ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
Netaji Subhas Open University was established as StateOpen University in 1997 by an Act of West Bengal StateLegislative Assembly and is recognized by the UGC–Distance Education Bureau (DEB) since its inception. Theuniversity has now emerged as major leader of open anddistance education in India and has drawn national andinternational visibility due to its phenomenal growth. TheUniversity has clocked about 2,85,000 learners till date.NSOU provides quality higher education in flexible mode toserve the aim of establishing an equitable knowledge societywithin the state.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL
The School of Professional Studies was established bytrifurcating the erstwhile School of Humanities and SocialSciences as per clause 15.(1) Netaji Subhas OpenUniversity 1 Statute (Revised) 2014 vide MemoNo.Reg/1010 dated 5 June 2015. The establishment of theSchool of Professional Studies (SPS) reflects a holistic andpragmatic approach of the University towards theprofessional education in the modern era. The Schoolconducts BDP and PG Courses on Commerce, Social Workand Library & Information Science.The University is providing vocational and non-conventionalcourses through the School of Vocational Studies so that thelearners can engage themselves in income-generatinglivelihood. In the globalised era the Indian economy is one ofthe fastest growing economies in the world and it needsskilled and trained workforce. It is not possible for formaleducation system alone to provide desired number of skilledworkers. In such a situation, Netaji Subhas Open Universityis giving the opportunity to upgrade the skill of existing workforce by providing seamless vocational education and platterof pioneering courses of non-conventional in nature.Presently, there are 3000 learners on roll in 22 courses underthis School

In the changed economy andgovernment policy, the newly enacted Companies Act 2013,already introduced IndAS and the proposed GST will play acrucial role in the corporate sector.The one-day national Seminar will provide a platform forinteraction on these issues among the academicians,researchers and industrialists.
