About UTask-Web
The University of Tokyo College of Arts and Sciences (Junior Division) uses the UTask-Web system for all procedures
related to registering for courses, checking class cancellations and supplementary classes, checking grades, and registration
of preferences for Senior Division Admissions, etc.
This manual is for use by students in the Junior Division (1st and 2nd years). When using the system please comply with the
Information Ethics Guidelines issued upon enrollment, taking particular care to safeguard your user ID, password, and
PIN.
This manual contains usage instructions for UTask-Web, so please read it carefully before completing course registration
procedures, etc.
Please remember to check the registration details you enter, since some items cannot be changed once registration has been
completed.

Web Browser Settings for Using UTask-Web
You will need the following web browser settings to use UTask-Web.
(If the default settings have not been altered, there will be no need to change your settings)
• Enable cookies
• Enable Java script
• Enable META REFRESH
Below are instructions for adopting these settings on major web browsers (Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3 and
Mozilla for Windows, and Safari for Mac).
Windows [Applies to both Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8 (IE7/8)]
• Enabling cookies
1) On the IE menu bar, click Tools, then Internet Options. Select the Privacy tab and the screen below will appear. Click
Advanced.
2) Confirm that the Override automatic cookie handling box is unchecked and click OK (see screen below).

• Enabling Java Script and META REFRESH
1) Click Tools, then Internet Options. Select the Security tab and the screen below will appear. Click Custom level.
2) Scroll down to Active scripting and Allow META REFRESH , ensure that the Enable option is selected for both these items,
and click OK .

● Pop-up Settings IE7/8 allow tabbed browsing, but the usability of UTask-Web may be affected if you use the function that enables pop-up screens
to be displayed on a separate tab, so you will need to check your tabbed browsing settings.
Below is the Internet Options screen for IE7 (IE8 is the same). Under General, look for the Tabs section and click Settings. The
Tabbed Browsing Settings screen shown on the right below will appear.
To make UTask-Web more user-friendly, the system uses pop-up screens such as the timetable search screen displayed when
registering for a course. If you select Always open pop-ups in a new window on the screen above, pop-ups will be displayed in a
separate window, as in earlier versions of Internet Explorer. Conversely, if you select Always open pop-ups in a new tab,
pop-ups cannot be displayed in a separate window. Taking the example of the timetable search function mentioned above, if you
click on an option in a timetable displayed in a new tab, the screen will not be automatically replaced by the original screen. It
would still be possible to register for a course in that case and you can see that the code has been automatically transferred by
choosing the tab displaying the timetable overview on the original screen, but since this would make the system less user-friendly
we strongly recommend using the prescribed settings for IE7/8 (i.e., Always open pop-ups in a new window). Tab browsing has
the advantage of avoiding the need to search for web pages again by displaying multiple pages simultaneously, but when using
UTask-Web, please view in a single tab without displaying links in other tabs.

1) Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Double-click the Privacy & Security category, choose Cookies and the screen
below will appear. Select Enable cookies based on privacy settings and click Display.
2) Check that the privacy level is set at Medium and click OK .

1) Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Double-click Details and click Scripts and Plug-ins. The screen below will
appear. Select Navigator and confirm that all the script-enabling boxes are checked before clicking OK .

Please enter the same user ID and password you use for the Education Campuswide Computing System (ECCS).
Please use the 4-digit PIN issued at enrollment.
Your password can be changed on ECCS. The new password will be valid from 6:00 a.m. the following day. Please use the old password to log in on the day you make the change.
For inquiries about user IDs and passwords, please contact1st floor system Reception, Information Education Building.
For security reasons, your session will automatically time-out if no action is taken on a screen for 30 minutes. Data entered before the time-out will not be saved unless it was already registered. Please do not leave your computer unattended while logged in or open UTask-Web on multiple screens, as this will cause time-outs or mistakes in registration and may lead to leakage of personal data.

Log Out
Outline Log out of the system when you have finished using it.

Instructions

the top-right of the screen to close the browser.
If you leave the browser open, there is a risk that data saved in the
browser cache could be displayed, making your personal information
visible to others.
(2) If you want to use the system again, click the "Log in again" button.

On-screen Messages Message There are four types of messages: error messages, query icon, warning icon, and information icon.
(1) Error messages
The error message, details of the error, an OK button and a contact for inquiries will appear. Please confirm the
details of the error and click OK . Please check that you have not made a mistake when entering data. If the error
message still appears after you have re-entered the data, please contact the person or department shown in the
message.
(2) Query icon
Yes and No buttons will appear. Read the message and select the appropriate answer.
(3) Warning icon
An OK button will appear. Read the warning and click OK .
(4) Information icon
An OK button will appear. Read the information and click OK .

View Academic Calendar / Submission Deadlines
Outline
Displays schedule for academic calendar / submission deadlines. The default screen shows one month before and three months after the current date. The period displayed can be lengthened or shortened by entering the appropriate dates.

(2) If you do not know your postcode, please click on “ 郵便番号検索郵便番号検索郵便番号検索郵便番号検索 [Search for Postal Code]” to open a help screen.
Enter your address including the name of the city and town (-cho/machi), but do not include your house/apartment
number. The results of the postcode search will be reflected in the “ 郵便番号郵便番号郵便番号郵便番号 [Postal Code],” “都道府県都道府県都道府県都道府県 [Prefecture],”

Instructions
1. Registering for regular courses
(1) In the timetable displayed on the “ 履修登録履修登録履修登録履修登録 [Course Registration]” screen 1 (timetable overview), please click on “ 未登録未登録未登録未登録
[Unregistered]” or “ 集中講義集中講義集中講義集中講義などをなどをなどをなどを登録登録登録登録 [Register for intensive courses].” A list of courses will appear.
(2) Click on the course title shown in “ 授業授業授業授業科目名科目名科目名科目名 [Course Title]” field on this list of courses to register for the course, and it
will appear on the timetable overview. Note that the following course registration error message will be displayed if you
click on a course you are not eligible to register for (e.g., a course you have already completed).

2. Registering for biweekly courses (1) On the timetable overview (screen 1), please click “ 隔週講義隔週講義隔週講義隔週講義などをなどをなどをなどを登録登録登録登録 [Register for biweekly courses].” The following
"Search for Courses" screen will appear.
(2) Please enter your search parameters and click “ 検索開始検索開始検索開始検索開始 [Search].” Search results will appear on a list of courses; please
register as in “1. Register for regular courses”.
3. Deleting registration details (1) Please click on any course you wish to delete from the timetable overview (screen 1). The following "Cancel Registration"
screen will appear.
(2) If you click “ 削除削除削除削除 [Cancel Registration],” the item will be deleted from the timetable overview. If you make a mistake in
selecting the item to be deleted, click “ キャンセルキャンセルキャンセルキャンセル [Keep Registration]” and you will return to the timetable overview.
4. Making a copy of your course registration If you click “ 履修科目控出力履修科目控出力履修科目控出力履修科目控出力 [Create PDF]” at the bottom left of course registration screen 1, a copy of your course
registration will be displayed in PDF file. Once the timetable you register for is confirmed (in yellow: see Legend), please
ensure to make a copy of your course registration.
5. Completing registration When you have completed your course registration on course registration screen 1, please click “ 登録完了登録完了登録完了登録完了[Complete].” A
registration completion screen will appear to indicate that the process has been completed. Click “ 戻戻戻戻るるるる[Back]” if you wish to
return to course registration screen 1.

Register Your Preference
Outline
� During the registration period, register or delete your preference for the courses requiring registration of preferences.
� Your preference data can also be viewed outside the registration period.

appear if you attempt to register for a course you are not eligible for (e.g., a course you have already completed.)

following deletion confirmation screen will appear.

● If you have failed a course or been marked absent, you may request grade confirmation during the grade confirmation period.
● You may also request grade confirmation if a mistake has clearly been made in your grade, for example if you received an A
grade even though you were absent from the end-of-semester exam. In such cases, please obtain an application form from the
Academic Affairs Division and submit it directly to the Division.
● The results of a confirmation by the instructor can be viewed on the system.
