Basic Drafting Tools

Drawing Table

• It is where the drawing paper is laid or fastened

Ruler

• A ruler, is an instrument used in geometry, technical drawing, printing, engineering and building to measure distances or to rule straight lines.

T - Square• T-square is a

technical drawing instrument used by draftsmen primarily as a guide for drawing horizontal lines on a drafting table. It may also guide a set square to draw vertical or diagonal lines.

Compass

• Compass is a technical drawing instrument that can be used for inscribing circles or arcs. also guide a set square to draw vertical or diagonal lines.

Triangle

• A thin, flat, right-angled piece of plastic or metal with acute angles of 45, or 30 and 60 used for drawing vertical or inclined lines that are multiples of 15

Protractor• A protractor is a

measuring instrument, typically made of transparent plastic or glass, for measuring angles. Most protractors measure angles in degrees (°)

French or Irregular Curve

Technical Pen

• A technical pen is a specialized instrument used by an engineer, architect, or drafter to make lines of constant width for architectural, engineering, or technical drawings.

Drawing Paper

• The drawing paper that is commonly used in drafting is the Oslo paper or Bond Paper.

Watercolor

• Pencils should be sharpen whenever they show signs of dullness

• Never use the edge of T-square, ruler, protractor, and triangles to cut paper along its working edge.

Proper Care of Drafting Tools and Materials.

• Wipe off the surface and edges of your T-square, ruler, protractor, and triangles before and after using them.

• Avoid dropping your compass and technical pens.

• Wash the tips of your compass after using them.
