IntroductionBocciaTherulespresentedinthistextrelatetoplayingthegameofBoccia.
The Competition Rules relate to all international competitions held under theauspicesofBISFed(BocciaInternational Sport Federation). These competitions comprise all events sanctioned by BISFed and includeWorldOpenevents,RegionalEvents,RegionalandWorldChampionships and Paralympic Games.
OrganisingCommitteesforcompetitions may add points of clarificationwiththeagreementoftheBISFed-appointedTechnicalDelegate, however these po in t s must notalter the meaning of the rules and theyshould be clearly identified on anySanctionFormsubmittedtotheBISFed.
SpiritoftheGameThe ethics and spirit of the Game are similar to those of tennis. Crowd participation is welcomed andencouraged, however spectators, including teammembers not in competition, are encouraged to remainquietduringtheactionofanathletethrowingtheball.

No flashphotography is allowed.Video filmingofmatches is permitted, however tripods and camerasmayonlybeplacedwithapprovalfromtheReferee,HR,TDorHOC.

2.EligibilityforPlay2.1Eligibility to compete is described in detail in the BISFed Classification Rules,which contain details ofthe classification profiles as well as the process forathleteclassification,reclassificationandprotests.
2.2Allathletesmustbe15yearsofagebeforeJanuary1stoftheyear inwhichtheywillbecompetinginaninternational event. International events include, but are not limited to Regional Championships, WorldChampionships,otherBISFedsanctionedeventsandParalympicGames.
3.DivisionsofPlay3.1GeneralTherearesevendivisionsofplay.Eachdivisionisplayedbyclassifiedcompetitorsofallgenders.Thedivisionsare:
• IndividualBC1• IndividualBC2• IndividualBC3• IndividualBC4• Pairs- forathletesclassifiedasBC3• Pairs- forathletesclassifiedasBC4• Team-forathletesclassifiedasBC1andBC2
3.1.1SportAssistantRulesTheBC1,BC3andBC4footplayersareallowedtohaveasportassistant.BC1andBC4´sfootplayers’sportassistantshould be positioned behind the throwing box. BC3´s sport assistant must be positioned inside their athletes’throwingbox.Thesesportassistantsperformtaskssuchas:
- Adjustorstabilizetheplayingchair–whenaskedbytheathlete- Adjusttheathlete’sposition–whenaskedbytheathlete- Rolland/orpassaballtotheathlete–whenaskedbytheathlete- Positiontheramp(forBC3)–whenaskedbytheathlete- Performroutineactionsbeforeorafterthethrow.- Pickuptheballsattheendofeachend–wheninvitedbytherefereeThe sport assistant is not allowed to have direct physical contact with theathleteduring theactof throwing,helpingtheathletebypushingor adjusting thewheelchairorthepointer.Casualtouchingoftheathleteisnotpermitted.

3.3PairsBC4Competitorsmustbeclassifiedaseligible toplay in the individualBC4division.A Pair BC4 mayincludeonesubstitute. Exceptions will be at discretion of BISFed whose decision will be final. Foot playersmay beassistedbyasportassistantwhomustabidebytheSportAssistantrules.
3.4TeamCompetitors must be classified as eligible to play in the individual BC1 or BC2division. Ateammustplaythematchwiththreeathletesandinclude at least one BC1 athlete on courtatalltimes. Each team isallowed one Sport Assistant who must abide by the Sport Assistant rules. Where there are twosubstitutes,theTeammustincludeatleasttwoBC1athletes.
3.5CoachOneCoachperdivisionofplayisallowedtoentertheWarm-upandtheCallRoomareasdesignatedforeachcompetitionmatch.
Forteamandpairsmatchesonly,thecoachisallowedtoentertheFOP(FieldofPlay).
3.6FurtherDetailsFor further details on Classification, please refer to Section 4 – Classificationand Sport Profiles – of thelatestBISFed Boccia ClassificationRules,publishedontheBISFedwebsite.
4.EquipmentandBallCheckAllitemsrequiredtoconductacompetitionmustbeprovidedbytheHostOrganizingCommitteeandapprovedbytheBISFedTechnicalDelegateofeachsanctionedevent.

Equipmentandball check must take place prior to the start of competition. The HeadReferee and/ortheir designatewillconducttheballandrampchecks at a time determined by theTechnical Delegate.Ideally, this shouldtakeplace48hoursbeforethecompetitionbegins.Ballsthatfailwillbehelduntiltheendof the competition.Gloves, splints or other devices that the athlete uses on court need to be approvedbyClassifiersandmustbebroughttoequipmentcheck.
Competitionballs,whichareballsprovidedbytheHOC,mustalsobecheckedforeachcompetition.
4.1TheCourtThe surface should be flat and smooth (e.g. polished concrete, wooden, natural or synthetic rubber.) Thesurfaceshouldbeclean.Nothingmaybeusedtointerferewiththeplayingsurface(forexample,powdersofanykind).The court dimensions are 12.5m x 6m with the throwing area divided into six throwing boxes. Allmeasurementsoftheoutsidelinesaremeasuredtotheinsideoftherelevantline.Linesdividingthethrowingboxesand thecrossaremeasured toa thinpencil linewith the tapeevenly spreadovereither sideof thatmark.ThethrowinglineandtheVlinewillbeplacedinsidethenon-validareaforJack(ref.Appendix3-CourtLayout).
Allcourtmarkingsshouldbebetween2cm&7cmwideandmustbeeasilydiscernable.Adhesivetapemaybeusedtomarklines.Thicktape,4cm–7cmwide,willbeusedforexternalboundarylines,throwingline,andtheVline.Thintape,2-3cmwide,shouldbeusedforinternallines;thelinesdividingplayingboxes,thetargetbox,and the cross. The inside dimension of the target box is 25cm x 25cm. Thin tape should be placed on theoutsideofthe25cmsquaretargetbox.
4.2ScoreboardPlacethescoreboardinapositionwhereallathletescompetinginamatchcanseeit.
4.3TimingEquipmentWhereverpossibletimingequipmentshouldbeelectronic.

4.7BocciaBalls4.7.1AsetofBocciaballsconsistsofsixred,sixblue,andonewhiteJack.Bocciaballsusedin sanctionedcompetitionsmustmeetthecriterialaiddownbytheBISFed.Eachathleteorsidemayusehisorherowncolouredballs.InindividualplayeachathletemayusetheirownJack;inteamandpairseachsidemustuseonlyoneJack.Competitionballsmayonlybeusedbyathleteswhodonotbringtheirownballstothecallroom,orbyathleteswhoseballsdonotmeetthecriteriainarandomcheck
4.7.2BocciaballcriteriaWeight:275g.+/-12g.Circumference:270mm+/-8mmNotrademarkingsarerequiredonballs,providedthattheymeettheabovecriteria.4.7.3Theballsmusthaveadefinedcolourofred,blueandwhite,andtheymustbeingoodconditionwithoutanyvisiblecutmarks.Nostickersareallowedonballs.TheHeadRefereeandultimatelytheTechnicalDelegatewillmakethefinaldecision.
4.7.4BallTesting4.7.4.1Theweightofeachballwillbetestedusingaweighscaleaccuratetowithin0.01g.
4.7.4.2 The circumference of the ball will be tested using a rigid template of thickness 7 – 7.5mm whichcontainstwoholes:oneholewithacircumferenceof262mm(the‘small’hole)andonewithacircumferenceof278mm(the‘big’hole.)Thetestprocedurewillbe:

4.7.4.2.1Eachballwillbetestedtocheckthat itwillnotpassthroughthesmallholeunder itsowngravitybyplacingtheballontopofthesmallhole.
4.7.4.2.2Eachballwillbetestedtocheckthatitwillpassthroughthebighole.Eachballwillbeplacedgentlyontopofthebighole.Theballmustpassthroughthebigholeunderitsownweight(i.e.undergravityalone).
4.7.4.6 Every ball will be dropped from a height of 0.5meter onto the big hole in the test template. ThetemplateisthenraisedGENTLYANDSLOWLYtocheckwhethertheballwillstillpassthroughthebighole.Thistestwillbeperformeduptothreetimesforeachball,andeachballmustpassthistesttwoofthethreetimes.Aballwhichfailstwicewillberejected.ArevisedballtestiscurrentlybeingfinalisedandwillbeincludedinanupdateoftheseRulesearlyin2017
4.7.4.3 The Head Refereemay perform additional random tests under Rules 4.7.4.1 – 4.7.4.2.2 in the CallRoomprecedinganymatch.
4.7.4.4AnyballwhichfailsunderRule4.7.4.1–4.7.4.4willberejectedandretainedbytheHeadRefereeuntiltheendofthecompetition;suchaballmaynotbeusedduringthecompetition.
5.AssistiveDevices5.1Arampwhenlaidonitsside,mustfitintoanareameasuring2.5mx1m.Ramps,includinganyattachments,extensionsandbasesmustbeextendedtothefullestpositionduringthemeasurement.
5.2Arampmay notcontainanymechanicaldevice thatwouldaid propulsion; speed up or slow down theball; or a i d the orientation of the ramp (i.e. lasers, levels, brakes, sighting devices, scopes, etc.) Suchmechanicaldevicesarenotpermitted in thecall roomoron the fieldofplay.Once the athlete releases theball,nothingshouldobstructtheballinanyway.
5.3Thereisnorestrictiononthelengthofthehead,mouthorarmpointer.
5.4Atthebeginningofeachendtherampmustbeclearlymovedatleast20cmtotheleftand20cmtotherightaftertherefereeindicatesthatside’sturntothrowtheJack.(17.2.2)
5.5 An athlete may usemore than one ramp and/or pointer during amatch. All assistivedevicesmustremainintheathlete'sthrowingboxfortheentireend.If the athletewishes touse any items (bottles, coats,pins, flags…) or sport equipment (head pointer, ramp or ramp extension…) during an end, these itemsmust be inside the athlete’s box at the beginning of that end. If an item is taken out of the athlete’s boxduringtheend,therefereewilljudgeaccordingtorule16.6

5.8If a ramp breaks during the match, the timemust be stopped and the athlete will be given ten (10)minutes to repairthatramp.InaPairsmatch,anathletemaysharerampswithhis/herteammateor/andthesubstitute. A replacement rampmaybe substituted between ends (the Head Referee should be notified ofthis).
5.9 Athletes that require the need of gloves and/or splints must have documented approval fromClassification.
6.Wheelchairs6.1 Competition wheelchairs should be as standard as possible. Scootersmay also be used. There is norestrictiononseatheight.
6.2Ifawheelchairbreaksduring thematch, the timemustbestoppedand theathletewillbegiventen(10)minutes for repairs. If thewheelchair cannot be repaired the athletemust carry on playing or If he or shecannot,heorshewillforfeitthematch(ref.12.8).
6.3 In case of dispute the Head Referee in conjunction with the Technical Delegate shall make adetermination.Theirdecisionisfinal.
7.MatchFormat
7.1IndividualDivision
In individual divisions a match consists of four (4) ends. Each athlete initiates two ends with control of the Jack alternating between athletes. Each athlete has six (6) coloured balls. The side throwing red balls will occupy throwing box 3, and the side throwing blue balls will occupy throwing box 4. Whenenteringthecallroomeachathletemaybringintothecallroom6redballs,6blueballsand1Jack.
7.2PairsDivisionIn thepairsdivisionamatchconsistsof four (4)ends.Eachathlete initiatesoneendwith thecontrolof theJack passing innumerical order from throwing box 2 to 5. 8.WarmUp8.1Prior to the start of each match athletes may warm up in the designatedWarmUparea. TheWarmUparea is tobeusedexclusivelyby thecompetitorswhowillplaybeforethetimedesignatedbytheHOCforeachscheduled match. Athletes, coaches andsportassistants mayentertheWarmUpareaandproceedtotheirdesignatedwarmupcourt,withintheirscheduledtime.
8.2Athletesmaybeaccompaniedintothewarmupareabyamaximumnumberofpeopleasfollows:

8.3 If it is necessary, one translator and one physiotherapist/massage therapist per Countrymay enter thewarm-uparea.Theseindividualsmaynotassistwithcoaching.
9.CallRoom9.1AnofficialtimeclockwillbesituatedattheentranceoftheCallRoomandwillbeclearlyidentified.
9.2Prior toentering theCallRoom,eachathleteandsportassistantmust showtheircompetitornumbersand theiraccreditation tag.Coachesmust showtheiraccreditation.Competitornumberswillbeplacedonthechestorlegs(infront)andBC3sportassistants will have the competitor numbers on their back.FailuretocomplywiththisrequirementwillresultinrefusedentrytotheCallRoom.ShouldALLSportAssistantsberequiredtoweartheirnumber?
9.3RegistrationisdoneattheCallRoomdesk,whichisattheentrancetotheCallRoom.
9.4Inthesituationwherethematch,withitbeingaknockoutround,ifbothsidesforfeitthematch,theTechnicalDelegate and Head Refereewill decide the appropriateaction.ThisisactuallyaCompetitionStructureitem,whichneedstobeinthatdocument.For Individual matches, all athletes must be registered between thirty(30) andfifteen(15)minutesbeforethescheduledstarttimeofanyspecificmatch.For Team and Pairs matches, all athletes must be registered between forty-five (45) and twenty (20)minutesbeforethescheduledstarttimeofanyspecificmatch.
Each side (Individual, Team or Pair, includingCoachandanySA)must register together at the entrance tothe Call Room at the same time, including coach and Sport Assistants, and must bring all of their sportequipmentandballswiththem.
9.5All sides must remain in the Call Room and waiting in theirdesignated Court area immediatelyaftertheyhaveregistered. for their match. Ifanathleteneedstoplayback-to-backgames,thecoachorteammanagermayregistertheathlete,withtheTDpermission,forthefollowinggame.Thisincludesplayoffgames

when athlete’s progression to the next level does not leave enough time to comply with call room timeconstraints.
9.6Rule9.4willnotapplyiftheHostOrganizationcausesadelay.Ifforanyreasonmatchesaredelayed,theHOCwillnotifyallTeamManagersassoonaspossibleinwriting.
9.7AttheappointedtimethedoorsoftheCallRoomwillbeclosedandnootherpersonorsportequipmentmayenter.Ref9.4.(ExceptionsmaybeconsideredbytheHeadRefereeand/ortheTechnicalDelegate).
9.8TranslatorsmayonlyentertheCallRoomifaskedtodosobyaReferee.ThetranslatormustbepresentintheareaoutsidethedesignatedCallRoompriortothestartofanymatchinordertobeeligibletoenterthecallroom.
9.9Athletesmay be accompanied into the call roomby amaximumnumber ofpeopleasfollows:

Any equipment that fails arandomcheckcannotbeusedoncourt,unlessthatsidecanimmediatelymakearepairtomakeitlegal.9.14COINTOSS-The Referee tosses a coin and the winning side chooses whether to play red orblue.Asideispermittedtoexamineanopposingside’sBocciaballs,includingtheJack,beforeorafterthecointoss.

9.16If there isascheduledelay,whiletheCallRoomisinoperation,andsomeoneaskspermission togotothe toilet, the Head Referee or the TechnicalDelegate can agree to a request to use the toilet under thefollowingguidelines:

9.17EachsideshouldbringtotheCallRoomonlytheitemsnecessarytocompete
10RandomCheck10.1BallsthatfailthecriteriainRule4.7,willbeconfiscateduntiltheendofthecompetition. The refereewillrecord the rejected ball(s) on the score sheet. The athletes will be allowed to replace the ball/s withcompetitionball(s)atthistime.Afterthematch,thesecompetitionballsshallbereturnedtotheReferee.Ifanathlete brings too many balls into the Call Room, the extra balls will be confiscated until the end of thecompetition.
10.2Where one ormore balls fail a random check, the athletewillbe issued with a y e l l o w c a r d a n d a warning under rule 16.9.3. If one athlete has morethan one ball rejected at the same random check,theoffencewillincuronlyonewarning.
10.3If an athlete'sballsorequipment(ramp,gloves,splintsandotherdevices) fails the criteria on a secondoccasionontheCallroomorrandomcheck,thatathletewillbedisqualifiedunderrule16.10.2and16.10.4.
10.4When a ball(s) is rejected, that athlete can ask for the type of competition ball(s) they want (hard,medium or soft) if available. They will be given the appropriate balls but may not select the balls forthemselves.
10.5Athletes and Coaches may watch the random check. Ifanitem fails, the Referee must call the HeadReferee to repeat theevaluation.RandomchecksmayoccurintheCallRoomand/oronthecourtduringthematch.
10.6Team and Pairs must identify eachathletes’ equipmentandballsinthe Call Room, to sothatifanitemfailsarandomcheck,itcanbecorrectlyassociatedwithanathlete

11.7Throwingtheremainingballs11.7.1The side to throw nextwill be the side which does not have theclosestballtotheJack,unlesstheyhavethrownalltheirballs,inwhichcasetheothersidewillthrownext.Thisprocedurewillcontinueuntilbothsideshavethrownallballs.
11.7.2Ifanathletedecidesnottothrowanyremainingballs,theymayindicate to theReferee that theydo notwishtothrowanyfurtherballsduringthatend, andtheremainingballswillbedeclaredDeadBall(s).BallsNotThrownwillberecordedonthescoresheet.
11.8Completionofend11.8.1Afterallballs have been thrown, including any penalty ballsawarded to either side,theRefereewillverballyannouncethescoreandthen,“Endisfinished.”(ref.12)(BC3sportassistantsmayturntofacetheplayingareaatthistime)
11.8.2Inthefinalendofaknock-outmatch,ifalltheballshavenotbeenthrownandthewinnerisobvious,nopenaltywillbeincurrediftheSportAssistantorcoachescheer.
11.8.3SportAssistantsandcoachesmayentertheplayingareawhendirectedbytheReferee.
11.9PreparationforsubsequentendSportAssistants,coaches(forTeamandPairs)and/orofficialswillretrieveballsforthebeginningofthenextend. The Referee will allow a maximum of one minute between ends. 11.10Throwingballs11.10.1When the ball is released, the athlete must have at least onebuttockincontactwiththeseatofthewheelchair/scooter. Athletes who can only play while on their abdomen,must have their abdomen incontactwiththethrowingchair.TheseathletesmusthaveapprovalfromClassification.
11.10.2Ifaballis thrownand itbouncesoff the athletewho threw it, or offanopposing athleteorhis/herequipment, it is still considered to be in play. If a ball in play rolls on its own, without being touched byanything,itwillremainontheplayingareainthenewposition.
11.10.3A ball, after being thrown, kicked,orexiting thebottomofa ramp, may roll out the side of theathlete’sthrowingbox(eitherintheairoronthefloor),andthroughanopposingside’sthrowingbox, beforecrossing thethrowinglineandgoingintotheplayingarea.
11.11BallsoutofBounds11.11.1Anyball, including the Jack,will be consideredoutofbounds, if ittouches or crosses the exteriorboundary lines. If theball (Jackorcoloured) istouching the line and supportinganotherball, theballonthelinewillberemoveddirectlyoutwardsperpendiculartotheboundarylineinonemotionwhilekeepingtheballincontactwiththefloor.Iftheballthatwassupportedfallsandtouchestheline,thatballwillalsobeoutofbounds.Eachballwillbedealtwithaccordingto11.11.4or11.12.1.
11.11.2A ball that touches or crosses theexteriorboundary line and then re-enters theplayingarea isconsideredtobeoutofbounds.
11.11.3Aball,whichisthrownandfailstoenterthecourt,exceptinthecaseof11.16,willbeconsideredoutofcourt.
11.11.4Any coloured ball that is thrown or knocked out of courtbecomes a Dead Ball and is placed inthe appropriatearea. TheRefereeisthesolearbiterastowhetheraballisoutofcourt.
11.12JackknockedoutofBounds11.12.1 If the Jack is knocked out of the playing area, or into the non-valid area for the Jack during thematch, it is repositioned on the Cross.

11.12.2 If this is not possible because a ball is already covering thecross, the Jack will be placed asclose as possible in front of the crosswith the ball centered between the side lines (‘In front of thecross’refers to the area between the throwing line and the cross).
11.12.3WhentheJackhasbeenplacedonthecrossthesidetothrownextwillbedeterminedaccordingtorule11.7.1.
11.12.4 If there are no coloured balls on the playing area after the Jack hasbeen replaced, the side,which knocked the Jack out, will play.
11.13EquidistantballsWhendeterminingwhichsideistothrownext,iftwoormorescoringballsofdifferentcoloursareequidistantfrom the Jack (even if the score is more than 1-1 forone of the sides), it is the side that threwlast thatmust throw again. The side to throw will then alternate until either the equidistant relationship isdisturbed,oronesidehasthrownallofitsballs.Playwillthencontinueasnormal.Whenanewballmakinganewrelationshipdisturbstheequidistantrelationship,thatcolourmustplayagain.
11.14BallsthrowntogetherIf a sidethrowsmore than oneball when it is thatside's turn to throw, bothballswillberetractedandbecomeDeadballs.
11.15DroppedballIf an athlete accidentally drops theball, it is the athlete’s responsibility to askthe Referee for permissionto replay that ball. The Refereewill determine whether the ball was dropped as a result of involuntaryaction,orwhether by adeliberateattemptto throworpropel theball.There isno limit to thenumberoftimesaballmayberethrownandtheRefereeisthesolearbiter.Inthiscase,timewillnotbestopped.
11.16RefereeerrorsIfduetoanerrorofaRefereethewrongsidethrows, theball(s) isreturnedto the throwing athlete. In thiscase time must be checked and amended asappropriate. If any balls have been disturbed the end shouldbetreatedasadisruptedend.(ref16.3.4and13.)

11.17Substitution11.17.1In the BC3 and BC4 pairs division each side is allowed to make one athletesubstitutionduringamatch(ref.3.2/3.3).
11.17.2Inteamdivisioneachside isallowedtomakeuptotwoathletesubstitutionsduringamatch,iftheyhavetwosubstitutes.(ref.3.4).
11.17.3 A substitution may only take place between ends and the Referee must be informed of thesubstitutions.Ifthecaptainisbeingsubstitutedout,anotherteammatemustbecomecaptain.Thesubstitutemustoccupytheboxoftheplayerbeingremoved.
11.17.4 The substitutions must not delay the playing of the match. Once an athlete hasbeen removedfromthematchtheymaynotbesubstitutedbackin.
11.18PositioningofSubstitutes&CoachesCoaches and Substitutes are to be positioned at the end of the court in theappropriatelydefinedarea.Thedefinitionofthisareawillbedetermined by the HOC, and dependent upon the overallcourtlayout.
12.Scoring12.1ScoringwilltakeplacebytheRefereeafterbothsideshavethrownallballs,includingpenaltyballswhereappropriate.Penaltyballpoints,ifany,areaddedtothescorebeforebeingrecorded.
12.2The side with the ball closest to the Jack will score one point for each ballclosertotheJackthantheopponent’sclosestballtotheJack.
12.3 If two or more balls of different colours are equidistant from the Jack and nootherballsarecloser,theneachsidewillreceiveonepointperball.
12.4At the completion of each end the Refereemustbesure thatthescore is correctonthe scoresheetandthescoreboard.Athletes/Captainsareresponsibleforensuringthatthescoresare recordedaccurately.
12.5At the completion of the ends, the points scored on each end are addedtogetherandthesidewiththehighertotalscoreisdeclaredthewinner.
12.6The Referee may call Captains (or athletes, in individual divisions) forward ifmeasuringhas totakeplace,orthedecisioniscloseattheendofanend.

12.7 If the scores are equal after the regulationendshavebeenplayed, a tie-break end is played. Thepoints scored in atiebreak end will not count towards a side’s tally in that match; it will onlydeterminethewinner.
12.8Ifaside forfeitsamatch,thentheopposing side isawarded thematch by thehigherscoreo f 6 - 0 ; o r the greatestpointsdifferenceinanymatchinthat poollevelorknock out series.Thedisqualifiedsidewillscorezero.Ifbothsidesaredisqualified,theyboth forfeitthematchbythehigherscoreof 6 - 0 , orthegreatestpointsdifference of that poollevelorknock outseries.Thescorewillberecordedforeachsideas“forfeitby0-(?)”.
13.Disruptedend13.1AnendisdisruptedwhenballshavebeenmovedbycontactfromanathleteortheReferee,orbyaballthrownduringaviolationthattheRefereefailstostop.13.1.1If an end is disrupted due to a Referee's error or action, the Referee in consultationwith thelinesperson, will return the disturbed balls to their previous position (the Referee will always try torespect thepreviousscore,eveniftheballsarenotintheirexactpreviousposition).IftheRefereedoesnotknowthepreviousscore,intheopinionoftheRefereethisisnotpossiblethentheendwillmustberestarted.TheRefereewillbethefinalarbiter.13.2Ifanendisdisruptedduetoaside'serrororaction,theRefereewilltakeactionaccordingtoRule13.1.1,butmayconsultwiththedisadvantagedsideinordertoavoidmakinganyunfairdecisions.
13.3Ifadisruptedendiscausedandpenaltyballshavebeenawarded,thepenaltyball(s)willbeplayedat the completion of the replayed end. If the athlete or side that caused the disrupted end has beenawardedpenaltyball(s),theywillnotbeabletoplaythoseballs.
13.4 For BISFedWorld Championships and the Paralympic Games, the Organising Committee mustprovideanoverheadcameraso that it ispossible to replaceballs in theirexactpreviousposition,and so that theHeadRefereecanmakearapiddecisiononhowanendhasbeendisruptedandwhatactiontotake soasnottodelaytheprogressofthecompetition.

15.MovementonCourt15.1Once the Referee has indicated which side is to play, athletes from that sideare free toenter theplaying area and any empty throwing box. Athletes may not go into opponents’ throwing boxes whilepreparingtheirnextshotortoorienttheramp

16.4.5 A disqualified athlete may be reinstated for future matches within the same tournament at thediscretionoftheHeadReferee.
16.4.6Ifanathleteisdisqualifiedforunsportsmanlikebehaviour,apanelconsisting of the Head Referee andtwo international Referees notinvolvedinthematch,norfromthesamecountryastheathlete,willdecideiftheathletemaybereinstatedforfuturematches.(ref.16.4.7).
16.4.7In the case of repeateddisqualification the appointedHR/TDare obliged to consider and determineanappropriateaction.
16.5Thefollowingactionswill leadtotheawardofaOneBallPenalty(ref.16.2)
16.5.1anathleteleavesthethrowingboxwhentheirturnhasnotbeenindicated.

17.Communication17.1Therewillbenocommunicationbetweenathlete,sportassistant,coachandsubstitutesduringanend.
Theexceptionsare:
• when an athlete requests his/her sport assistant to carry out a specificaction such as alteringthe position of the chair, moving an assistivedevice, rollingthe ball or passing the ball to theathlete. Someroutine actions are allowedwithout a specific request to the sportassistant.
• Coaches,sportassistantsandsubstituteplayersmaycongratulateorofferencouragementtoplayersontheirsideaftertheshotandbetween ends.
• Communicationbetween coaches, substituteathletesand substitute sportassistantsbutinawaythattheathletesoncourtcannothearthem.If inthereferee’sopiniontheathletesoncourtcanhearthem,therefereewillconsiderinappropriatecommunicationandgiveonepenaltyball(ref.16.5.3).
17.2 In teamandpairs division, during the playing of an end athletesmaynot communicate with otherathletesontheirsideunlesstherefereehasindicatedthatitistheirturntothrow.
17.3An athlete may not instruct his/her partner’s sport assistant.Eachathletemustcommunicatedirectlywithhisorherownsportassistant.
17.4Between ends, athletes may communicate between themselves, their sportassistantandtheircoach.Thismustceaseoncetherefereeisreadytobegintheend.Therefereewillnotdelaythematchtoallowforlengthy discussion. A captain/athlete may not leave his/her box between ends, unless beingsubstituted,duringatimeoutorunderpermissionofthereferee(ref.11.17).

18.5Onetime-outpersideisallowedinteamorpairsdivisionmatches.Thiscanbecalledbyeitherthecoachorteamthecaptainbetweenends.Time-outwill last for two minutes. Athletes may leave their box for atime out, but must return to the same playing box. If both sides return to their boxes time-outwill beconsidered to be over. Athletes may not leave the court area during a time-out without the referee'spermission.Iftheyleavethecourtareaforanyreasontheywillbegivenawarning(Yellowcard)thatwillberecordedonthescoresheet.(Ref.17.5.6)
17.5Anathletemayaskanother athlete tomoveifhe/sheispositionedinsuchawayastobeimpingingupontheplayingofashot,butcannotaskthemtogooutoftheirbox.
17.6Anyathlete,notonlythecaptain,mayspeaktotherefereeinhisorherowntime.
17.7After the referee determines which side will throw, athletes may ask for thescoreor forameasure.Requestsaboutballpositioning(i.e.whichopponent’sball is closer?) will not be answered. The athletesmay come ontotheplayingarea toascertainforthemselveshowtheballsarepositioned.
17.8 If translation is required on the court during a match, the HR will have full authority to select anappropriate translator. TheHRwill first attempt to use either a competition sport volunteer or anotherrefereewho is not currently involved in another match. If no suitable translator is available, the HRmay choose to select an individual who is amemberoftheathlete’scountry
17.9Translatorswillnotbe seatedon theFOP.Nomatchwillbedelayed ifatranslatorisnotpresentwhenneeded.
17.10Anycommunicationdevice(includingasmartphonetakenintothecallroomorontotheFOPmustbeapprovedbytheHRorTD.Anymisusewouldbeinappropriatecommunicationandwarrantaoneballpenalty.
Coachesarepermittedtousetabletsandsmartphonestotakenotes.AthletesandSportAssistantsoncourtmustnotreceiveanycommunicationfromcoachesorsubstitutesoutsidetheboundarylines.Anyinfringementofthisrulewouldconstituteinappropriatecommunicationandwarrantaoneballpenalty.
18.Timeperend
18.1Eachsidewillhaveatimelimitfortheplayingofeachendandismonitoredbyatimekeeper.Thetimesare:

18.2PropellingThrowingtheJackiscountedaspartofaside'stimeallocation.
18.3A side's time shall startwhen the referee indicates to the timekeeperwhichsideshouldplay,includingtheJack.
18.4A side's time will stop the moment each ball thrown becomes stationarywithin,or crosses thecourtboundaries.
18.5If a side has not released the ball when the time limit is reached, that ballandother remaining ballsof that side become invalid and shall be placed in the dead ball designated area. In the case of BC3athletes the ball is deemed tohavehasbeenreleasedonceitstartstorolldowntheramp.
18.6Ifa side releasesaball after the time limit is reached then the refereewillstoptheballandremove itfromthecourtbefore itdisturbsplay. If theballdisturbsanyotherballstheendwillbedisrupted.
18.7Thetimelimitforpenaltyballs isoneminuteforeachviolation(1ball)foralldivisionsofplay.
18.8 During each end the remaining time for both sides will be displayed on the scoreboard. At thecompletionofeachend the remaining timeofbothsideswillbenotedonthescoresheet.
18.9During the playing of an end, if the time is incorrectly calculated, the refereewilladjust the timingtocompensatefortheerror
18.10Duringmattersofdisputeorconfusion,therefereemuststopthetimeclock. If it is necessary to stopduring an end for translation, the timemustbe stopped. Whenever possible, the translator should not befrom the sameteamastheathlete.
18.11Thetimekeepershallannounce,loudandclear,whentheremainingtimeis“1minute”,“30seconds”,“10seconds”;and“time”,whenthetimeisexpired.
19.ClarificationandProtestProcedure19.1Duringamatchasidemayfeelthattherefereehasoverlookedaneventormadeanincorrectdecision,which affects the result of the match. At that time, the athlete/captain of that side may draw thereferee's attention to thissituationandseekclarification.Thetimemustbestopped(ref.18.10).
19.2During the match an athlete/captain may request a ruling from the HR,whosedecisionisfinal.

19.2.1According with the rules 19.1 and 19.2, during a match theathletesmustmaydrawtheReferee’s attention toa situation that theydon'tagree with and seek clarification. Theymust alsorequestarulingfromtheHRiftheywanttoproceedtopoint20.3.
19.3At the end of each match competing sides will be asked to sign the scoresheet. Should a side wishto protest a decision or action, or feels that the referee has not acted in accordance with the rulesduring that match thescoresheetmustnotbesigned.
19.4Thecourtofficialrefereewillnotethetimeofmatchcompletion(afterregisteringtheresultonthescoresheet). Formal protestsmust be done submittedwithin a 30-minuteperiod from the conclusion of thatmatch. If no written protest is receivedthentheresultstands.
19.5A completed protest form must be handed to the competition secretariat by the athlete, captain orteam manager, accompanied by £ 150 or theequivalentcorrespondingHostNationcurrency.Thisprotestform should detail both thecircumstances and the justification, quoting rule references, for making theprotest.TheHR,ortheirdesignate,willconveneaprotestpanelasquicklyaspossible.Thispanelshallconsistof:
• theHRorAHR• two international referees not involved in the match, and not from thecountriesinvolvedin
theprotest
20.5.1Once the protest panel is formed, they should consult with therefereeinvolvedwiththematchthat is being protested, beforemaking a final decision. The protest panel should meet in a privatearea. Alldiscussionregardingaprotestmustremainconfidential.
20.5.2 The decision of the protest panel will be made as soon as possible and presented inwriting to the athleteorcaptain,orteammanager, and totheothersideinvolved.
19.6Shoulditbenecessarytoappeal thedecisionoftheprotestpanel, thiswillbedone after receipt of afurther completed protest form. If applicable, bothparties involved shall be heard. Upon receipt of thisprotest, the TD,ortheirdesignate,willassoonaspossibleconveneajuryofappealconsistingof:
• theappointedtechnicaldelegate• twointernationalrefereesnotinvolvedinthepreviousprotestorfromthecountriesinvolvedinthe
protest
19.6.1Thedecisionofthejuryofappealshallbefinal.
19.7 Either party involved in the match being protested, may ask for a review of the protest panel'sdecision.Theymustsubmitaprotestformaccompaniedby£ 150.Protestsmustbesubmittedwithinthirty(30)minutesofreceivingtheprotest panel's original decision. The protest panel, or their designate, willrecord

19.8If a protest decision requires that a match be replayed, it will be replayedfromthebeginningoftheendwherethesituationthatmotivatedtheprotestoccurred.
19.9Ifareasonforaprotestisknownbeforeamatchstartstheprotestshouldmustbedeclaredbeforethestartofthematchandbesubmittedwithina30-minuteperiod from the conclusion of that match.
19.10Ifareasonforaprotesthappensinthecallroom,theHRorTDshouldmustbenotifiedoftheintentiontosubmit the protest before the side leaves the call room. The protest will only be considered if the aboveprocedureshavebeenfollowed.
20.TheCaptain'sResponsibility20.1Inteamandpairsdivision,eachsideisledbyacaptainforeachmatch.A“C”,clearlyvisibletothereferee,mustidentifythecaptaintothereferee. Each captain, clubor countryis responsible to provide the “C”. Thecaptain will act as the executive of the team and assume the followingresponsibilities:
20.1.1Representing the team/pair at the coin toss and decidingwhethertoplayredorblueballs.
20.1.2Deciding which team member should throw during the match,including any penalty balls.
20.1.3Tocallatechnicalormedicaltimeoutorasubstitution.Thecoachmayalsocallatechnicalormedicaltimeoutorasubstitution.
20.1.4Acknowledgingthereferee'sdecisionintheprocessofscoring.
20.1.5Consultingwiththerefereeinthesituationofadisruptedendorwherethereisadispute.
20.1.6Signing the score sheetornominates someone to signon theirbehalf.Thepersonsigningwillsignhisorherownname.

21.MedicalTimeOut21.1 If an athlete becomes ill during a match (it must be a serious situation) any athletemay ask for amedicaltimeoutifnecessary. Amatchmaybeinterrupted for a medical time out for ten (10) minutesduring which therefereemuststopthetimingofthematch.
21.2Anathletemayonlyrequestreceiveone(1)medicaltimeoutpermatch.
21.3Anyathletewhoasksforreceivesamedical timeoutmustbeseenoncourtassoonaspossiblebythemedicaldoctorassignedtothevenue.
21.4 In individual play, if an athlete is unable to continue, the match will be forfeited(ref.16.4.3/12.8).
21.5 In team play if an athlete is unable to continue, due to illness, the presentend must be finishedwithout that athlete’s remaining ball(s). A substitutemayonly come into thematchbetweenends (ref.11.17.3and16.4.4).
21.6InBC3andBC4 pairs competition, if an athlete isunable tocontinue, due toillness, the present endmust be finished without that athlete’s remainingball(s).Iftheirteammatestillhasballstoplay,heorshemayplaytheballswithintheirallottedtime.InBC3pairs,ifit istheCPathletethatisunabletocontinueandthereisnotaCPsubstituteathleteforthenextend,thematchcannotproceed.Asubstitutionmayonlytakeplacebetweentheends(ref.11.17).IfthereisnoCPsubstitutethematchwillbeforfeited(ref.12.8),unlesstheathleteisunabletocontinueonlyduringthelastend.Inthiscase,thatsidedoesnotforfeitthematch.Ifthissituationoccursduringthelastendandatiebreakisrequired,thesidewillforfeitthematchifthereisnoCPsubstitute.
21.7 If the medical time out is called for a sport assistant, the athletes in pairsmay share one sportassistant for the remainder of the end. A substitutionmayonlytakeplacebetween theends. If there isnota substitute on courttheFOP,the athletes need to share the one sport assistant for the remainder of thatmatch.Inindividualplay,iftheathletehasanyballsremaininginthecurrentend,andcannotpropelthrowthemunassisted,suchballswillbedeclared,dead.
21.8 In BC3 competition, during the ten-minute,medical timeout,sport assistants maynot look into thecourt playing area. The athlete must be attended to by a medical person who may be assisted withcommunicationbythatathlete’ssportassistant,ifnecessary.
21.9In team competition if an athlete was the next to throw the Jack and wasdisqualified or became illand is now unable to continue, and there are nosubstitutes, the Jack will be thrown by the person whois due to throw theJackonthefollowingend.

21.11 If an athlete continues to ask formedical time outs in subsequentmatches, the TD in consultationwith a medical doctor and a representative of thatathlete’scountrywilldetermineifthatathleteshouldbe removed from the remainder of the competition. In individual play if an athlete is removed from theremainder of the competition all subsequent matches that they wouldhave played will have a scorecorresponding to the scoreof thematchwiththehighestpointdifferenceofthatpoolorknockoutseries.

• Ifonesidewantstopresentaprotestoutsidethetimelimit(30minutes),thesecretariatshouldinformthemthatthetimelimithasexpired.Ifasideinsiststhattheprotestbeaccepted,thesecretariatwillnotacceptit;
• Photographs and/or video recordings will not be accepted to support theprotestpresented;• Replaythematch,becauseofaprotest:TheReferee flipsacoinandthewinning side chooses
whether to play red or blue. If a side had beenawardedpenaltyballs,theywillnotbeabletoplaythoseballs.
• Replay fromthebeginningof theendwhere the situation thatmotivatedtheprotestoccurred,becauseofaprotestdecision:TheathletesremaininthesameBoxesandwillusethesamecolouredballs.Violationsthatwereawarded in an end that is being replayed because of the decisionoftheProtestCommitteearenolongervalid,unlessitwasawrittenwarningoradisqualification.
