This year has been packed with exciting times for the Orchard
Ridge’s Swim and Dive team. There were many reasons to celebrate
at the Hawaiian themed event appropriately titled “Ohana”. Ohana
means family, which is what this group of swimmers and divers
became from the amount of time and dedication that was put into the
program. This year that dedication really paid off with a sweep of the
boys, girls, and over all titles at the City Dive Meet championship at
South Side’s Brown Natatorium.
Nearly 200 guests attended the
event which included an auction of
Hawaiian themed artwork that the
kids created, a ukulele performance,
many, many awards and a Hawaiian
themed dinner buffet.
In Other Swim News….The pool season is coming to a close; Labor Day is the final day the pool is open for the
summer. We had a fantastic summer season for the swim, dive and prep teams! The final weekend of July the ORCC
Swim Team participated in the 52nd annual Fort Wayne City Swim Meet. It was a very exciting weekend with over
90% of the swimmers earning a best time for the season. Our team earned a very respectable 5th place (out of 14
teams). All of the coaches were very proud of our 110 participants on the three teams! Thanks again to the parents and
grandparents who helped get the kids where they needed to be and for helping out at all of our meets. You can view the

LGL Girls Gone GolfingGirls Gone GolfingGirls Gone GolfingGirls Gone Golfing The Ladies Golf League out did themselves again this year with a “Girls Gone Golf-
ing” theme. The morning began with breakfast and a Bloody Mary bar. This set the
day up right for Jody Ault, Sally Walker,
Patti Beck and Connie Bade to secure the
first place win for their team. Wezzie
Gettelfinger took the prize for closest to the
pin on #6 and Esther Boyd, closest to the
pin on #5. Jody Ault secured the title of the
longest drive on #3.
A celebratory lunch buffet was served in the
Overlook with many prizes and accolades
being made. The selected colors for the
event were pink and green and was evident
throughout the event from the banners to the
napkins and centerpieces. A good time was
had by all.

I am excited to discuss a project trial the maintenance staff will be performing the
last 2 weeks of August. Many of you have heard or read about the new varieties of
bentgrass clubs across the country are changing over to. These new varieties are
genetically advanced and change the way golf courses are managed. Disease
resistant, drought tolerant, and superior playing surfaces are the main
characteristics this grass provides. For perspective, these surfaces use one-third of
the fertilizer; one-fifth of the water; and approximately one-tenth of the chemical
inputs the older bentgrasses require. Our goal is to give our members and their
guests the finest playing conditions possible while being good stewards of our
environment.
We will be killing off the front half of #4 fairway and reseeding with 2 varieties, split down the middle. We will back
off maintenance on this fairway next year to test which one holds up and also which surface is most desired by the
membership. Once it is established, I would love to get feedback from the membership as far as noticeable differences
and preferences. If there are any questions, feel free to contact me to discuss this or any other item on the course.
Best regards,
Chad Miller

FAIRWAY FITNESS FACTS - PEAKING AT THE RIGHT TIME
Getting in shape for golf requires as little as two 15 to 20 minute exercise sessions per
week. As your condition improves, however, your exercise time and effort can be pro-
gressively increased and integrated onto a per-iodized training program in which you
emphasize different conditioning components for various time periods throughout the
year.
The success of any training program is based on how you are able to control, modify,
and manipulate two key variables: volume and intensity. - Compliments of Zoomie Golf

Golf Tip of the Month…
Use your practice time wisely. If you have one hour to devote to practice,
spend one half hour on the range and the rest of your time on the short range
and putting green. Don’t spend all of your time in one area! Try to simulate
and picture golf course situations in your practice regimen. Gary and I feel this
will help you produce more consistent results on the course.
