ThetripincludesahikingtrekacrosstheAnti-AtlasMountainscovering90milesineightdays.Mulescarryourgear,andmuleteerssetupourtentsandcookthefood,whilewecarrydaypacks.Wetrekthroughrockypassesandcanyonswithwideopenexpansiveviews,fantasticrockformations,remoteBerbervillages,friendlylocals,blackstarlitnightsandauthenticMoroccanfood.TheterrainisgentlerthanthemountainsoftheNortheastU.S.Trailsaregenerallygood,lessbecausetheyarewellmaintainedthanbecausetheydon’thavetodealwithalotofprecipitation.Weareawayfromcivilizationforeightdays,however,averaging11milesaday,in5-7hours,andeatingandsleepingonthegroundinaverydry,rockyenvironment.
Beforethetrek,wespend1nightinCasablancaand2nightsasmore
conventionaltouristsinlegendaryMarrakech.Afterthetrek,wemovetotheAtlanticcoastspending2nightsinthecharmingoldcityofEssaouira.
Participantsmusthaveprevioushikingexperienceattheintermediatelevelorhigher.Hikingwillbeatamoderatepace,however,thisisnotatripforbeginners,forsomeonewhohasnothikedinseveralyears,forsomeonewhohasneverhikedseveralconsecutivedays,orforsomeonewhoisnotalreadyinshapewhenweleavetheU.S.
