51st Meeting of Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU
51st meeting of Board of Management of Dr.YSRHU was held
at Venkataramannagudem on 10.11.2018 under the chair-
manship of Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor
(FAC) & Ex-Officio Secretary to Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.
Education
Rythu Sadassus
RHWEP students allotted to KVK, Pandirimamidi have
organized Rythu Sadassu on 01.11.2018 at Rampa Erram-
palem village, Gokavaram Mandal, East Godavari District.
Dr.M.Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture,
Dr.K.Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean and Dr.A.Harshavardhan,
Associate Dean’s Representative for RHWEP have
attended the programme. Scientists from KVK, Pandirima-
midi, ADH, ZPTC, MPP, MPTC, host farmers and other
farmers have attended the meeting and interacted with the scientists.

Sadassu on 02.11.2018 at Mukkamala Village, East Godavari
District. Dr.M.Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture,
Dr.K.Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean and Dr.G.Kranthi Rekha, Asso-
ciate Dean’s Representative for RHWEP have attended the pro-
gramme. Scientists from HRS, Ambajipeta, host farmers and
other farmers have attended the meeting and visited the exhi-
bition organized by the students.
Student READY Programme
Final year students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem viz., Ms.M.Tejaswini, Ms. M.Yamuna and
Mr.S.Sainadh Reddy were selected for In-plant training in ITC, Guntur through interview under
‘STUDENT READY programme-Placement in Industries’. The students will undergo training in ITC,
Guntur during II semester, 2018-19.
NSS Activities
Coconut planting was done at Girls Hostel, CoH, Anantharaju-
peta as a part of NSS activities during the visit of Dr. A. Su-
jatha, Dean of Student Affairs and inspected the facilities
available and other arrangements about the 8th Inter colle-
giate sports meet on 02.11.2018. Dr. M. Ramakrishna, Associ-
ate Dean, Dr. C. Madhumathi, Professor (Hort), NSS officers
Dr. B. Tanuja Priya and Dr. K. Arunodhayam, staff along with
NSS volunteers have participated in the programme.
Scientists of HRS, Anantharajupeta observed severe infestation
of spodoptera damage caused by Spodoptera sp (species yet to
be identified) in banana at Bayanapalli village of Kodur Divi-
sion.
Research
Extension Training Programmes
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Venkataramannagudem organized 25
days Skill Development Training Program (SDTP) on “Small
Poultry Farming” to 20nos. farmers in coordination with Agri-
cultural Skill Council of India (ASCI) and ICAR-ATARI, Hydera-
bad. The programme was inaugurated by Dr.B.Srininvasulu,
Registrar in the presence of Dr. R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Ex-
tension on 01.11.2018 and explained about the importance of
the skill training program to the young farmers as the demand
for the selected enterprise (backyard poultry rearing and marketing) for the country type poultry
birds is increasing. The 1st module of the program was conducted from 01.11.2018 to 06.11.2018
and coordinated by Dr. E. Karuna Sree, Principal Scientist & Head, Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist

(Veterinary Science) and Dr. A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science). Technical and
practical sessions involving all the aspects of small scale poultry hatching, rearing and marketing
skills to the participants will be imparted by the experts invited from various institutions of SVVU,
tirupati, KVKs and private agencies.
On 15.11.2018, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted One day
Workshop cum Awareness programme to the farmers on
Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management (DSM) in
Agriculture Sector in collaboration with ATARI and APSECM.
Dr.R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension and Sri.Manohar
Prasad, IAS, Director CDR inaugurated the energy efficiency
related stalls arranged by APMIP, LAYA NGO, TANAGER and
NREDCAP etc. Inaugural session was presided over by
Dr.R.V.S.K Reddy and addressed the gathering on Energy Efficiency and water conservation aspects,
to protect the natural resources like solar energy, wind energy, water, conserve them and utilize
them in an effective way. Pocket cards on cashew grafts planting and after care and a pamphlet on
Energy Efficiency and Conservation was released by the dignitaries. Dr.Manohar Prasad, Principal
Scientist & Head, HRS, Pandirimamidi, Sri.Rammohan, PD, APMIP and DDH Kakinada,
Sri.Ramanamurthy, Divisional Engineer,EESL, Smt.P.Padmaja, PD, ATMA, and officials from
NREDCAP, APSECM addressed the gathering on conservation of natural resources. Technical
session was carried out on Case studies on AGDSM, Soil and Water Conservation schemes, Water
conservation measures, Drip and Sprinkler irrigation by LAYA, NGO, KVK Scientists. Sri.P.Raja Sek-
har, Scientist (Soil Science) coordinated the programme. NGO volunteers, Horticulture Officer,
BTMs, ATMs and about 200 farmers from Rampachodavaram, Addateegala, Gangavaram ,
Korukonda mandals of East Godavari district have participated in the programme.
Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati attended a training programme as resource
person on "Pest Disease management of lime and sweet orange" at Regional Horticulture Training
Institute, Kadapa on 09.11.2018.
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Associate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta attended a training programme
as resource person on “Management aspects before, during flowering, fruiting, nutrition and plant
protection aspects in mango” organised by Dept. of Horticulture at Ragimanupenta (village),
Bangarupalem mandal, Chittoor Dist. on 10.11.2018.

as resource person on “ Production of marigold, chrysanthemum, tuberose under low cost shade
net house and plant protection aspects” organised by Dept. of Horticulture at Mittur, Irala (Mandal),
Chittoor Dist. on 11.11.2018.

puramu attended a training programme as resource person on
‘Cultivation of Pomegranate’ at Regional Horticulture Training In-
stitute, Anantapuramu on 13.11.2018.

On 14.11.2018, G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path), KVK, Vonipenta
attended a training programme as resource person conducted by
ATMA at Sunkulagaripalli village in Mydukur mandal. Explained the
pest and disease management in turmeric, tomato and viral disease
management in chillies.
On 13.11.2018, S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi
attended as resource person for ‘Awareness program on fall army
worm in maize’ organized by Department of Agriculture at Pudi-
pally and Indukurupeta villages. Explained about various stages of
maize that is affected, other host crops and possible management
practices that can followed to reduce the damage.
On 02.11.18, G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.), KVK, Vonipenta
attended a training programme as resource person conducted by
Department of Horticulture at Narjampalli village of Myalavaram
mandal. Explained about fertilizer management, INM, pests and dis-
ease management in chilli. Sri Jaya Bharath Reddy, HO, Mylavaram
also participated.
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Associate Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta
attended a training programme as resource person on
“Rejuvenation, pruning technology and management aspects before,
during flowering and fruiting in mango” organised by Regional Hor-
ticultural Training Institute (RHTI), Dept. of Horticulture at Rythu
Bazar, Chittoor on 04.11.2018.
Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist, (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta par-
ticipated in awareness meeting on rugose spiralling whitefly at Uchili,
Vaddiparru villages of Atreyapuram mandal organized by Depart-
ment of Horticulture, East Godavari district on 03.11.2018 and ex-
plained about the control measures and created awareness among
the farmers.
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Principal Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Amba-
jipeta participated in awareness meeting on rugose spiralling
whitefly at Chinthapalli village of Pusapatirega mandal organized
by Department of Horticulture, Vizianagaram on 14.11.2018 and
explained about the control measures and created awareness
among the farmers.
Ms. K.Chakkani Priya, Research Associate (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta
attended a training programme as resource person on ‘Black
headed caterpillar control in coconut’ at S.Yanam village, Up-
palaguptam mandal organized by Department of Horticulture, East
Godavari district on 14.11.2018 and explained about the control
measures and created awareness among the farmers.

On Farm Trial
On 03.11.2018, Dr. R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension along with
technical team of KVK, Vonipenta visited banana and turmeric OFT
fields. Observed potassium deficiency in banana, leaf spot disease
infection in turmeric fields and recommended to spray potassium
nitrate @0.5% in banana fields and mancozeb @0.25% or chlorotha-
lonil @ 0.25% in turmeric fields respectively. Later Dr.R,V.S.K Reddy,
Director of Extension interacted with the farmers and explained about fertilizer management and
INM for better yields.
On 1.11.2018, Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem initiated OFT on Management of Fall Army Worm Worm,
Spodoptera frugiperda on maize at Telikicherla village. Three treat-
ment plots i.e. IPM, BIPM and control plots were sown with maize
seed along with fodder sorghum as border crop and desmodium as
intercrop in IPM and BIPM plots.
On 06.11.2018, Dr. V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK,
Vonipenta distributed marigold cuttings of Arka Bangara-2 to benefi-
ciary farmers at Mitamanupalli and Vonipenta village of Mydukur
mandal under OFT and suggested to pinch the apical buds one
month after planting for more branching and yield.
Tribal Sub Plan
On 02.11.2018, Dr.E.Karuna sree, Principal Scientist & Head, Sri.
G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited
apiary init (Apis cerana) at Kamaiahkunta village and suggested to
go for division of bee colonies for multiplication of bees and dis-
tributed Apis cerana bee hive boxes to the beekeeper under Tribal
Sub – plan programme.
On 12.11.2018, T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science) KVK,
Venkataramannagudem distributed bypass fat to the dairy farmers of
Manchuvarigudem village, Buttaigudem mandal to assess the milk
production performance of dairy animals as a part of TSP technical
programme for the year 2018-19.
On 08.11.2018, Dr. K. Venkata subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) and B.
Rupa Devi, Research Associate (Soil Science), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem distributed need based inputs (vermicompost and
biofertilizers like azotobacter and PSB) under integrated crop
management in cashew. Scientists explained about cashew or-
chard management to the farmers and more than 30 farmers
have participated in this programme.

Diagnostic Visits
On 02.11.2018, Dr.E.Karuna Sree, Principal Scientist & Head, Sri.
G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.),
Kum.B.Rupa Devi, Research Associate (Soil Science), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem visited Farmer Field School (FFS) plot on production of
pesticide residue free vegetables (brinjal & okra) at Busarajupalli vil-
lage. Suggested for thinning in okra and fertilizer application and dis-
tributed inputs i.e. fertilizers, neem soap against defoliators and marigold seedlings as trap crop.
On 02.11.2018, Dr.V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.) and E. Ravi Goud, Re-
search Associate (Extension), KVK, Vonipenta visited turmeric fields for diagnosis of
pests and diseases at Pappanapalli village of Mydukur mandal. Observed the inci-
dence of turmeric leaf spot disease and recommended spraying of propiconazole @
0.1% twice in 15days interval.
On 09.11.2018, G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path) and Dr.V. Yugandhar, Re-
search Associate (Hort.), KVK, Vonipenta visited tomato fields for diagnosis of
pests and diseases at Mittamanupalli village of Mydukur mandal. Observed
powdery mildew infection and recommended the foliar application of wet-
table sulphur @ 0.3% or kerathane @ 0.1%.
On 09.11.2018, G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path) and Dr.V.
Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.), KVK, Vonipenta visited guava
fields for diagnosis of pests and diseases at Tuvvapalli village of My-
dukur mandal. Observed mealy bug infestation in guava and recom-
mended spraying of acephate @0.1% or dichlorovos or profenophos
@ 0.1% and explained about pruning and training in early stages.
On 14.11.2018, Dr.V. Yugandhar, Research Associate (Hort.) and E.
Ravi Goud Research Associate (Extn.), KVK, Vonipenta visited banana
fields for diagnosis of pests and diseases at Musalnayanapalli village of
Mydukur mandal. Observed leaf streak virus infection and recom-
mended removal and destruction of infected plants followed by spray-
ing of dimethoate or methyl-O-demeton @ 0.2% to control the vector.
On 09.11.2018, Dr.S. Adarsha Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi observed midge
damage in chilli and recommended to spray chlorantraniliprole @ 0.3 ml/l followed
by carbosulfan @ 2ml/ l for control of the pest.
Smt. T. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl.Path.), HRS, Anantharajupeta along
with local Horticulture MPEO’s visited banana field at C.Kmmapalle
village of Kadapa district on 06.1.-2018 and observed severe incidence
of sigatoka leaf spot on 7-8 months old tissue culture (G-9) banana and
suggested control measures.

On 08.11.2018, S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) and N.Srividya Rani, Scien-
tist (Extension), KVK, Pandirimamidi diagnosed BPH infestation in rice
fields at pandiriveedi village of Rampachodavaram mandal and recom-
mended to spray pymetrozine 50 WG 0.8g/l twice at 15 days interval
for control.
On 05.11.2018, T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK, Venkata-
ramannagudem attended a medical case of milking buffalo in Vellamilli village
sufferering from fever (1030 F), decreased feed intake, watery diarrhoea, de-
creased milk production and treated with inj. Dicrysticine, I/M, inj.Melonex,
I/M, Metranidazole tablets and Neblon powder orally for three days.
Field Day
KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted field day in paddy variety
DRR Dhan-45 at Settipeta village on 05.11.2018. Crop Cutting Ex-
periment was conducted in paddy var. DRR Dhan-45 and recorded
30 bags/ acre yield. Dr. V. Deepthi, Scientist (Agri. Extn.) coordi-
nated the programme.
Polam Pilustondi
On 09.11.2018, S. Adarsha Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi
participated in ‘Polam Pilusthondi’ programme and created
awareness on fall army worm in maize. Field visits were made and
damage level of fall army worm in maize at vegetative stage of the
crop was observed. Possible pest management practices that can
be practiced in the initial stages to reduce the crop damage were
explained.
Front Line Demonstrations
On 03.11.2018, Dr. R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension along
with technical team of KVK, Vonipenta visited blackgram (TBG-
104) fields cultivated under Cluster Front Line Demonstrations-
Pulses under NFSM sponsored by ICAR- ATARI, Zone - X,
Hyderabad at Madirepalli village of Duvvur mandal and interacted
with farmers and distributed critical inputs i.e., neem oil, thiodi-
carb and myclobutanil for the management of pests and diseases.
On 02.11.2018, Scientists of KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited
ICM demonstration plots of cashew and conducted method
demonstration on application of bio – fertilisers and swabbing of
cashew trunk with neem soap @ 5g/l after mechanical removal of
larvae against cashew stem and root borer at Lankapalli village as
a part of FLD on Management of Cashew orchards with ICM
Practices in neglected cashew orchards.

On 12.11.2018, technical team of KVK, Vonipenta conducted FLD
on enhancing banana bunch yield through application of N, K and
S at Sunkulagaripalli village and emphasized the importance of
application of recommended dose of fertilizers. Later distributed
inputs viz., potassium nitrate, agromin max (micronutrient mix-
ture), biozyme and sulphate of potash to the beneficiary farmers.
KVK, Venkataramannagudem distributed vegetable planting
material as part of FLD on nutritional kitchen garden at Tribal
Welfare School, Nuthiramannagudem on 15.11.2018 and
explained the advantages of kitchen gardening to the school
children. In this programme Dr. V. Deepthi, Scientist (Agril.
Extn.) and Sri. B. Rupa Devi (SSAC) have participated.
KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted mid-season training
programme on blackgram var. TBG-104 on 15.11.18 under
CFLD on pulses in collaboration with Department of Agricul-
ture at Dibbagudem, Jeelugumilli mandal. After the training
programme, distributed critical inputs like neem soap,
pongamia soap, profenophos and yellow and blue sticky traps
under CFLD pulses during the year 2018-19. Dr. V. Deepthi,
Scientist (Agri. Extn.) and Sri. B. Rupa Devi (Soil Science & Ag-
ricultural Chemistry) have co-ordinated the programme.
General
Meetings
Sri Ch.S. Kishore kumar ,Scientist (Pl Path.), HRS, Kovvur
participated in the Panel Discussion and appraisal meeting of
ICAR-AICRP on Nematodes in Agriculture from 12th-13th Nov,
2018 at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and presented
the work done report for the year 2017-18.
Visits
Dr. J. DilipBabu, Director of Research along with Dr. K.T. Venkata-
ramana, Zonal Research Head, Rayalaseema Zone, CRS, Tirupati
inspected ongoing research activities, date palm and apple ber
plantation during the visit to HRS, Anantapuramu and HRS,
Anantharajupeta on 14.11.2018.
A batch of 80 High School students from Rly Kodur, Y.S.R. Kadapa
dist. visited CoH, Anantharajupeta on 03.11.2018. Dr. M. Rama-
krishna, Associate Dean welcomed the staff and students and
gave a brief introduction about the institute. Dr. K. Swarajya Lak-
shmi, Prof (Hort), Dr. N.C. Mamatha, TA (Hort.), Sri N. Vinod, TA

(Floriculture), Ms. N. Lakshmi Prasanna, TA (Agri. Extn.) explained about the activities on the cam-
pus followed by a visit to farm and the laboratories.
Dr. V.N.P Shivaramakrishna, Assoc. Prof (Hort.), CoH, Anantharaju-
peta along with Horticulture Officer and 25 farmers went on an
exposure visit to National Organic Farming Research Institute,
Gangtok from 7th to 13th Oct, 2018. Visited organic farms in Sikkim
state.
