  • President’s Report

It is with great pleasure and pride that I pen my second President’s Report for the Allambie

Jets Rugby Club 2014 Annual Report.

On the back of our inaugural season back in junior rugby in 2013, Allambie Rugby Club has

continued to grow and has had a second and even more successful season in 2014. This

season saw us field 32 players in 3 teams across the U6 (1) and U7 (2) age groups. It was

great to see the majority of our foundation players return as well as welcoming a number of

new families. We maintained our focus on attracting new players to the game which was

demonstrated by all new registrations in 2014 being brand new to junior rugby.

Pre season training commenced in early March, before much anticipated trial games in late

March (thanks as always to the Dee Why Lions for their kind invitation to participate). These

trials were a great way to expose new players to junior rugby whilst letting our existing

players start to remember skills learned in 2013. Finally the season kicked off in early April

and we were off to season 2014. With 2 breaks for school holidays, players then enjoyed 18

rounds of great rugby with only a very small number of games washed out.

As the season progressed, many new families were surprised to learn that it wasn’t all just

about playing rugby on a Saturday morning. Our players and their families had many other

great experiences throughout the year including:

    • Participating in the Macquarie Sports Junior Rugby Clinic

    • Manly Marlins players attending training to teach skills to our players

    • Countless Saturday Afternoons at Manly Oval watching the Manly Marlins

    • Our U7 team playing on Manly Oval as part of the Manly Junior Rugby Day

    • The mother’s social club which evolved on the sidelines at training on a Friday afternoon.

These experiences strengthened our players and families passion for rugby and created

memories some of them are still talking about.

Home rounds were another exciting aspect of our season. All 3 home rounds were a huge

success thanks to all the parents and other helpers who got up before the sun to set up,

spent hours on the BBQ feeding the big crowds and those who packed it all away at the end

    of the morning.

As the season drew to a close, it was a pleasure to have watched our players develop, both

in terms of their skills, but also seeing a clear increase in their level of enjoyment. It is

becoming increasingly evident that we are continuing to develop some fantastic rugby

players who genuinely love playing the game. It was also great to see many of the skills they

had learned develop more and more as games got faster, tags and tackles became more

effective and tries became more frequent. When the season finally ended in late August

there were mixed emotions as we were disappointed it was over, but at the same time we

were all extremely proud of what we as a club had achieved. We celebrated the end of our

first season with a BBQ and presentation, where all players were presented with a

personally engraved trophy to remember their season by.

  • None of this is ever possible without the support of our amazing sponsors, who generously

supported the club financially & in kind during 2014:

o Darren and Kerry Jones and the Allambie Heights Shopping Centre o Richard Jobson (of Belle Property Seaforth) o Bray’s IGA Allambie Hts o Manly Corporate Cars o Designed Gifts o Allambie Sports Physiotherapy o Oaklands Design

We would also like to acknowledge the fantastic support of the Manly Marlins Rugby Club,

who have provided game day tickets for our coaches and managers and sent players to

training to engage with our young players.

Thank you once again to everyone involved with Allambie Rugby during 2014 both on and

off the field and I very much look forward to the 2015 season which I’m sure will be here

    before we know it.

    GO THE JETS!

  • Coach’s Reports:

    U6 Season Report

What a great season. We all learnt many new skills (coach included) and had a lot of fun along the

way. New friendships were made and old friendships solidified. Following is a fun review of how I

saw the season pan out for each of our young stars.

Angus – The Leader. Always willing to learn and take the next step. Fine passing and catching skills,

and a huge improvement in his running game late in the season. Never far from his buddy Daniel.

Ben D – The Lion. Bravely runs the ball strong and fast. Blistering speed when he gets going after a

    bit of encouragement.

Ben T – The Enigma. You never knew what you would get. Became a solid defender late in the

season, once he decided tagging was more fun than chasing mud puddles. Developing his sidestep in

attack and loves a good long run with the ball.

Daniel – The Sidesteper. Developed a mean sidestep partway through the season only matched in

intensity by his strong will. His sidestep regularly left defenders clutching at thin air while his strong

will regularly left his coach clutching at his thinning hair. An anchor in defence, often choosing to

hang back and clean up any breaks

Elliot – The Tiger Shark. Light on his feet and always enjoys a run with the ball, slicing through the

defence like a shark through a school of sardines. Chooses his own pathway to the tryline.

Jaden – The Springbok. Tough and fast. One of the early takers to the game and a consistent

performer all season. Rumoured to now be semi-professional, with an average match payment of 3

Red Frogs or even the occasional Matchbox car.

Josh – The Boss. Always keen and the first to be involved in both defence and attack. Strong

attacking skills matched by his consistent defence late in the season. Always keen to share his ideas

on the game with the coach, referee, his team mates and even the opposition…

Louie – The Bull Shark. The youngest of the team yet full of confidence and spirit. Approaches the

    game with bursts of enthusiasm.

Mason – The Flash. No one can get to the corner post faster than Mason, regularly scoring several

tries per match. Developed the ability to search out the goal posts late in the season scoring a

number of tries underneath. Tenacious in defence

Ollie – The Enforcer. Came in late in the season and showed amazing promise right from the start.

Very quick to learn the game. Strong runner of the ball. Never takes a backward step

Oscar – The Smiling Assassin. Always keen to give it a go, then let you know how well he did. Came

up with some huge runs with the ball late in the season. Definite winner of the “most unique 5-five

    technique” award.

  • Salah – The Consistent Performer. Tries his hardest every week, always with a smile on his face.

Keen to learn about the game.

Zac – The Cheetah. Super-fast and slippery in attack, very difficult to catch. Reads the game well and

regularly cleans up breaks in defence. The quiet achiever of the team

Tim – Team Manager. Keeps the team organised and allows the coach to concentrate on increasing

the attention rate of the kids. Regular referee keeping the game flowing and using just the right

amount of leniency when required. Thanks for your help Tim

Richard – Assistant coach 1. Helped out from the start and even offered to help once his son Ben

decided to sit the rest of the season out. Invaluable help at training, especially during those difficult

    early season sessions. Thanks Richard

Dave – Assistant coach 2. Came in late in the season with his son Ollie and quickly stuck his hand up

to help. Regularly receives the thankless task of controlling the substitutions on game day as well as

helping out at Friday night training sessions. Thanks Dave

And that brings the season to a close. A huge thanks to all the mums and dads for encouraging your

boys to play and bringing them to training and game day each week. I really enjoyed getting to know

each and every one of them and I am proud of the progress all of them have achieved. I hope that

they will all come back again next year. One last “stacks on coach” and a great season comes to a

    close.

    U7 White Season Report

Well what a season as we saw the boys take a big step on their way to becoming future Wallabies!

The season started off with most of the boys transitioning from U6's to U7's, although there were a

few new faces to the team. The boys started to gel really quickly and as the season progressed the

    bond between them grew.

This was evident in the 'high tempo' off loading game the boys played, with each of them supporting

the others, allowing quick passes and lots of running rugby. At this point I must thank the army of

faithful fans that turned out every week to support the boys. The encouragement from the sidelines

    made a huge difference.

The season progressed from tag to tackle, which added a very different dynamic to the game, but all

the boys have stepped forward and embraced the challenges.

    So onto the boys,

Harry - takes running hard and straight to a new level. He would knock down walls to get to the try

line but in the meantime is knocking down the opponents with his strong runs.

Alfie - always looking for the outside break, scored lots of tries and seems to have mastered the fend

    at an early age.

  • Charlie - has been waiting for the tackling to begin all season and already in the 3 games at the end

of the season has shown he'll be first in and last out of any ruck and maul.

Connor - is one of the two speedsters on the team. He will pop up at the right time and can often be

seen racing towards the opponents try line.

Joel - has on many occasions run rings around the opponents, and sometimes his own team. Just as

they were getting dizzy his compass kicked in and off towards the try line he went.

Fletcher - has made some try saving tags throughout the season and just when I thought the other

team were going to score, Fletcher was there to stop them.

Luca - like Alfie was always looking for the run down the sideline, his long blond hair flowing behind

him as he scored lots of tries in the corner.

Andrew - like Connor, was often to be found leaving the opponents behind him as he sped the

length of the field, scoring many tries from well inside his own half.

Each of them, whilst having their own skills, have really shown that it's teamwork that counts. They

have formed a great bond and I am immensely proud of what they have achieved.

Have a good summer and hopefully see you all next autumn wearing the green and white for the

    Allambie Jets U8's.

  • U7 Green Season Report

The U7 Green team enjoyed a wonderful season of running rugby. The boys are learning to run and

pass, support each other and score plenty of tries. During final 4 games of the season the boys

played tackle and competed for the ball. We proved to be competitive with all sides and with

continued support and coaching we have much potential as a team.

Special thanks to Robin Lowe for his managerial skills throughout the season and to all the parents

for your support at training, during the games and encouragement on the sidelines. Hope to see you

    all back next season.
