Economic Crisis or SanctionsReduced availability of finance for IOCs due to the financial crisis has led to NOCs becoming involved in the financing of PSA projects;

NOCs involvement through self-financing result in greater control and larger share of the profit for the NOCs;

Though the world is running out of oil and gas, but Oil and Natural gas will continue to be the primary energy sources for years to come. Unconventional oil and gas will become increasingly more important.

Though there is increasing convergence between IOCs and NOCs, significant differences exist in asset ownership patterns across the value chain, and that makes the partnership arrangement difficult

While IOCs have greater interests in upstream investments, NOCs like partnership more in downstream. However, NOCs partnership in downstream investments will also dictate an increase in upstream investments to guarantee supply
