Michael Kent Jr and senior
training partner Mick Price will
launch a two-pronged attack
on SAJC Lightning Stakes
(Listed, 1050m) in a bid to land valuable “black-
type” for a pair of juvenile fillies at the same time
as the stable awaits the arrival of high-profile
recruit Wisdom Of Water (Headwater).
Euphoric Summer (Not A Single Doubt)
and the well-bred Parlophone (I Am
Invincible) were last night on the road to
Adelaide for tomorrow’s two- and three-year-
old race and Kent is upbeat about the chances
of the duo. Continued on page 2>>

Alligator Blood disqualified, Vandyke finedAlligator Blood (All Too Hard) has been
disqualified from his win in the $2 million
Magic Millions Guineas (RL, 1400m) and
his trainer David Vandyke handed a $20,000
fine by Racing Queensland stewards after the
three-year-old was found to have returned a
positive post-race swab following his January
11 triumph. Additionally, Alligator Blood's
connections have forfeited their $1.1 million
winners' cheque, after traces of Altrenogest, a
substance banned for use on male horses, were
discovered.

Deemed worth of a Magic Millions
campaign early in the season, Euphoric Summer won the Clockwise
Classic (1000m) at Ballarat and was third to subsequent Group 1 winner
King’s Legacy (Redoute’s Choice) in the B J McLachlan Stakes (Gr 3,
1200m) prior to an unplaced run in the 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) in
January.
The Cressfield-bred filly has had two starts this campaign, her latest
when fourth at Caulfield over 1100 metres on June 27, while stablemate
Parlophone stamped her class with a first-up win at Sandown on June 24.
“The key to Euphoric Summer is that she is going from 61 down to 52
kilograms, a nine kilo weight swing, and she won’t know herself,” Kent told
ANZ Bloodstock News yesterday.
“She looks really good and she’s already a stakes-placed filly who has
drawn well and she’s an uncomplicated ride which is good because we’ve
got a relatively inexperienced rider, but I’m sure Eran (Boyd) is capable of
getting the job done.”
Parlophone is a promising filly whose half-brother is Telemon
Thoroughbreds’ first season sire Sun City (Zoustar), while her Deep Field
(Northern Meteor) yearling half-brother was bought by Alan Bell for
$800,000 this year.
She was retained to race by her breeder Geoff Walsh and partners who
include Lindsay Maxsted and Kent said she is a filly “I really like”.
“She’s got form through Personal who went onto run third in the Blue
Diamond. We gave her a break and she’s come back as an improved horse
and first-up she was a bit quirky,” he said.
“She’s done it twice now where she’s bucked out of the barriers for
five or six strides and I thought the race was over at Sandown first-up on a
day where you couldn’t make ground but she gobbled them up late to win
which was mightily impressive.

Kent on …Oceanex (4 m Ocean Park - Danex by Danasinga)
“She’s improved out of sight physically. Ocean Parks typically are very
late maturers and she’s typical of that. She’s got better again and it’s the
best she’s ever looked. She’s put on 30 kilograms during the break. It’s a
cliche, but she’s bigger and stronger and her regular track rider thinks
she’s flying. She’s on the Melbourne Cup path.”
Gold Bracelet (3 f Pins - Miss Bling by Golan)
“She’s a horse from New Zealand who’s had four starts for three wins
and she went and won the Wellington Guineas. She’s going to go to
the Cockram, Let’s Elope Stakes and then run in the Empire Rose on
Derby Day. Roll The Dice bought half of her with Jen Campin who raced
Wyndspelle:”
National Choice (2 c Snitzel - My Sabeel by Savabeel) and
Immortal Love (2 g Snitzel - Loveyamadly by Bel Esprit)
“They will both hopefully head to the Caulfield Guineas. National
Choice has had two starts (winning at Geelong and placing at Caulfield
in April and May) and Immortal Love is a gelding, but he’s won his only
two starts so far (at Echuca and Flemington) as well.”
Scientific (2 f Smart Missile - Alana’s Dream by Bernardini)
“Scientific is a filly who Damien Oliver really likes. She won nickel at
Geelong (on June 12) and she will hopefully head towards the Thousand
Guineas.”
Redeel (2 f Dundeel - Replacement Miss by Stryker) and
Pinkham (2 f Written Tycoon - Fontiton by Turffontein)
“Redeel is a Dundeel filly who won on debut very impressively (at
Pakenham) and in the sprinting fillies division we will also have
Pinkham who is a Written Tycoon-Fontiton filly. She got close to
the (track) record at Seymour on debut and she’s extremely good I
think.”

“She’s really come on and she looks
outstanding.”
Euphoric Summer (barrier 6) and Parlophone (barrier 5) will not
only clash on tomorrow, they also went head-to-head in a Caulfield track
gallop earlier this week.
“They’ve both had a little jump out in between runs to tick them
over. They went super and they galloped again on the course proper
Tuesday morning and there was hardly anything between them,” he
said.
“They’ve both drawn good barriers, so we’re really happy with both of
them and I wouldn’t be surprised if either of them won and hopefully both
of them get some black type.”
Providing both fillies pull up well from their Adelaide trip, they will
press on to the Quezette Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Caulfield on August
15.
Kent also revealed yesterday that a three-run spring campaign had
already been mapped out for rising three-year-old colt Wisdom Of Water,
who took out the Ken Russell Memorial (Gr 3, 1200m) at the Gold Coast in
May when trained by Toby and Trent Edmonds.
Aquis Farm bought into the son of Vinery Stud’s first season sire
Headwater (Exceed And Excel) prior to the colt’s fifth placing in the J J
Atkins Plate (Gr 1, 1400m) in June.
“The plan is to go to Danehill, Blue Sapphire and the Coolmore with
three runs in the spring. He’s on his way down now and is literally in
transit at the moment,” he said.
“We’ll get to know him over the next couple of months, but it’s exciting
to have a horse of that calibre in the stable. You can always try to teach
them new habits, but you can’t replace ability.”

12 for VancouverCoolmore resident Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro)
sired his 12th first-crop winner, and tenth in
Australia, when Royal Exit (2 g ex Kamarla
Rose by Nadeem) took out an 1100-metre two-
year-old maiden on debut at Warrnambool
yesterday. Trained locally by Matthew Williams,
the gelding defeated stablemate Champagne
Witness (Star Witness) by three-quarters of a
length with Sweet Sixteen (Sebring) coming
home a further two and a quarter lengths away
in third. Purchased by his trainer and Sheamus
Mills Bloodstock for $70,000 at Book 1 of the
Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Royal
Exit is one of two winners out of Kamarla Rose
(Nadeem), who herself is a sister to dual Group
scorer Sharnee Rose. Former reverse shuttler
Vancouver is also responsible for South African
Grade 2 winner Mount Pleasant and Percy
Sykes Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) runner-up Vangelic.
He stands at Coolmore’s Jerrys Plains for a fee
of $30,250 (inc GST) this season.
Alligator Blood disqualified, Vandyke finedAlligator Blood (All Too Hard) has been
disqualified from his win in the $2 million
Magic Millions Guineas (RL, 1400m) and
his trainer David Vandyke handed a $20,000
fine by Racing Queensland stewards after the
three-year-old was found to have returned a
positive post-race swab following his January
11 triumph. Additionally, Alligator Blood's
connections have forfeited their $1.1 million
winners' cheque, after traces of Altrenogest, a
substance banned for use on male horses, were
discovered. Initial runner-up Eleven Eleven
(Fastnet Rock) has been promoted to first,
while Exhilarates (Snitzel) improves to second
and Hightail (Written Tycoon) joins the minor
placings. More commonly known as Regu-
mate, Altrenogest is a hormone given to keep
female horses from being in season, or if they
are already pregnant, to keep them from losing
the foal. Vandyke avoided suspension after
being found guilty of breaching rule AR240(2).
He was charged with presenting a horse to
race with a prohibited substance, not the more
serious administrating charge.
Connections to challenge Alligator decision
Alligator Blood's owner Allan Endresz
yesterday confirmed he will head to the
Supreme Court to challenge the decision
of the Racing Queensland stewards. "From
the trainer's perspective, collectively we are
very happy," Endresz told Racing.com. "But
what did come out of it was they have stuck
the mandatory rule 240 that the horse is
automatically disqualified. That's consistent
with what I've been saying, that there was no
wriggle room. That will be the undoing when
I start to hit my straps. I have been talking
about it (heading to the Supreme Court) for
a long time. We will debrief our legal views to
QRIC so we are up front about that."
2021 Magic Millions yearling sales open for entriesEntries for the 2021 Magic Millions yearling
sales series opened yesterday, with nominations
being accepted for six sales across four states.
“Our sales series conducted across four states
offers ideal options to showcase yearlings at
every level – all aimed at providing breeders
with the greatest sale outcome,” Magic Millions
managing director Barry Bowditch said. “Saying
2020 has been a year like no other is without
doubt an understatement. As we plan ahead
amidst the uncertainty created by the Covid-19
pandemic, we recognise how important it is for
each and every breeder to achieve the very best
possible return.” Entries close on Friday, August
14 for all sales except the National Yearling Sale
which closes on March 12. Nominations can be
submitted here.
Viridine out to turn tables on JungleRunner-up to Jungle Edge (Dubawi) in the Sir
John Monash Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) last start,
Viridine (Poet’s Voice) will be out to turn the
tables on the mudlark when the pair clash again in
the Bletchingly Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield
tomorrow. The James Cummings-trained Viridine
was hampered by the heavy conditions in the
Monash and while the track was rated in the soft
range yesterday, rain is not expected on race day.
"We're looking forward to taking on Jungle Edge
again over a bit more ground and on a track that
hopefully won't be as heavy as it was two weeks
ago," Cummings said. "On a heavy track Jungle
Edge is a Group 1 horse. But we're not going into
this race thinking we can't turn around the result
from the Monash and neither have we lost sight
of the fact that there are some other very capable
horses lined up against us."

Bell sends Jungle warning for puntersMick Bell, the trainer of Jungle Edge, warned
punters that the track for tomorrow’s
Bletchingly is unlikely to be wet enough for
his nine-year-old mudlark. "My advice would
be to go for a place bet for this weekend," Bell
told Racing.com yesterday. "He seems to be
going better than ever and whether it's wet
or dry I think he'll finish top three, but it's
probably a safer bet than going for the win. Of
course we'd rather it a bit wetter for Saturday
but he's tough and always puts in a good
effort so I'm confident he'll run well whatever
the conditions. The wide draw isn't a concern
too, it's only a field of nine and he's won from
the outside before, Jade (Darose, jockey)
knows him so well, so bring on Saturday.
Hopefully he'll run well and push his case
for a slot in The Everest, we can continue to
dream."
Lord Bouzeron ready to rumble for FinneganFrancis Finnegan is confident Kiwi import Lord
Bouzeron (Burgundy) can hold his own against
some of the better late-season three-year-olds
when he returns to Caulfield on Saturday. The
gelding will contest the Mark Needham Handicap
(2394m) a fortnight after winning impressively on
Australian debut for Finnegan, having transferred
from his sister-in-law Chrissy Bambry’s stable in
New Zealand. Lord Bouzeron will again be ridden
by 3 kilogram-claiming apprentice Will Price, who
notched his first metropolitan win last time out.
“Will rides very well and getting three kilos off a
horse of that stature is very valuable,” Finnegan
said. “We will learn a lot more on Saturday. He is an
incredibly tough little horse. When Will got off the
other day he said he couldn’t believe how tough he
was through the line. He has obviously been well
schooled in New Zealand. When you ask him to go
he just puts his ears flat back and gallops.”
Eduardo on track for PrideSaturday's July Sprint (1100m) will be used
as a campaign springboard for former
Victorian Eduardo (Host) as he bids to
rediscover his best form under new trainer
Joe Pride. The Rosehill contest will be just
the 13th start of the rising seven-year-
old’s career, a fact not lost on the handler.
"He looks like he's running for fun," Pride
said. "He is enjoying it, his ears are pricked,
it's a bit of a game for him and generally
when they trial like that they race well."
Pride expects Eduardo to hold his own on
the weekend and hopes the race can be a
carnival starting point towards features
such as next month's Missile Stakes (Gr 2,
1200m). "I will be disappointed if I don't
see him run well because everything is
adding up to a good performance," Pride
continued. "It's a way to line him up and
hopefully launch him into the spring."

Waller to stick with Maloney for Gresham
Champion trainer Chris Waller has resisted the
temptation to use an apprentice and instead
turned to senior rider Ryan Maloney to attempt
to coax Gresham (Sebring) back to winning
form. Gresham has paid the price at the weights
for his consistency and has been allocated 60
kilograms for Saturday's TAB Long May We Play
Open Handicap (1600m). Apprentice Nick Keal
won on Gresham at the Gold Coast in May but
senior riders have had the mount in his three
subsequent runs. Waller's Gold Coast manager
Paul Shailer said Maloney was an ideal rider for
Gresham, who needed a strong hand. "Gresham
is back to his most successful distance and it
isn't the strongest open handicap," he said. "He
hasn't had much luck in some of his races or his
win rate would be better.”
Williams' Hot talent a work in progressDanny Williams regards Hot 'N' Hazy (Snitzel)
as the most talented horse to come through
his stable in ten years, but warns the colt is still
learning his craft ahead of Saturday's Sky Racing
Active Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill. The
winner of his only start at Wagga in February,
it is the colt's recent 14-length trial romp that
has prompted him to be marked as an early
favourite for Saturday and also earned him
a position as a $15 chance for October’s $1.3
million Kosciuszko (1200m), a race Williams
confirms is on their radar. "He is potentially the
best horse I have had in the last decade," the
trainer said. "But he frightens me a bit because
he's not there mentally. What you saw in the
trial is not always replicated race day."
Brando ready for starring role at DoombenTony Haydon is hoping Brando (Desert King)
can repay the patience shown by his owner
and breeder Neville Bell when he attempts
to complete back-to-back wins by taking out
the BRC Membership Handicap (2000m) at
Doomben on Saturday. The rising six-year-old
was sent to Victoria where he won a Mornington
maiden over 2000 metres, but a series of
setbacks saw him return to Queensland and the
care of Caloundra-based Haydon. The gelding's
last-start win at Eagle Farm showcased Brando's
toughness as he sat four deep at stages before
prevailing over 1800 metres. "Neville and (wife)
Mary have been patient with Brando but he
overcame difficulties to win last start and he is
racing well," Haydon said.

Ross out to clinch QTIS titleLes Ross will have three runners on
Saturday's Doomben card as he goes in
pursuit of this season's leading QTIS two-
year-old trainer title. Ross currently leads the
way with his youngsters earning just under
$250,000 in bonus payments and he is set
to be represented by Mishani Fraudster (Jet
Spur) in the Welcome Back To BRC QTIS
2YO Colts & Geldings Handicap (1200m)
plus Hancora Field (Deep Field) and Patty's
Fortune (Rich Enuff ) in the Quincy QTIS 2YO
Fillies Handicap. A win in either race should
ensure Ross finishes first with second-placed
Tony and Maddy Sears not having a runner.
Mishani Fraudster drew barrier one while
Hanora Field and Patty's Fortune drew 11
and nine respectively. "There are a couple
of promising fillies in that division and mine
both drew off the track," Ross said. "But
Hanora Field has won four races and Jackson
Murphy will claim two kilograms. Patty's
Fortune also drew wide but she is a Doomben
winner."
Thompson hands on with Criminal DefenceApprentice Adin Thompson will be out to
reap the benefits of his work in breaking in
Criminal Defence (Nicconi) when he rides
the gelding in the Welcome Back To BRC 2YO
Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.
"It isn't well known but Adin is a very good
horse breaker,” co-trainer Peter Hulbert said.
“He broke in Criminal Defence, rides him in
all of his work and looks after him around the
stables so he knows him well.” Hulbert, who
believes Criminal Defence will probably be
better as a three-year-old over longer trips,
continued: “He is showing something as a
late two-year-old and he isn't far off our good
two-year-old filly Mistress of Doom. The 1200
metres on Saturday should suit him a lot
better.”
Atlantic Jewel son set for debutEmpireofthedragon (Galileo), the unraced
first foal out of champion mare Atlantic Jewel
(Fastnet Rock) who is five years old and has
changed hands multiple times, is finally set
to debut at Swan Hill today. Now trained by
Robert Hickmott, the gelding will contest the
TAC Maiden Plate (1600m) and Hickmott is
looking forward to learning more about him off
the back of his first trip to the races. "I've only
had him for three weeks and he's done nothing
but please me since he's come into the stable,"
Hickmott told Racing.com. "He's a beautiful
horse to deal with and he's a fully-set Galileo,
so hopefully there's some upside there. The
mile first-up will be no worries for him. I'd love
him to win for the owner, because he has been
a bit of a project horse."
Humidor owners backing Waller
Connections are hoping a switch to champion
trainer Chris Waller will see dual Cox Plate (Gr
1, 2040m) placegetter Humidor (Teofilo) get
back to winning ways. The three-time Group 1
winner has failed to get his head in front since
landing the Memsie Stakes (Gr 1, 2400m) nearly
two years ago and joins Waller following three
unplaced runs for Lindsey Smith, off the back
of a winless spell in the care of Ciaron Maher
and David Eustace. "I've never met anyone
more competitive than Chris and to him this
is a real challenge,” part-owner Brae Sokolski
told Racing.com. "We haven't been able to get
the horse back to anywhere near his best since
his suspensory injury and even though he is
completely sound, the question remains, has
he still got that will and if he does, Chris will
tap into it. He'll run first-up in the Chelmsford
(Stakes) on the 5th of September and we'll try
to find the right race for him at 2000 metres
at maybe a level below to get the horse's
confidence up. But we'll know early in his prep
whether we persevere or whether it is time for
him to go off into retirement."
Calthorpe questions strangles procedureGeelong trainer Chris Calthorpe has
questioned Racing Victoria's handling of a
local outbreak of strangles after his stable was
forced into lockdown. Calthorpe temporarily
moved one of his two-year-olds into a box
at the stable of Sonny Coombes while some
renovation work was carried out. Coombes
shares a stable with Danielle Loos, whose
Naval Envoy (Smug), has tested positive
for strangles, something Calthorpe says he
was not made aware of at the time. "No one
informed me that there could be potential
strangles at the race club," Calthorpe told
Racing.com. "So I'm in lockdown because I
moved a two-year-old who has been in work
two weeks for four or five hours so they can do
some work. Officially I was informed at 3pm
on Wednesday that her horse was positive
for strangles. The way it's been handled is
an absolute disgrace. That stable should
have been locked down straight away. I'm
an innocent victim in all of this. If the proper
procedures were taken on Sunday night, we
wouldn't be in this situation now."
ATC promotes James RossAustralian Turf Club has appointed senior
racing executive James Ross to the position

RV announces whip breach penalty guideline
To avoid confusion over national whip rule
breaches, Racing Victoria has announced new
penalty guidelines for flat races. Developed
in consultation with the Victorian Jockeys'
Association, the guidelines come into effect at the
start of the new racing season on August 1 and set
out the penalties that can be imposed by stewards.
While minimums have been implemented, the
final penalties will remain at the discretion of
stewards. Higher fines and possibly lengthier
suspensions may be imposed in Group or feature
races, while penalties may also increase if a
rider has a poor record. Jamie Stier, RV's head
of integrity services, said breaches of the whip
rule had garnered much debate in recent times.
"It is important to note these guidelines reflect
the minimum starting point for considerations
on penalties to be imposed and the stewards
will ultimately deliver penalties they feel are
appropriate in all the circumstances to encourage
compliance to the rules," Stier said.
Leadership change on cards for TabcorpThe major funder of the Australian racing
industry, the publicly listed Tabcorp, will
have a change of leadership with a new
chairman of the company announced and
its long-time managing director set to retire
in what shapes as a crucial period for the
wagering and gaming group. Long-serving
chief executive David Attenborough has
signalled his intent to stand down in 2021
while incumbent chair Paula Dwyer will be
replaced by Steven Gregg when she retires
on December 31. “With the integration
of Tatts nearing completion, the time is
now right for a new chairman to lead the
Tabcorp board into the future,” Dwyer said.
“The appointment of Steven Gregg will
provide continuity of leadership and an
orderly transition as the company identifies
and transitions to a new managing director
and CEO.” Attenborough, who has been in
his current role since June 2011, will retire
in the first half of next year. A global search
will be undertaken to recruit a suitable
replacement.
Vale ‘Spike’ JonesLegendary Western Districts jockey Ray
‘Spike’ Jones, the winner of 39 Cup races
including the 1969 Orange Cup (1m 2f )
on Tom’s Gift (Duvidal), has died at the
age of 77, Racing NSW has reported.
Jones won on each of his first two rides
in an incredible start to his career as an
apprentice, which saw him ride eight
winners from his first 13 mounts during
a two-day meeting at Bathurst’s Towac
Park. He went on to win 14 premierships,
rode four winners on the same day on 14
different occasions and accumulated a
total of 1448 winners.

Avondale win for Make TimeThe Stephen McKee-trained Make
Time (Makfi) broke maiden ranks on
Wednesday with a comfortable victory
at Avondale in testing conditions. The
three-year-old gelding, who races in the
Go Racing silks for the Penrhyn Syndicate,
had been building up to the win, running
third in each of his three previous starts,
before racing was put on hold due to the
Covid-19 pandemic. “We had to ease off
him because of lockdown,” McKee said.
“He did have that fitness edge and I was
pretty sure he would go alright. I just
wasn’t sure about the race conditions
with the heavy track.” Ridden by Sam
Spratt, Make Time settled in midfield and
enjoyed a patient ride, with Spratt starting
to weave through runners with 600 metres
to go. Once clear coming out of the turn,
Make Time accelerated to win by two and
a quarter lengths.

Notabad day for Kiwi ownersAn association that was struck almost 40
years ago between trans-Tasman trainers
was once again to the fore on Wednesday.
Randwick trainers Jim and Greg Lee and
former New Zealand trainer Chris Faulkner
have enjoyed plenty of success over the
years and the partnership struck again when
Notabadidea (Highly Recommended) and
Notabadharada (Haradasun) finished first
and third in a Benchmark-70 handicap over
1550 metres at Canterbury. Notabadidea
pleased his connections with the win and
they believe he has a bright future in the
staying ranks. “He is very versatile and he is
coming good. He is a dead-set stayer,” Greg
Lee said. “He had his first attempt over 2600
metres (last start) and I think he was a bit
unlucky not to have run in the first three.
I think he is going to make a stayer of the
future.”

Seven for TerritoriesDarley shuttler Territories (Invincible Spirit)
sired his seventh individual first-crop winner
when Regional (2 c ex Favulusa by Dansili)
quickened clear for a promising debut win
in a maiden over five furlongs at Pontefract
yesterday. The Richard Fahey-trained colt
beat Politics (Muhaarar) by a length and
three quarters with favourite Zaman Jameel
(Shamardal) another neck away in third. A
120,0000 gns purchase as a yearling, Regional
is out of the Dansili (Danehill) mare Favulusa,
a Listed winner in Italy, and half-sister to
Italian Oaks (Gr 2, 1m 3f ) winner Folega
(Oasis Dream). Group 1 winner Territories
stands at Darley’s Kelvinside property in the
Hunter Valley for a fee of $11,000 (inc GST)
in 2020.
67 for Sea The StarsGilltown Stud resident Sea The Stars (Cape
Cross) sired his 67th individual stakes winner
when Valia (3 f ex Veda by Dansili) got the
better of her more experienced rivals to
take out yesterday’s Prix de Thiberville at
Longchamp (Listed, 2400m). Having just
her second start, the Alain de Royer-Dupre-
trained three-year-old beat British raider
Wonderful Tonight (Le Havre) by two and a
half lengths, with Padovana (Sea The Moon)
another neck back in third. Royer-Dupre
has high hopes for the filly, who is the first
foal out of French 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m)
runner-up Veda (Dansili), with a tilt at the
Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) now
on her horizon. Sea The Stars stood for a fee
of €150,000 in 2020.
Vision edges it to double stakes tallyFour-year-old Dark Vision (Dream Ahead),
winner of the Hunt Cup (1m) at this year’s
Royal Ascot, registered his first stakes success
since his juvenile days when edging out
Beringer (Sea The Stars) in a tight finish to
the Pomfret Stakes (Listed, 1m) at Pontefract
yesterday. Trained by Mark Johnston, the
Godolphin-raced colt scored by a neck, with
Foxtrot Lady (Foxwedge) another length and
three-quarters away in third. The winner
of the Vintage Stakes (Gr 2, 7f ) at Glorious
Goodwood in 2018, Dark Vision has now won
five of his 19 starts.
Bolleville strikes on debut for O’BrienFrench import Bolleville (Camelot) made a
successful debut for Joseph O’Brien to make
it four wins in seven starts when nabbing the
Silver Stakes (Listed, 1m 2f ) at Leopardstown
yesterday. Already a Listed winner when in
the care of Pascal Bary, the four-year-old got
her Irish career off to the best possible start
with a length win over Simsir (Zoffany), with
Keats (Galileo) a further length and three-
quarters away in third.
Starspangled Ballyogan win for MillisleStarspangledbanner (Choisir) filly Millisle (3
f ex Green Castle by Indian Ridge) returned
to the winner’s stall for the first time since
taking out the Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1,
6f ) last year, in the Ballyogan Stakes (Gr
3, 6f ) at Naas on Wednesday. Trained by
Jessica Harrington, the filly scooted home
by four lengths ahead of Pronouncement
(Declaration Of War) in second, with Lady
Penelope (Night Of Thunder) a further two
and a half lengths away in third. Millisle is
one of 14 stakes winners for Rosemont Stud
shuttler Starspangledbanner, who will stand
at the Victorian farm for a fee of $19,800 (inc
GST) in 2020.
Enable faces O’Brien three in King George
Enable (Nathaniel) will face three rivals in
her bid to make history as the first horse
ever to win tomorrow’s King George VI and
Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 1m 4f ) three
times at Ascot. Frankie Dettori will once
again be aboard Enable, with the jockey
set to partner the six-year-old for the 15th
consecutive time. Standing between Enable
and history is a three-pronged team from
Aidan O'Brien, headlined by last year's
Juddmonte International Stakes (Gr 1, 1m 2f )
winner Japan (Galileo). Ryan Moore will once
again partner Japan, having ridden him on
his last six racecourse appearances. O'Brien's
other two runners are 2019 Classic winners
Anthony Van Dyck (Galileo) and Sovereign
(Galileo).

Defence), winners of the English and Irish
2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) respectively, are
in line to take on Queen Anne Stakes winner

James Cummings secured his first classic
starter for the spring last Saturday when
Alcyone (Teofilo) broke his maiden
in the Byerley Handicap (1800m) at
Flemington and earned himself a ticket straight
into the VRC Derby (Gr 1, 2500m).
The two-year-old son of Teofilo (Galileo),
who finished second in the Taj Rossi Series Final
(Listed, 1600m) at his previous start, settled well
in fourth place, one out and one back, before John
Allen asked him to improve nearing the turn.
The colt took the lead at approaching the
200-metre mark and he held off challengers
to score by three-quarters of a length ahead
of Johnny Get Angry (Tavistock), with Shadow
Prey (Crackerjack King) a further half-length
away in third.
"He travelled well," Allen said after the race.
"I had the front two covered and I didn't want
to get to the front too soon because he's a bit
lairy and he just had a look around when he got
there.
"I felt he waited for them a bit and even
though he didn't win by a big margin, I felt like I
had a bit left, to be honest."
Bred by Godolphin Australia, Alcyone
is the fourth foal to race out of Storm Queen
Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) and Queensland Oaks (Gr
1, 2400m) winner Purple (Commands), who
is also responsible for Fernhill Stakes (Listed,
1600m) runner-up Toga Picta (Lonhro).
Purple’s dam, city-winning mare Lady Viola
(Zabeel), is a three-quarter sister to Sinjani (Sir
Tristram), the dam of Chairman’s Handicap
(Gr 2, 2600m) scorer Fooram (Maroof), and a
half-sister to Canterbury Cup (Gr 3, 1900m)
and Lord Mayor’s Cup (Listed, 2400m) victor
Estimable (Balmerino). Further back, this is
also the family of multiple Singapore black-type
placegetter Powerful Ruler (Viking Ruler).
Darley stallion Teofilo shuttled to
Australia for six years between 2009 and 2013
and 2016 and 2017 and covered 577 mares,
resulting in 342 foals. He is now represented
at stud down under by his sons Palentino,
who stands at Sun Stud for $14,300 (inc GST)
in 2020, and Kermadac, who resides at Darley
Kelvinside with his fee set at $13,750 (inc
GST) this season.
Teofilo now permanently resides at Darley’s
Kildangan Stud, where he stood for a fee of
€40,000 in 2020.
