Use of shallow geothermal energy
Providing heat• Focus: heating buildings usually using heat pumps• subordinate: Ice prevention of traffic areas, agriculture and fish farming,
swimming pool heating
Providing Cooling• Air conditioning of buildings• direct cooling• Active cooling using heat pump / chiller
Heat and cold storage• seasonal storage• Storage of solar heat or waste heat from industrial and power plant processes
Shallow Geothermal Energy
75% of the heating supplies the earth for free!

Quality Standards in Germany
Why?
Prevention of groundwater and drinking water pollution
Information base for planning offices, companies, public authorities, consumers,
Planning tool for everyone involved
reduce negative impacts on underground, environmental and plant engineering
Updates are required! (State of the art)
new insights on materials, damage cases, new techniques
Modifications of legal foundations
Development of hydrogeological location information available to authorities and

Summary and Assessment
Each plant is an interference with the protected
assets: soil, groundwater and stone
It must be defined what impact are disadvantage
and which are acceptable
To the result must be adapted the permit
notifications, the certification procedures, the
Standards and the educational content.
Trends and Perspectives
Promotion program "Marktanreizprogramm " (MAP) of the Federal
Base promotion in existing buildings:
for geothermal systems with geothermal probes: min. € 4500,
other geothermal plants € 4000 (JAZ > 4 in residential buildings
and JAZ > 3.8 in non-residential buildings)
“Innovation-Promotion”: the case of particularly high efficiency
(JAZ: min. 4.5) can be increased by 50% the amount of funding.
“Innovation-Promotion” in new buildings:
At a JAZ of 4.5 and higher, the same funding rate as in the base promotion
in existing buildings (4000 € and above) applies.

Summary
Use of geothermal energy has a future, geothermal energy is a renewable
energy source.
The protection of groundwater has in Germany a general priority position.
A high quality in planning and design, in construction and in operation is very
important for an efficient heat pump system.
The technical progress (research and development) should be promoted.
The market needs new, innovative solutions (combination HP and PV).
Geothermal systems are also suitable as part of storage systems.
Geothermal systems are also suitable for air conditioning of buildings
(cooling).
