Student wireless access is here!
What is BYOD?● Access to the Internet at school.
● BYOD awards the same set of permissions as if you are on a school computer.
● Internet usage on the BYOD network is still monitored, as it is on a regular school computer.

Access● By logging into the network, students confirm they accept the terms and conditions of the GCPS RUP (Responsible Use Policy).
● Users agree to uphold the contents of the RUP as well as the Student Code of Conduct on their own student-owned devices while on school property.
*Failure to follow conduct code will result in restricted access
● GCPS will filter all content for users connected to the GCPS network at school.
Theft, Loss or Damage
● The owner is responsible for ensuring that the device is safe and secure.
● GCPS is not responsible for any maintenance, damage, theft, usage or usage charges, or loss of this non-school-district equipment.

Texting Fees
● GCPS is not responsible for any fees associated with using any personal technology devices.
● If a student chooses to use other functions or features on his or her device, standard fees may be billed by the student’s provider.

Questions
How do I log in to the BYOD
network?
Use the same login/password you use for a school computer and MYeClass!
(If you HAVE NOT reset your password this school year (either on MYeClass or school computer), then you must do this before accessing wireless.)
Once you are authenticated, you will receive filtered access to the Internet under RUP
guidelines.
● While on your wireless device, go
to your connections and choose the
“Student” connection. Then
you will be prompted to enter your school login
code and password. Use your network
login.
What can I use my device for?
Yes NoClass Projects and Assignments
ResearchOnline textbooks
The student portal – course pages, online research library, grades, etc.
Teacher led assessments… and more!
Access will be filtered, so if a site is blocked on a school computer, it will be blocked on the wireless network.
The Student Portal and BYOD
Remember: Your username and password for the portal = your username and password for a school computer.
In the student portal, you can find:
-Teacher course pages-Assignments-Study Guides-Calendar dates-Dropbox tool-Discussion tool
-Online textbooks-Your GRADES-Online Research Library-Other useful tools (Classworks, Atlas, etc.)
Will I be able to charge my device
at school?
NOPresently, no facilities are dedicated to charging personal devices, with a limited number of outlets available in any given space. Students should make it a point to charge their technology prior to coming to school each day.
What do I do if my device is
damaged or stolen?
● Even though you are TOTALLY responsible for keeping your personal device safe and secure, any time there is theft or damage, you should notify your teacher or the administration. GCPS is not liable or responsible for any theft, damage, or loss of any non-district device or the information on any such device.
I have a data plan from an outside
provider on my device that allows
Internet access without the GCPS
network. Is this allowable?
NO● BYOD is the ONLY allowable network on
personal devices. Students should not access the Internet through any cellular data
provider while on school premises.
What if I can’t get my device
working on BYOD?
● GCPS employees are not permitted to touch student devices and are not trained to
troubleshoot the many types of personal devices that students may bring.
● Refer to your owner’s manual, the internet, or a peer with the same device to help you
troubleshoot.

When Can I Use My Device?

● Remember devices can only be used for educational purposes.
● You may use your device when your teacher says you can. Your teacher may use signs such as these:
Some Helpful Tips
ALWAYS be mindful of your device at all times. Do not walk away and leave it on a desk or visible when not in use. You are responsible for your device at all times!
Charge your device before coming to
school. You will not be allowed to use the wall outlets in
school for charging.
Keep your phone in airplane mode when you are not using it to preserve your
battery life.
Understand how to work your device before coming to school and using it in class!
Remember, teachers and staff cannot help/fix your personal device, should you need it.
