Be Safe Be Kind
Work Hard Did you know…?
An analysis of more than
9.9 million students found
that only those students
who read 15 minutes or
more per day made
accelerated reading gains.
Students who had less than
15 minutes of daily
engaged reading time saw
below-average reading
gains, putting them at risk
of falling behind their
peers. Students who read
between just over a half-
hour and an hour per day
saw the greatest gains of
all.

next term.
Planning for 2020
In preparation for the 2020 school year we will soon
begin allocating students to new classes so it is very
important that we have accurate numbers of students
continuing at Two Wells in 2020. If you are NOT
returning to the school next year (this is not including
year 7 students moving onto high school in 2020)
please contact the front office ASAP.
We have a large number of enrolment enquiries at the
moment so any additional information from current
families will support us to identify exactly how many
students will be returning and therefore how many
classes we will need.
Early next term, class teachers and leaders will begin
student placements for the following year based on
the needs of the child. If there is anything you would
like us to consider when placing your child in a class
for 2020 please email me on
[email protected] or call 8520 2277.

From the Principal…
Over the next three weeks students from Years 2-7
will be undertaking the annual Progressive
Achievement Testing (PAT) in Maths and Reading as
required by the Department for Education. Teachers
will be using the data from this diagnostic testing to
further improve their planning and programming to
optimise student learning outcomes.
Science Night
And what an awesome night it was! Students and
families were exploring the huge variety of science
activities spread around the school. Thank you to all
the staff, parents and community members who
volunteered to help out on the night. We really felt
the sense of community and we’re very proud to put
on an event that is so well received year after year.
Reading
On Tuesday, our staff continued their training in
Teaching Reading Strategies with Katrina Spencer.
The Reading goal from our Site Improvement Plan
(available on the school website) is; To increase
achievement in reading R-7. Our 2019 targets are:
• For the cohort enrolled in reception in 2019,
70% of students will reach level 5 or above
Running Record benchmark.
• Identified students in 2019 will move from
below standard to achieve PAT-R Standard of
Educational Achievement or above.
I encourage you to talk to our teachers about your
child/ren’s reading and their progress in becoming a
‘balanced reader’. Although reading levels are
important, you might like to refer to the ‘what do
good readers do?’ on page 3 for strategies to help
support your child/ren’s reading.
Uniform Shop reminder
The Uniform Shop is open on Monday and Thursday
mornings 8:45am to 9:15am.
Newsletter reminder
We no longer send paper copies home. Newsletters
are available through the Skoolbag app, the ‘Two
Wells Primary School Page’ on Facebook, on our
school website and via Dojo. There will be a limited
number of paper copies held in the front office.

Thank you to ALL the students who got involved with Jump Rope for Heart! A huge thank you for the effort skipping and fundraising for the Jump Rope for Heart program this term. This year with the Junior Primary alone, we raised an incredible $3012 and this money will all go towards vital heart research and education programs. We’ve loved seeing so many smiling faces skipping around the school and in P.E lessons. Our Jump Off Day was a huge success, you can see a few action photos from the day below. Congratulations on a very successful year of skipping and fundraising, keep up the good work and keep active! Our focus is now set on the next big event for the term which is Sports Day. We have been practicing our Sports Day activities, organising our House Teams and building morale. Make sure you come and support our children and the House Teams on Sports Day which is the last day of the term! There will be more details out soon. Kurt Ferguson (P.E Teacher)
BRAINWAVE This term, all classes are learning about the anatomy of their brains;
how they function, how stress affects the brain and ways to de-
escalate.
In week 10, we will be hosting BRAINWAVE. All classes will be
presenting what they have learned during the term. Classes will
send out invites to their intended audience and present their
learning in fun and interactive ways.
Are you reading at home?
Every time you support your child/ren at home to read a book or listen to you read a book counts. Did you know that as
children build fluency and phrasing (one aspect of becoming a balanced reader) they build up the number of words they
can read? A general guide is that at 8 years they can read 80 words per minute, 10 years 100 words and 12 years 120 words
per minute. As children become more confident readers, they build their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.

Term 3: JP Resilience Group
Well done to the students for completing level 1 of Resilience and Wellbeing. It has been wonderful
to watch the students learn and grow throughout the program.
We are all very proud of the progress that has been made throughout the 3 terms. While it hasn’t
always been easy, we believe the positives far outweigh the negatives. I look forward to running this
program again in 2020.
Congratulations to our graduates:
