The Governmentoffersfinancialsupportfor students resident inEnglandvia the range of loans,grants, scholarships and bursaries
detailedbelow. Students residentin Wales,Northern Ireland andScotlandhave a different rangeoffinancialpackagesopen to them,so check thewebsites detailedonpage14 for the latest details.
LOANSThe Government offers two types of loans,
oneto covertuitionfees,theother tocover
livingor maintenance costs. Bothof these
loanshaveto bepaid back once youhave
graduated, but youwont haveto startyourrepayments until youare earning
over 21,000.
Tuition Fees LoanAs a Home/EU student, the government
will lend youthemoney tocover your tuition
fees foryourfirstdegree,so youdo not have
topay your tuition fees inadvanceor during
yourtime at university.
Ifyou take outthisloan, then the
Government(through theStudentLoan
Company) paysthe tuition feesdirectlyto
theUniversity. You onlystart to repay the
loanwhen youhave graduated,and onlythenwhen youare earning over21,000
(seepage10 forfurther detailson repayment).
Ifyou havenot repaidtheloan30 years
after youhave leftthe University, then
anyremainingdebtwill bewrittenoff.

StudentLoan for MaintenanceAs well as the tuition fee loan, you are eligible
fora loan tohelpwithmaintenancecosts(ie livingcostssuch as accommodation,
travel, food etc).Thisloanis paid in three
instalments,directly intoyour bankaccount.
The exact amount available to you
depends on:
your household income (ie howmuch your
parentsor supporters earn). All students
areentitledto 65%of themaintenance
loan, theadditional 35%being dependent
on yourhousehold income (means-tested)
whether ornot youintendlivingat home
asa student
whether youwillbe studying abroadaspartof yourprogramme
whetheryou arestudyingfor a programme

national scholarships to help Englishstudents
fromlow income backgrounds. These
national scholarships formpart of the
Universitys Liverpool Bursary detailed

DisabledstudentsStudents withdisabilities maybe entitled to
a DisabledStudentsAllowanceto helpyou
withthecostsof studying your programme.

THE LIVERPOOLBURSARYAround a third of the Universitys students
will benefit fromthe LiverpoolBursary,
dependingon theirhousehold income.
Household income under25,000Ifyouarea UKstudent living inEngland
whose household incomeis lessthan
25,000 youwill be eligiblefor a Liverpool
Bursaryof 3,000(3,000fee waiver or
2,000fee waiver plus1,000 cashbursary)
in thefirstyear ofstudy, and2,000 for
subsequent years.
Ifyouarea UKstudent living outsideofEnglandwhosehousehold incomeis less
than 25,000 youwill be eligiblefor a
Liverpool Bursaryof 2,000in each
yearof study.
Household incomebetween25,001 35,000If youare a UKstudent whose household
incomeis between25,001and 35,000
youwill be eligiblefor a Liverpool Bursary
of1,000foreach year ofstudy.
The LiverpoolBursary can be takenas

SPORTSSCHOLARSHIPSThe Sport Liverpool Scholarship Scheme is
designed to helptalentedathletes combine
excellencein academic studyand sporting
performance by offeringthe flexibility
andsupport required to compete at the
highest level.
Scholarshipsof upto 3,000 perannum are
available to thevery beststudentathletesin
anysportingdisciplinewho arecompeting
at a Junior,Under 21, or Senior International
level,or whoarepartof a NationalGoverning
Body Performance Pathway.

Studentson thefour yearGraduateEntrymedical anddental programmes will have
toself-fund their first year tuition fees tothe
valueof 3,375.
In theirsecond,third andfourth year, the
Departmentof Health will coverthis 3,375
contribution.Tuition fee loans to cover the
remaining5,625will be available in allyearsof study.
NHSSTUDENT GRANTSThis new package of support will provide
newstudentswith a smallnon-means-
tested grant, a means-tested bursary and a
reduced ratenon-means-tested loan.From
September2012,all neweligible students
willbe eligible fora 1,000grant.Theywill
alsobe eligible for a means-testedbursary
and a maintenance loan. Differentrates of
means-tested bursary andloan will apply
accordingto where a student livesand
studies, whether in London,outsideofLondon,or withtheir parents.
The following tables show typical support
available to studentson a 30-weekcourse
or a 45-weekcourse.
