Dr. Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award

The Dr. Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award promotes excellence in academic research for members early in theircareers. This award honors the founding editor of the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) byrecognizing the importance of the young investigator in developing the interventional solutions for the future.

The SIR Foundation is proud to announce Filip Banovac, MD of the Georgetown University Hospital, Washington,DC, as the winner of the 2009 Dr. Gary J. Becker Young Investigator Award. Dr. Banovac’s manuscript entitled,“Radiofrequency Ablation of Lung Tumors in Swine Assisted by a Navigation Device with Preprocedural VolumetricPlanning,” was chosen as the best fit model of promoting academic research among young interventional radiologists.Dr. Banovac will receive an expense paid trip to the 2009 Annual Meeting as well as an honorarium. The Dr. Gary J.Becker Young Investigator Award will be presented on Monday, March 9, during the IR Research to (Better) Practiceplenary session at 1:30 pm.
