The topics of this month’s SLAC Meeting were nutrition and safe-ty. Thank you to Cutler Bay Senior High Principal, Mr. Lucas De La Torre and the student leaders for inviting Ms. Penny Parham, Food and Nutrition Officer, Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Ms. Parham shared the District’s initiative of providing healthy balanced meals throughout the county. As an example of the foods available in all schools, the students were able to taste wraps and paninis prepared by the Cutler Bay Sr. Cafeteria Staff. Ms. Parham also provided the students with tips on how to main-tain a healthy lifestyle when they are away at college. During the last half of the meeting, the students broke into groups for a brainstorming session on school and student safety. The stu-dents individually provided many ideas and suggestions which we will have an opportunity to discuss at the next SLAC meeting scheduled at the Medical Academy for Science and Technology on March 15th @ 3:30 p.m.
