Timothy Learned About God
Bible Passage: Acts 16:1-3;2 Timothy 1:1-5; 3:14-17
Key Bible VerseSince you were a child, you have learned from the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:15
Life ApplicationI can discover ways my family learns about God.
Level of Biblical Learning (Family) God wants families to worship together.
From a human perspective, who is the most influential person in your spiritual journey? While many people can impact a child's life, typically his first and most influential teachers are his parents and grandparents. How did your parents or grandparents influence your spiritual journey?• Examine the life of Timothy. He was the son of
a Jewish Christian woman and a Greek father, yet Timothy believed in Jesus Christ. When Paul went to Lystra, the people there spoke so highly of Timothy that Paul took him along on one of his missionary journeys (Acts 16:2-3). The two men became fast friends and often traveled together.
• Read 2 Timothy 1:1-5. What spiritual lessons do you recall from your childhood? How much of what you know about the Bible is based on what you learned as a child?
• Read 2 Timothy 3:14-17. Paul reminded Timothy to do the things he had learned. Timothy did not learn the truth from strangers, but from people close to him who lived out their beliefs. Timothy's personal knowledge of his teachers assured him of the reliability of the things he learned. The content of the teaching was important, but so was the character of those teaching him.
• Consider the role you play as a leader. In what ways do you help children discover the Bible's message? How do you help preschoolers hear the message of the Bible? How do you help them know and understand the message? Do the preschoolers apply what you teach to their lives?
• Pray for each child in your ministry by name. Ask God to help each child understand and apply what you teach.

Teacher TipSet up 3 stations in front of the group, so the teacher can move to each station as he tells the story.
• Say: [Move to Station 1. Call attention to the suitcase.] "I need volunteers to help me. [Select nine volunteers to remove the words and picture from the suitcase.] We will hear these words or names during our Bible story. [Display the words and picture.] Listen for how each is used."
Timothy Learned About GodBased on Acts 16:1-3; 2 Timothy 1:1-5; 3:14-17
[Stay at Station 1.] Paul was a missionary who traveled to different towns and cities telling people about Jesus. One day, Paul met a young man named Timothy. Paul heard people say many good things about Timothy. The people said Timothy loved God and Jesus. Paul asked Timothy to help him tell people about Jesus.
[Move to Station 2. "Paul" and "Timothy" are frozen in place. They "come alive" when introduced.] Paul and Timothy traveled many places together. They talked to many people, telling them about God and Jesus. They helped start new churches. Timothy was Paul's helper and friend. After a while, Timothy needed to return to his home. ["Timothy" waves and moves to Station 3.]
[Move to Station 3.] After returning home, Timothy received a letter from Paul. Let's listen to what Paul told him. ["Timothy" reads aloud letter.]
"Dear Timothy, I am praying for you. I wish I could see you again. I remember how much you love God, and I know how you want to tell people about Jesus. Since you were a child, you have learned from the Bible. Your mother, Eunice (YOO niss), and your grandmother, Lois, taught you about God. The Bible is an important book. It will help you understand and learn more about God and Jesus. Timothy, keep doing the things you know are right. I hope to see you again soon. Your friend, Paul."

Pull It TogetherBibles• Create a fourth station with Bibles and pictures.
• Say: [Move to Station 4.] "At this station we have several Bibles. [Invite the children to touch and examine the Bibles.] Paul told Timothy the Bible is an important book. Timothy learned about the Bible when he was a little boy. His mother and grandmother taught him about God and Jesus. God wants people in our families to teach us about the things in the Bible. Everything the Bible says is from God. The Bible tells us what God wants us to do.
Paul told Timothy the Bible teaches us how to live and make right choices. The Bible was not just for Timothy, it is for everyone."
10aMake Life Application (3 minutes)• Ask: "How did Timothy learn about God?"• Continue: "How do you learn about God? We
