One of her influences, Amedeo Modigliani, has been in the news with his nude ‘Nu couché’ selling at $170 million at a recent auction. No doubt Modigliani will be part of Anjolie Ela Menon’s (inset) talk at Coomaraswamy Hall on the evening of November 30, where the famous contemporary artist discusses her life, her work, as well as what influences and inspires it.
The evening will also mark Menon’s return to Mumbai after almost ten years — after all, the 75-year-old artist also briefly
studied at the Sir JJ Institute of Applied Arts in the city when she was young. Since Menon says that “the narcissism of the early years has been transformed into a nostalgia for the past”, we’re ex-pecting Mumbai to pop up in her discussion.
