hand side of the paper. Use capital
letters.
2. Now for each letter create a line that carries
on from the letter and says something about your
whale.
3. See if you can include some adjectives in your
lines.
* Remember to use our sound card to help with
spelling.
