Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the Global exchange programme, you must be enrolled as a Bachelor or Master student at the University of Luxembourg and must be in good standing with a minimum grade average of 12. If you are a Bachelor student, you must have successfully finished at least one semester at the University of Luxembourg at the time of applying.
You must also have good knowledge of the language of instruction at the partner university you would like to apply to. Most English-speaking universities will ask for a TOEFL or equivalent language test.
Some host universities also have additional requirements, such as minimum average grades.
Funding
As a Bachelor student, you can obtain a substantial financial aid for a mobility period within the Global exchange programme through the University of Luxembourg’s mobility fund.
In addition, Bachelor students who have been accepted for a mobility semester at a partner university in the United States can also benefit from the U.S. Embassy – U.S. Enterprise Scholarship. This scholarship is offered by the Embassy of the United States in Luxembourg together with American companies present in Luxembourg. It consists of a contribution of 4000€ to study for one semester in the United States. If you apply for an exchange place at one of the University’s partner universities in the US and are a citizen of the EU, you are automatically considered for this scholarship. Preference will be given to citizens of Luxembourg and students from the Greater Region.
Bachelor and Master students selected for the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in Israel and Master students selected for the National Research University - Higher School of Economics and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in Russia may benefit from a grant by the European Commission within the framework of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility, within the limits of available places and funds. This grant consists in a monthly allowance of 650€ as well as travel allowance of 530€ for Israel and 360€ for Russia.

How to apply
Information meetings about the Global exchange programme take place every year in autumn. After the meetings, the link to the application form will be sent to you by the Mobility office. In order to apply, please submit your online application by 5th November 2018 including the following documents:
y Copy of student card y Copy of passport y Transcript of records y Motivation letter (in the language of instruction of the university of your first choice)
y Curriculum vitae
In the application form, you can indicate up to three host universities in order of preference.
Next steps
A pre-selection will be made on the basis of the application documents you have submitted. If you pass this first step, you will be invited to a personal interview. If the selection committee decides to give you the opportunity to study abroad within the Global exchange programme, you will be allocated a place at one of the University of Luxembourg’s partner universities you indicated in your application form. Generally, the selection committee tries to give priority to your first choice, but you might also be selected for a university you indicated as second or third choice.
The second step is the application at your host university. The Mobility office will contact you in due time to inform you about the application procedure and deadline depending on the host university.
You should be aware that although you have been selected by the University of Luxembourg for a place within the Global exchange programme, the final decision regarding your admission always lies with the host university.
If you apply in November 2018, your mobility period will take place during the winter semester 2019-2020. The duration is always of one semester.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I apply if I am currently in my first semester of a Bachelor programme at the University of Luxembourg?
No, you cannot apply if you are in your first semester, as the Global exchange programme is a merit-based programme and as it is not possible to assess your academic standing before you have obtained any results at the University of Luxembourg. It is recommended to apply to the Global exchange programme in your third semester to go abroad in the fifth semester of your studies.
For students of the Bachelor en Psychologie, Bachelor en Sciences Sociales et Educatives, Bachelor en Sciences de l’Education, Bachelor in Computer Science and Bachelor en Informatique it is also possible to apply in the second semester for a study abroad period in their fourth semester. However, the places available in the summer semester are more limited.
Can I apply if I am a Master student in my last year of studies?
No, this is not possible, as the University of Luxembourg must have certainty at the time of application that you will be a student with us during your mobility. Extensions of your study time for the purpose of going on mobility are not allowed. Exceptions are however possible for Master students in Law willing to pursue a second LLM at the University of Luxembourg. For further information, please contact [email protected].
Can I apply at the same time for a place within the Global exchange programme and within the Erasmus+ programme?
If you have been selected for a place within the Global exchange programme, you cannot apply for a place within the Erasmus+ programme in the same semester. However, it is possible to do an Erasmus exchange before going on mobility within the Global exchange programme. You can for instance do an Erasmus exchange in your third and fourth semester and an exchange within the framework of the Global exchange programme in your fifth semester.
24
In case your application within the Global exchange programme was rejected by the host university, the University of Luxembourg would of course do its best to offer you an alternative.
Please note also that if you cancel or refuse a Global Exchange spot that has been allocated to you, you will neither be eligible for the Erasmus Programme nor for any funding managed by the University of Luxembourg (Erasmus grant and mobility fund) for the relevant academic year.
Can I get a grant from the mobility fund if I am a Master student?
No, the mobility fund is reserved for Bachelor students only. This fund has been created to help Bachelor students finance their mandatory mobility term and the enrolment fees for first-year Bachelor students have been raised in order to supply the mobility fund. These funds can therefore not be transferred to another study level.
What should my motivation letter contain?
In your motivation letter, you should explain why you would like to study abroad within the Global exchange programme and why you would be a good ambassador for the University of Luxembourg. You should also motivate the choice of your host institution(s).
How can I find out whether the host university I am interested in offers the right courses for me?
The main source of information is the website of the host university. Please check it carefully to find out which courses are on offer for exchange students during the semester of your choice and which language they are taught in. Once you have this information, you should make an appointment with your course director or, with the Student mobility specialist at your faculty (Ms. Stephanie Anderson for FDEF or Ms. Nathalie Charpentier for FLSHASE) to discuss your choice of courses.
25
Can I choose less than three host universities when applying?
If you would only like to study at one specific university and are not interested in the other options, you are free to choose only this institution. You should be aware however that indicating several choices increases your chances of being selected. If you have only chosen one host university and have not been allocated a place there, no other options will be offered to you.
What is International Credit Mobility?
International Credit Mobility is a new part of the Erasmus+ programme that allows for student exchanges with partner universities outside the European Union. The programme is funded by the European Commission and selected students obtain a financial contribution, which consists in a travel grant as well as a monthly subsistence allowance. For the academic year 2019-2020, the University of Luxembourg only has few grants to offer to outgoing students and they are reserved for Bachelor and Master students selected to attend the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in Israel or Master students selected to attend the National Research University – Higher School of Economics and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in Russia.
