Togetherhood is a YMCA initiative that invites Y members to activate their social responsibility by participating in the Y’s cause to strengthen community. This initiative provides Y members with fun, convenient and rewarding ways to give
back and support their neighbors through member– generated service projects and other charitable endeavors.
Togetherhood serves to bring the Y back to its roots as a volunteer–powered association of people who wish
to make a difference. We are currently seeking Y members who wish to serve
their community. We have a variety of ways to get involved in the Togetherhood initiative, and we strongly encourage our members to learn more. Check out all the
various volunteer opportunities we have at www.rockriverymca.org/volunteers.

ROCKFORD SERVICE CORPS
Do you want to make an impact and get things done in your community? AmeriCorps programs do more than
move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places
thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for
education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.
The Y is currently seeking community members to become part of our AmeriCorps service program. Individuals work
with a diverse group of children and teens through various types of service work, such as mentorship, community
service projects and many others.
AmeriCorps members will work on a part–time basis for a one year service term and some will receive a monthly living stipend and all will receive an educational award to be used for future or current educational costs upon the completion of service. This is a great way for students and recent grads to gain new skills and professional
experience, serve their community and build their resumes.

PRAYER BOX
We invite you to share your concerns with us so we can support you in prayer. We have placed a box in the lobby
at the Northeast Family YMCA, one in the Puri Family YMCA lobby, and one just off the lobby on the way to the main gym at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA. There you can anonymously drop off any prayer requests you might
have. There is no limit to how many requests you may make. A team of pray-ers, including the Y chaplains will pray
regularly over these requests. Strict confidentiality will be adhered to.
CHAPLAIN TEAM
We now have a growing team of volunteer chaplains to serve you, available to any Y member, staff, or guest. If you have something on your mind, need prayer, or just
want someone to talk to, let us know. Our chaplains are mostly local pastors, or people engaged in ministry in the community. If you have a need, we will connect you to one
of the team. We are also willing to volunteer to help in any area of need that we can.
DEVOTIONS
We send out a weekly, brief devotion to all staff, and offer it to anyone else who wants it. Just contact Gary to be
added to the email list.
To get information about what is available, to suggest an idea, or to share a concern or prayer
request, contact: Gary Schwerin, Spiritual Development Minister,
at 815.985.8796 or [email protected] or visit www.rockriverymca.org.
PRAYER GATHERING
There is a time for community prayer every Wednesday morning from 7am-8:30am at the Log Lodge of the
SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA. All are welcome. It is a drop in event, so come for as long or as short as you
like. From June through August we move the prayer time to Anderson Gardens to accommodate other use of the Lodge.
PARTNERSHIPS
We realize that we cannot accomplish all we hope to in the area of Christian spiritual development by ourselves. That is why we are always seeking to build partnerships with congregations, ministries, and individuals who share our passion and heart for this. For example, Campus Life meets in the SwedishAmerican Y facility, and Crossroads Kids Clubs partner with our after school programs in sev-
eral locations. We desire to make our facilities available to you and your congregation or ministry if you have a class or outreach or ministry that would be well served by being
in the Y. Contact us with your ideas.
