CAMERON White justifiedhis return to the national sidewith a brilliant batting dis-play as a new-look Australiadowned England by 13 runslast night in their openingTwenty20 clash at Bellerive.

White smashed 75 from 43balls in his first appearancefor Australia since 2012, help-ing the home side to a formi-dable 4-213 after they won thetoss and batted.

The 30-year-old helped him-self to six boundaries andfour sixes as the home sidetook a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series.

White and opening partnerAaron Finch (52 from 31) puton 106 before debutant ChrisLynn showed his class withthree sixes in his late cameoof 33 from 19.

Nathan Coulter-Nile (4-30)and Moises Henriques (2-36)then did the damage with theball, a scintillating Ravi Bo-para (65 from 27) knock Eng-land’s only real highlight.

Skipper of unbeaten BigBash League outfit the Mel-bourne Stars, White lastplayed a T20 match for Aust-ralia against the West Indiesin the World Twenty20 tour-nament in Colombo in Oct-ober 2012. He last played aODI in 2011 and a Test in 2008.

Needing to equal their high-est T20 international total,England never really lookedin it, despite Bopara’s latefireworks.

They lost Michael Lumb (9from 6) to a meek prod to mid-off at 1-14.

Henriques struck twice inthe fifth over, removing twoof England’s dangermen.

He had Luke Wright (9 from10) playing on and then Alex

Hales (22 from 12) lbw, thetourists reduced to 3-45.

Maxwell bowled the in-form Eoin Morgan (4 from 4)at 4-51 and England were instrife.

They were as good as gonewhen Coulter-Nile had JosButtler (20 from 14) and JoeRoot (32 from 24) caught in thedeep in the 12th over at 6-100.

A flurry of seven sixes fromBopara wasn’t enough to re-vive their hopes and they fin-ished at 9-200.
