Surveys

An evergreen, beautiful dioecious fruit tree Antidesma bunius is in

bearing at HRS, Anantharjupeta. In this each bunch of fruits ripens

unevenly, so the fruits in a bunch are all in different colors. The

fruits are most often used for making wine and tea and also used

to make jams and jellies.

Sri. Y. Chandrasekhar, Research Associate, HRS, Anantharajupeta observed

and reported the leaf curl, collar rot and nematode infestation of papaya at

HRS, Anantharjupeta. Nematode infestation was detected in the lab from the

infected roots of papaya.

Dr. A.Snehalatha.Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur

conducted survey for nematode infestation at kalavalapalli

village of West Godavari district on 23.06.2017. Nematode

infestation was observed in banana, guava, papaya and

bottle gourd crops at Kalavalapalli village.

Dr. B.V.K. Bhagawan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Dr. K. Mamatha,

Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur visited tissue culture banana field with

variety Dwarf Cavendish in Adamilli village, Kamavarapukota mandal of

West Godavari district on 30.06.2017 and identified somaclonal varia-

tions and rotting of male bud followed by bunch.

In the experiment on evaluation of botanical cake and paste against

rhinoceros beetle, the lowest damage of 3.39 per cent was recorded in

botanical paste and cake followed by chlorantraniliprole (5.13 percent/

palm), neem cake + sand (5.32 per cent/palm) and naphthalene balls

(5.87 per cent). Highest leaf damage of 7.99 percent was recorded in

control. Similar trend was followed in 2nd quarter i.e., six months after

treatment, where the incidence of leaf damage (2.68 %) was less in botanical cake and paste

followed by chlorantraniliprole (4.28 %) which differed significantly with each other.

New Variety

New Tamarind clones identified by the Scientists of Horticultural Research Station, Anantapuramu

(1) Thettu Tamarind: Regular bearing with high yield potential. Pods are

big, broad, oblong, compressed, slightly curved with rounded end. Pulp is

pulp recovery (56.97%).

(2) Red Tamarind: High yielding regular bearer. Pods are round, oblong,

slightly curved with rounded ends. Pulp is firm, soft and blood red in

colour (unripe) and turns to reddish brown (ripe) and pulp recovery is

high(43.3%).
