Events Two Day State Level Seminar
State Level Seminar on “Awareness, Motivation & Technol-
ogy Transfer for Development of Beekeeping in Andhra
Pradesh” was organized for two days from 27th to 28th Octo-
ber, 2018 at KVK, Venkataramannagudem as a part of the
project “Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre, An-
dhra Pradesh” sponsored by the National Bee Board under
MIDH to Dr.YSRHU. Padmasree Dr. Bibek Debroy, Chairman,
Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister (EAC-PM) & Beekeeping Development Committee
(BDC), New Delhi participated as chief guest. Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor & Ex-
officio Secretary to Govt. of A.P, Sri. K. Rajeswar Rao, Advisor to EAC-PM & Member Secretary, BDC
and Dr. L. Saraswath, Executive Director, National Bee Board, New Delhi were the guests of honor
who graced the occasion. The two days sessions included all the scientific aspects of apiculture in
Andhra Pradesh. About 300 farmers from all the districts of Andhra Pradesh, scientists and students
have participated in the deliberations. Exhibition of equipment, materials and products of beekeep-
ing was arranged by KVK, HRS and ELP students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem. A souvenir and a
booklet on apiculture were released by the dignitaries.

Periyavaram, Sri.E.Anand, Horticultural Officer, Venkatagiri and Mr.D.Vinod Naik, Research Associ-
ate (Agri. Extn.), KVK, Periyavaram addressed the Rythu Sadassu programme of RHWEP students.
Farmers from different villages like Vallivedu, Venkatagiri, Periyavaram and Busapalem had
attended this programme and RHWEP students arranged exhibition on different Horticultural crop
production practices on 30.10.2018 at Vallivedu (V), Venkatagiri (M), SPSR Nellore (Dist).
RHWEP students allotted to HRS, Kovvur organized Rythu
Sadassu on 31.10.2018. Host farmers and other farmers have
attended the meeting and interacted with the scientists.

M.Paratpara Rao, Associate Dean’s Representative for RHWEP
have attended the programme organized by the students.
RHWEP students allotted to HRS, Anantharjupeta organized an
exhibition cum farmers scientist interaction at Bayanapalli village,
Kodur mandal of YSR district on 31.10.2018. Dr. M. Lakshminara-
yana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture attended as a chief guest and Dr.
R. Nagaraju, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Dr. M. Rama
Krishna, Associate Dean , COH, Anantharajupeta, T. Naga Lakshmi
(Scientist-in charge, RHWEP) and Dr.B. Thanuja Priya, Asst. Profes-
sor (Hort.), Principal Representative, and Sri D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.) attended as resource
persons. RHWEP students have actively involved and displayed visual aids of latest technologies
and explained about their own success story of mushroom unit, vermi composting, postharvest
products viz., banana pseudo stem pickle and moringa leaf powder etc in their respective villages’ .
Dr. M. Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr. M.
Rama Krishna, Associate Dean, CoH, Anantharajupeta partici-
pated in exhibition cum Rythu Sadassu to the farmers at
Bukkapuram, Mahanandi on 29.10.2018 organised by the final
year B. Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students of CoH, Anantharaju-
peta along with HRS, Mahanandi under the programme of
RHWEP. Students shared their experiences, practical
knowledge gained during the RHWEP programme. Interacted with the farmers about important
production aspects in horticultural crops. Dr. M. Raja Naik, Associate Professor (Hort.), Associate
Dean’s representative, Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path) & Head, Dr. M. Tagore
Naik, HRS, Mahanandi, HO and AO, Mahanandi have also participated in the event.

RHWEP Activities
On 22.10.2018, RHWEP students of CoH, V.R.Gudem allotted to HRS,
Kovvur visited KVK, Pandirimamidi as a part of their exposure visit.
Scientists of KVK explained the KVK activities along with cashew
nursery techniques and KVK demo units. RHWEP students incharge
Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, HRS, Kovvur also participated the
programme.
RHWEP students allotted to HRS, Ambajipeta gave method
demonstration on banana sucker treatment to the farmers of
Mukkamala village on 23.10.2018 and visited the orchid nursery
at Allavaram on 26.10.2018 and interacted with the staff at
nursery.
CoH, Anantharajupeta conducted industrial visit to Espee Distillery
unit at Renigunta to observe the modern bottle filling and
automatic labelling machines and also visited Varsha Fruit
Processing Industry and observed different steps involved in fruit
pulp preparation and canning for export purpose for B.Sc (Hort)
final year, RHWEP students on 25.10.2018. Dr. R. Nagaraju,
Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharajupeta, T. Naga
Lakshmi (Scientist-in charge, RHWEP) and Dr.B. Thanuja Priya, Asst. Professor (Hort.), CoH, (AD
Representative) have coordinated the programme.
Essay Writing Competitions
Andhra Bank, Venkataramannagudem has conducted essay
writing competitions to the students of CoH, Venkataramanna-
gudem on “Eradicate corruption and build a new India” on
29.10.2018 as part of Vigilance Awareness Week. B.Sc. (Hons.)
Horticulture students viz., Ms. S. Anusha, II year, Y. Annie Susan,
III year and Y. Keerthi, I year have won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in
the competition respectively. Prizes were distributed to the
winners by the Bank Manager, Andhra Bank, Venkataramannagudem on 30.10.2018 and pledge
was taken by the students for corruption free India.
Fresher’s Day
Fresher’s day was celebrated at CoH, Anantharajupeta on
31.10.2018. Programme was presided over by Dr. M. Lakshmi-
narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr. M. Ramakrishna,
Associate Dean, Ananthrajupeta. Dr. N.V. Sivarama Prasad, Zonal
Manager/Asst. Conservator of Forests, A.P Urban Greening and
Beautification Corporation, Tirupati, Dr. R. Nagaraju, Principal
Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharajupeta attended the
function as a special invitees. Dr. V.N.P. Sivaramakrishna, office i/c students activities, staff and
students have participated in the function followed by cultural programmes.

Extension Mahila Kisan Dewas
On 16.10.2018, Dr.S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) and
Miss.N.Srividya Rani, Scientist (Agri. Extn.), KVK, Pandirima-
midi attended Mahila Kisan Diwas programme organized by
Tanager company under ASI-NGO. Smt. Vanthala Rajeswari,
MLA, Rampachodavaram attended the programme as chief
guest and addressed the gathering on importance of strength
of women to the present society. Dr.S.Adarsha addressed the
gathering about how to improve their status and generate livelihood income through value addition
of cashew and millets etc. ZPTC, MPTC members and innovative women farmers were felicitated on
this occasion.
Training Programmes
Dr. L.Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.) and D.Vinod Naik,
Research associate (Agri. Extn.), KVK, Periyavaram attended a
training programme as resource persons on “Integrated pest
and disease management in Acid lime” organized by Farmers
training centre and Department of Agriculture, Nellore dist on
25.10.2018 at Pallakonda village of Kaluvayi mandal. The farm-
ers were briefed about the production & Protection technologies
along with establishment of FPO’s. The meeting was attended preceded by ADA and AO (FTC) along
with participation of 30 farmers.
Sri D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.) and T. Naga Lakshmi,
Scientist (Pl. Path.) HRS, Anantharajupeta attended farmers
training programmes as resource persons organized by Dept.
of Horticulture and explained about papaya nutrient
management and integrated management of papaya viral
diseases at VV Kandriga and B. Kammapalli villages of Kodur
division of Kadapa district on 24th and 30th October 2018.
National Unity Day
On 31.10.2018, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was celebrated at constituent colleges of
Dr.YSRHU in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Iron Man of India Sri Sardar Vallabhbhai
Patel.

On 25.10.2018, KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted an off-
campus training program in Santragunta village of Dwaraka
Tirumala mandal on “improved management practices in
greengram as a part of CFLD-Pulses (rabi) for the year 2018-19
and demonstrated seed treatment with carbendazim @ 2.5gm/kg
and imadachlopride @ 5ml/kg. Dr. V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agri. Extn.)
and Miss. B. Rupadevi, Research Associate (Soil science) coordi-
nated the programme.
Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem attended a training program on ‘Guava and water melon
cultivation’ at Kadiyadda village on 30.10.2018 organized by M/s.
Coramandal Fertilizers Ltd. in collaboration with KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem. About 50 Farmers have participated.
On 29.10.2018, G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK,
Vonipenta attended a training programme as technical resource
person on “Livelihood entrepreneur development programme
(LEDP) for SHGs” organized by DPCC NGO at G.V. Satram and ex-
plained about the pest management practices, kitchen gardening,
marketing, opportunities to woman in agriculture. Sri Sriniva-
saRao, AGM, NABARD, Kadapa also participated.
Diagnostic Visits
On 23.10.2018, Dr.S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) and Miss N.Srividya
Rani, Scientist (Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited maize field (15 -
20 DAS) at Devaram and Indukurupeta villages of Devipatnam
mandal. Diagnosed 82 per cent incidence of Spodoptera frugiperda
and suggested the farmers to go for spraying of dimethoate @ 1 ml/l
or emamectin benzoate @ 0.4 g/l for the control.
On 23.10.2018, Dr.S.Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) and Miss N.Srividya
Rani, Scientist (Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited brinjal field
and observed sporadic incidence of mealy bug infestation at fruit-
ing stage. Suggested to spray profenophos @ 2 ml/l. Visited new
Oil palm orchard and suggested farmer to go for intercropping to
additional income for the first 3 years and to go for recommended
dose of fertilizer application in oil palm.
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Associate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta
visited the field at Vanarachapalli village, T.Sundupalli Mandal, YSR
districtt on 28.10.2018 and suggested the farmer about soil, water
sample collection, soil management practices, recommended to go
for date palm, pomegranate, jamun, guava and ber cultivation after
complete management of the soil with advanced production technol-
ogy.

On 26.10.2018, Dr. A. Srinivas, Principal Scientist & Head and P. Raja
Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited chilli field at
Bandapalli village of Rampachodavaram mandal and observed aphid
infestation and poor crop growth. Suggested to spray acephate @ 1.5
g/l or neem oil @ 5 ml/l at 15 days interval and also recommended
correct dose of fertilizers to be applied in chilli crop.
On 24.10.2018, Sri K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK,
Pandirimamidi visited marigold field at Gangavaram village of Gan-
gavaram mandal. The crop is at vegetative stage, infected with fusa-
rium wilt and suggested the farmer to remove and destroy the se-
verely infected plants and go for both foliar spraying and drenching
with saaf @ 2ml/l twice with an interval of 10-15 days to control
the disease.
On 26.10.2018, Sri K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK,
Pandirimamidi visited cashew orchard at Maddhirathigudem vil-
lage of Devipatnam mandal. The orchards are at new flush initia-
tion stage, recommended for foliar application of 19:19:19 and
micronutrients. Also observed Tea mosquito bug infestation and
suggested to go for recommended spray schedule of Dr.YSRHU to
minimize the infestation.
On 22.10.2018, G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK,
Vonipenta has visited tomato fields for diagnosis of pests and
diseases at T.Kothapalli village of Mydukur mandal. Observed
tomato spotted wilt virus infestation and suggested the removal
and distruction of infested plants followed by spraying of dimetho-
[email protected]% or [email protected]% to control virus transmitting
insects.
On 24.10.2018, G. SandeepNaik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK, Vonipenta
visited CFLD pulses blackgram fields under NFSM - 2018, during the
visit scientist observed incidence of leaf webber and suggested foliar
application of chloropyriphos@ 0.25% or acephate @ 0.15%.
On 24.10.2018, and 25.10.2018, G. SandeepNaik, Scientist (Pl. Path),
KVK, Vonipenta visited maize fields for diagnosis of pests and diseases
at Madirepalli and Tangutur villages and observed fall army worm
(spodopterafrugiperda) infestation. Suggested spraying of thiodicarb@
0.1% or emamectin benzoate @0.04% in leaf whorls.
On 25.10.2018, G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK, Vonipenta
visited CFLD pulses redgram fields under NFSM - 2018. Suggested the
spraying of neem oil@ 0.5% to destroy egg stage of maruka pod borer.

On 25.10.2018, G. SandeepNaik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK, Vonipenta
visited cotton fields for diagnosis of pests and diseases at Tangutur
village of Rajupalem mandal and observed the incidence of sucking
pest complex and recommended spraying of imidacloprid@ 0.03%
or acephate@ 0.1% or [email protected]%.
On 26.10.2018, G. SandeepNaik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK, Vonipenta visited guava
orchards at Vedurur village of Chapadu mandal and observed the incidence of mealy
bug and recommended the spraying of acephate @0.1% or dichlorvos @ 0.1% or
On 30.10.2018, G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta
visited banana fields for diagnosis of pests and diseases at Adireddy-
palli village of Mydukur mandal and observed fruit fly infestation.
Suggested the removal and destruction of infested fruits followed by
spraying of malathion @ 0.2% or erection of fruit fly traps.

rajupeta along with local Horticulture Officer and MPEO’s
inspected papaya garden on 30.10.2018 at S.R.Puram, Akepadu
revenue village of Kadapa District to know the exact reasons for
crop failure.

raju, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head and Smt. T. Nagalakshmi,
Scientist (Pl. Path), HRS, Anantharajupeta along with Dr. M. Rama-
krishna, Associate Dean and Dr. B. Tanuja Priya, CoH, Anantharaju-
peta, visited papaya fields protected by low cost solar fencing and
organic papaya field at Nagavaram village of Chitvel mandal,
Kadapa district on 31.10.2018.
Dr. C. Madhumathi, Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta visited the
farm at KC Agraharm on 27.10.2018, practicing Korean and indigenous
organic farming systems in raising organic banana along with M.Sc
(Hort.), Fruit science students.
Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fisheries), KVK,
Venkataramannagudem brought the Amur Carp fish seed from
Fisheries Research Information Center (Inland), KVAFSU,
Hessaraghatta, Karnataka and Jayanti rohu fish fingerlings from
CIFA, Bubhaneswar for conducting the NFDB sponsored
demonstration on ‘Growth and performance of improved fish
varieties i.e. Jayanthi rohu and Amur carp’ and were released in
six locations including KVK Instructional farm on 27.10.2018 and 31.10.2018.

Meetings
Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati attended a training on ‘One day workshop on
Farmers Producer Organization (FPOs) and Tomato Value Chain Intervention’ from 23rd & 24th
October, 2018 at Tirupati.
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Associate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta attended National seminar on
“Abiotic Stress Management: Challenges and Opportunities” held at Dept. of Crop Physiology, Tamil
Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore from 25th-26th October, 2018 and presented oral presen-
tation on “Growth and flowering response in gladiolus cv. Arka Amar as influenced by planting
time, growth regulators and water stress”.
Smt. D. Aparna, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Venkataramannagudem
participated in five days training of trainers on “Good Agricultural
and Collection Practices of Medicinal Plants” from 22nd to 26th Oc-
tober, 2018 at Anand, Gujarat.
Vigilance Awareness Week
Vigilance Awareness Week was conducted at KVK, Venkataramannagudem, Pandirimamidi and
Periyavaram from 29th October 2018 to 3rd November 2018. The Integrity pledge was taken by KVK
staff under the concept “My Vision-Corruption Free India” on 30.10.2018.
Voter Awareness camp
‘Voter Awareness camp’ was organized by CoH, Anantharajupeta on
22.10.2018. In this program Sri. Chandrayudu, MRO, Rly Koduru
explained about creation of voter awareness among students to
educate the voter about the importance of vote in democratic country
like India to select a suitable and right candidate. Dr. M. Ramakrishna,
Associate Dean coordinated the progamme.
KVK, Pandirimamidi has taken up new cashew plantation with BPP-8
and BPP-9 varieties in 10 acres at Doubling Farmer’s Income (DFI)
village i.e. I.Polavaram village of Rampachodavaram mandal. Sri Bha-
numurthy K.C, Scientist (Hort.) coordinated the plantation
programme and explained the farmers about planting method and its
after care.

Visits
On 22.10.2018, Dr. M.Laxminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture,
Dr. A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs visited newly installed shade
net house in the College farm at CoH, Parvathipuram and inaugu-
rated Health Clinic and new RO unit.
Dr. B. Babu Rao, Research Associate, PHTRS, Venkataramannagudem
explained the functioning of processing machineries and value added
products prepared at fruit and vegetable processing unit to
Sri.G.Rama Raju, former T.T.D Board Chairman, Bhimavaram, West
Godavari district who visited on 23.10.2018.
Dr. D.V. Swami, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, PHTRS, Venkata-
ramannagudem is explained the functioning of processing machin-
ery, ripening chambers and value added products at integrated
pack house unit to farmers (25 no.) from Kandukuru, Prakasam
District visited on 25.10.2018.
Third year B.Tech students of NIT-AP, Tadepalligudem got trained on
practicals in molecular biology for three days from 29.10.2018 to
31.10.2018 at CoH, Venkataramannagudem. Dr.D.R.Salomi Suneetha,
Professor (Biochem) and Dr.K.Aruna Kumari, Teaching Associate
(Biotech.) have trained the students on Polymerase Chain Reaction
(PCR), Transformation and ligation studies and screening in E.coli.
Students have also visited all the laboratories at college and interacted with the lecturers.
A batch of 100no. High School students from Rajampeta (V & M), Dr. Y.S.R.Kadapa dist. visited CoH,
Anantharajupeta on 27.10. 2018. Dr. M. Ramakrishna, Associate Dean,
welcomed the staff and students and gave a brief introduction about
the institute. Dr. K. Swarajya Lakshmi, Prof (Hort.), Sri Vinod, TA
(Floriculture), Lakshmi Prasanna, TA (Agril. Extn.) explained them
about the activities. Later, students were taken on a field visit to col-
lege farm and the laboratories.
The Joint Director of Agriculture, West Godavari dist. and Agricultural
Officer, Unguturu visited the solid and liquid biofertilizer units and in-
spected the machinery and interacted with the scientists and staff re-
lated to biofertilizer production unit on 27.10.2018.

Sri.V.James Prabhakar, Superintendent, Administrative office,
Dr.YSRHU retired on 31.10.2018 on attaining superannuation. All
the university officers and staff have felicitated him.
Sri. C. Gopi Nath, AEO, CRS, Tirupati retired on 31.10.2018 on
attaining superannuation. Staff of CRS, Tirupati felicitated him on
this occasion.
