3. (Type 3) Do not install the unit into a dusty envi-ronment. Dust may affect and degrade a Sensor’s performance.
INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
The following precautions should be observed when handling and installing a VEGA Unit:
1. This equipment is not fully warranted for outdoor use. Be sure the Host Machine contains enough protection to avoid wet or dusty conditions when installing it in both open-air and indoor spaces.
2. Be sure the Host Machine is designed with careful consideration for retrieving a Banknote and/or clearing a Banknote jam.
3. Be careful not to use excessive outside pressure on the Mounting Plate when removing the Cash Box from the Unit.
4. Avoid exposing the Banknote Insertion Slot to direct Sunlight and/or Incandescent Lamp ill-umination having a Gradient Angle of 15 Degrees or more, and an illumination index of 3000 Lux or less. Insure that the Host Machine is also designed to avoid exposing the Banknote Insertion Slot to direct Sunlight or incandescent light contact.
5. Do not allow the Validator to endure a range of temperature and humidity beyond the environ-mental limits specified (See “Environmental Specifications” on page 1-6 of this Section).
6. Do not use the Validator when placed in severe Temperature changing environments.
7. Do not use the Validator in a place having air born evaporated or sporadic chemicals.
8. Clean and maintain the Validator regularly when located in an excessively smoke filled environ-ment.
USER PRECAUTIONS
The following User precautions should be observed when installing, operating and servicing the Unit:
1. When closing the Upper portion of the Transport path or the Course Path Reversing Guide Cover, ensure that it clicks firmly into place.

General Information VEGA™ Series BankNote Validator Section 1
2. If the Banknote Validation Section is dirty due to dust, foreign objects or other such debris adher-ing to it, Banknote acceptance rate will degrade. Clean the VEGA Unit once a month to keep its performance stable.
3. Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swabs to carefully remove dirt on the Sensors and to remove any Paper powder dust adhering to the Rollers.
4. Do not redesign or disassemble the VEGA Vali-dator. Unauthorized use by inadequately trained personnel, or use outside the original manufac-turer’s intent for operation voids the warranty.
CASH BOX HANDLING
Observe the following precautions when handling a Cash Box:
1. If the Cash Box does not securely mount in place, have Security Management solve the problem.
2. Do not strike or drop the Cash Box to the ground; this may cause it to incure remounting damage.
Mounting & Dismounting the UnitObserve the following precautions when mounting ans dismounting the Unit:
1. Be sure to turn the Power OFF before mounting or removing the VEGA Unit from its permanent location.
2. Plugging or unplugging connector receptacles while the Power is ON may cause damage to the Unit.
3. If transporting the VEGA Unit without a Cash Box, its Frame’s shape may become bent in the process. Always install a Cash Box into the VEGA Unit when transporting it.
Placing Foreign Objects into the UnitObserve the following precautions when placing foreign objects into the Unit:
1. Do not insert anything except Banknotes into the Insertion Slot. Inserting Receipts, Stapled Tick-ets, Rubber Bands, or Credit Cards into the Unit may damage the Banknote Transport path.
2. Do not inject liquids into the Banknote Insertion Slot. Injecting water, oil or cleaning agents may damage the Sensors’ within the Banknote Trans-port path.
Unacceptable BanknotesThe following Banknote types may not validate correctly, or can cause a Banknote jam and/or dam-age to the Unit’s Transport path. Banknotes exhib-iting the following conditions should be avoided (See Figure 1-3 ):
• Torn• Having excessive folds• Dirty• Wet• Having excessive wrinkles• Adhering foreign objects and/or oil.
WARNING: Under no circumstances allow a cleaning cloth to be wet enough to allow excess fluid to run into the device; internal printed circuit boards may be damaged. Do not use any alcohol, citrus based cleaners, solvents or scouring agents that can damage the plastic surfaces of the device.
WARNING: Do not inject water or liquid agents of any kind into the Validator; as this may cause extreme damage to the Unit.

VEGA™ SeriesBankNote Validator
A p p e n d i x A
This section provides Troubleshooting instructions for the VEGA BankNote Validator. The following information is contained in this Section:
• Introduction
• Troubleshooting Overview
• Fault Table Listings
• Performance Tests
• LED Diagnostic Codes
IntroductionMost Validator failures are due to minor causes. Before replacing any parts, make sure that all Assembly and Circuit Board Connectors are prop-erly fitted, and the Harness is properly connected.
Faulty Banknote acceptance by the Validator por-tion of the VEGA is often caused when dust or Iron powder adheres to the Identification Sensor, Mag-netic Sensor or Transport Belt. Clean the Acceptor Section first, then observe the operating state of the Acceptor in detail when re-initializing power. This observation is important in locating any failure causes and the possible fault area. If the Acceptor Head has to be repaired by disassembling it, always re-calibrate the Sensors following a repair. Perform all repairs by referring to theCalibration Procedures in Section 6 of this Service Manual, andDissassembly/Reassembly in Section 4 of this Service Manual.
Troubleshooting OverviewThe VEGA allows the operator to perform fault diagnosis by checking various fault Table listings against the symptom, and survey the cause(s) of any failure occurrences during the process.
After determining the cause of the failure, execute the particular Performance Test, perform a Sensor re-adjustment and then repair the VEGA Unit by replacing any appropriate parts deemed necessary.
Fault Table ListingsTable A-1 through Table A-3 list the various possible VEGA fault conditions that can occur and the necessary actions required to correct them.
Malfunction LED Error CodeThe VEGA Unit’s Front Panel Bezel LEDs will be flashing when errors or Banknote rejects occur. Table A-1, Table A-2 and Table A-3 list the pos-sible Malfunction LED Error Codes that are ident-ified by various LED flash counts and Colors. When Error Codes and Reject Codes are not indicated (e.g., VEGA’s Bezel LEDs are not lit) or not identified in detail, find the cause in the follow-ing Tables and take the appropriate action.

Appendix A VEGA™ SeriesBankNote Validator Troubleshooting
Error and Reject CodesThe flash rate is different between Error Codes and Reject Codes. Long term blink rates (300msec) indicate an Error Code situation, and a short term flashing (120msec) condition indicates a Reject Code situation. These Error and Reject Code patterns also indicate differently when On-line (e.g., communicating with the Host Machine) versus Off-line (e.g., when
performing an Off-line Banknote Acceptance Test during a Performance Test operation).
The user may be confused if the flashing patterns are complicated while On-line; so On-line Patterns are made simpler than Off-line Patterns when performing test functions. However, Off-line Patterns can indicate more complicated situations in order to identify the detailed cause of a specific error condition.

B GLOSSARY
A
1 Anti-stringing Mechanism –a mechanism (optical, mechanical, or a combination of both) designed to prevent the unauthorized retrieving of Banknotes from a Cash Box… See Page 1-6
B
2 Bezel – a removable Plastic Assembly attached to the front of the Banknote Insertion Slot on a VEGA Unit. It features a rectangular shaped access opening (slot) for easy insertion and retrieval of Banknotes. Bezels are available in different shapes and sizes in order to accommodate Banknotes of different widths and different stacking configurations… See Page 1-4
C
3 Calibration – a process performed on electronic equipment which ensures that all circuits are properly aligned and operating at optimum levels. For VEGA, calibration is accomplished using a software based program which checks and sets the operational reference levels for Intake Sensors, Validation Sensors, and Edge Sensors. This helps to ensure that the Unit operates with the highest Banknote acceptance rate possible. Calibration is recommended whenever the CPU Board, or one of the Sensor Boards are replaced… See Page 6-14 ccTalk – a Serial based Communications Protocol commonly used in control, electronic payment, and vending systems. Developed by Money Controls Ltd., the format enjoys widespread use throughout Europe. ccTalk is a supported communications format in the VEGA Unit… See Page 6-125 Claw Hooks – specially molded tensioned Plastic Clips used to protect and retain the left and right side Cable Harnesses on the Upper Assembly Section of the VEGA Unit… See Page 4-16 Course Path Reversing Guide – a moveable guide located at the rear Section of the Banknote Transport Path in a VEGA Unit which allows Banknotes to be directed down to the VEGA Cash Box, up to the optional VEGA RC Recycler, or back to the customer as part of change-returning or recycling operations. The removable Course Path Reversing Guide Cover contains optical Lenses which help the VEGA Unit determine if any Banknotes or debris are stuck in the transport area path… See Page 1-47 CRC Checksum – a numerical value assigned to a data file or block of data (usually expressed in hexadecimal notation). Checksum values are used to verify that the contents of a data file are not corrupted in any way during trans- mission or encryption. The Checksum values of both the original and duplicate files are compared to each other. If the values match, then the duplicate file is considered to be acceptable. In instances where the
