FLUID-Structure Interactions:• Fluid flow causes deformation or movement of structure • Moveable or deformable structure effects fluid flow

Applications or processes (examples):• Biomedical:Artificial heart valves, flow through veins or arteries• Automotive: Flow in Pumps, valves, flow around car components• AerospaceFlow around missiles, flow around airfoil components• ProductionInjection moulding

Some special treatments in I-deas for FSI-modelling

• Two separate FE-models: solid model and fluid model

• Definition of elements with special properties (e.g. material labels)

or boundary conditions at the FSI boundaries and walls

• I-deas-ADINA interface translates and prepares the models

• Post-processing is possible in I-deas for both models separately

• Investigation of solid and fluid model: ADINA post-processing

Validation of ADINA FSI:Tube with elastic wall

wall properties:thickness h, Young’s Modulus E

tube/flow properties:density , radius R

C0 = E h

wave propagation velocity:

modelling:transient FSI

Conclusions• ADINA is a very powerful tool to solve FSI problems• ADINA is fully integrated in I-deas • Use of I-deas meshing and modelling capabilities

Requirement for users:Experience in • Structural FEA and• CFD is important for modelling and interpretation of results
