Conference Information

What is Drupalsouth

DrupalSouth is an international event hosted by a local event committee in New Zealand with the support of the Drupal Association and many Drupal community volunteers. The event brings together the people who use, develop, design, and support the Drupal platform. More than just another trade show or industry conference, it’s a shared experience that seeks to inspire and engage.

DrupalSouth Wellington will feature dozens of curated sessions and panels from some of the most influential people and brightest minds within the Drupal, Symfony, PHP, jQuery and javascript open source communities, as well as countless opportunities for networking, code sprints, informal conversations, and more.

Dates DrupalSouth runs over a weekend from February 14 – 16, 2014

Venue The Amora Hotel Wellington is located in the central city in the heart of the arts and entertainment precinct. The waterfront is close by, as well as funky Cuba Street just around the corner, with designer shops in the Old Bank Arcade and high street options in Lambton Quay nearby. The Amora Ballroom is the premium venue located on the sixth floor, with a 4.4m ceiling stud giving it the illusion of a grand open space.

The Ballroom Foyer which will be used for registration, advertising and catering has panoramic views over Wellington Harbour.

Drupal in neW ZealanD Drupal is used for a wide range of sites in New Zealand, including business, government, education and non-profit organisations. There is an ever increasing active community of individuals and companies developing sites, and contributing to the worldwide Drupal community.

We look forward to welcoming you to Aotearoa

The last major land mass to be discovered and occupied, New Zealand is an alluring mix of stunning landscapes, unique flora and fauna and unspoiled countryside combined with pastoral scenes of surprising beauty. The overwhelming impression of the land is pure and green, with fresh air and clean waters.

Nestled deep in the South Pacific, New Zealand offers a modern, sophisticated urban lifestyle combined with a natural and unspoiled rural heritage that sets it apart from the rest of the world. We have a stable political environment and have led the world in many areas of social policy, scientific achievements and sporting triumphs. For a nation of just four million people, New Zealand produces an extraordinarily large number of achievers in many areas. From the majestic fjords and Alps in the South Island to

the native forests and silver sandy bays of the north, ours is a land of awesome beauty.

Small cities are spaced the length of the country, with miles of green fields in between, populated by sheep and cows and interspersed with forests of native trees and bush or commercial forests of pine. Beautiful sub-tropical beaches are to be found everywhere – even within 10 minutes of downtown Auckland!

There is a rich culture of the indigenous Maori entwined with more recent migratory groups from the United Kingdom, other European countries, as well as a range of Pacific Island peoples and more recently significant Asian migration.New Zealanders are friendly, independent, free-spirited and welcoming. There is nothing we enjoy more than showing overseas visitors ‘our place’ in the South Pacific.

Wellington is a destination where all the best things in life come together. It’s compact, cultural and cutting edge.

Whatever you’re planning, you can rest assured that Wellington offers the goods and the good times to make your stay a success.

Home to the nation’s decision-makers, there’s no doubt that New Zealand’s political centre is a sophisticated and convenient place to do business.

Good reasons to come to Wellington

pretty much every night. But as well as all that arty stuff, Wellington’s loved for its gastronomic delights. You might say they like their food, and they like it good.

If you need to walk off all that goodness, you’re also in luck. Wellington is a capital city right on nature’s doorstep, with a peaceful walk through native bush or along a golden sandy beach never far from the urban hub.

How many times have you taken your running shoes to a conference, but never made it to the gym? In Wellington, delegates can exercise and see the sights at the same time. A hike up Mount Victoria for panoramic views of the city, or a stroll through the Botanic Garden are just a few minutes’ walk away from the inner city hotels.

International guests also love the stories of nationhood and heritage as told at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Parliament Buildings and the region’s many boutique museums. Others just like to take their shoes off and sit on the golden sand on Oriental Bay with a good strong flat white. Who could blame them?

Wellington: the smart ChoiCe

Wellington combines big city chic with small village charm, and is a fantastic conference destination to boot. Hugged by a natural amphitheatre of hills and harbour, Wellington is also celebrated as the country’s cultural and creative hub. Add a picturesque setting, accessibility and the large range of venues and facilities on offer into the mix and you have the perfect place to do business.
