EVOLUTION OF THE CATTLE YARD Change is the nature of business - yours and ours, and often change is for the better. Over the
last decade timber cattle yards have begun to be replaced by their steel counterparts, and there
are many good reasons for the change. Some of the main benefits of steel: they are virtually
maintenance free ; quick to install so you can get straight back into the real work; stronger than
timber and therefore safer; and the railings are anti-bruise keeping stock in top condition .
The shape of stockyards has also changed. Research shows that round yards have a lot better flow
because of cattle's natural tendency to circle their handler. Cattle flow in easier making the yard
safer. Circular yards also put less stress on the animals because the handler can stay out of the
animal's line of vision, unlike in traditional yards, where the operator is often directly in the animal's
line of vision. While these have been big changes, we're always looking for !}ew-ana innovative ways
to improve our equipment for better performance on farm .
Efficient flow in ayard improves safety dramatically
ANTI-BRUISE ROUND PIPE Although a round pipe has no sharp edges it still
has a single pressure point when an animal presses against it.
SQUARE PIPE Causes bruises when used in cattle yards
because of sharp edges.

for my operation
It is estimated that between 5-1 5kg of coffle body weight can be worked off in stressful coffle yards, costing you another couple of weeks in growth before reaching target weight.
Yards that are well designed and constructed are not only safer to work in, they're also more efficient,
enabling you and your staff to put through more cattle with less stress to both humans and beasts.
There's a lot to take into account when designing a stockyard system: number of cattle ; mob size-; land-area
you're running; breed; and what type of cattle you're producing, to name a few. Cattlemaster Stockyards can
be designed to suit any situation. Our design team can really help here· use a standard proven plan, your
own design or a mix of both to suit your operation. There are many queries people have when investing in a
Cattlemaster Stockyard System and our customer services team are trained to work out the best solution for
your needs and budget. For any enquiries they are available on FREEPHONE 0800 49 27 37.

Testimonial HE iBULl SHOP As well as their 1500 cow dairy operation and bull rearing wor\(, John and Mary Washer and company run The Bull Shop, a bull sales and hiring facility, from their business headquarters on Koru Rd, Oakura, Taranaki.
"To date, we have had 20 annual sales; none of which have been more successful than our most recent, which was held in September last year," says John.
'We set all sorts of records that day, selling 410 bulls In 2 hours and 20 minutes."
The catalyst for that record-setting sale was a new set of Te Pari manufactured Cattlemaster yards constructed at the Koru Rd site, complete with a covered auditorium in which to conduct the auction.
The Washers were no strahgers to the Te Pari range of products - two sets of yards, both complete with headbails, had previously been installed on other properties. These
had been tried and tested over time - the sturdiness of gates and rails, the overall cost compared with other systems, and the easy headbail operation, were all factors which persuaded the Washers to look to the Te Pari team to install their main set of yards.
"I deSigned the sale ring, and the men from Te Pari put it up· says John, "The yards were completed in a day."
"The yards have proved fantastic. With everything Oynabolted to the concrete, gates open and shut smoothly, and despite the number of bulls being put through the ring, nothing jumps around."
The Washers first saw Cattlemaster' products at a fielday five years ago, and since purchasing have really put the products to the test in their large operation. They have been more than pleased with their investment In Cattiemaster stockhandling products, particularly for their safety and durability.
