THE TRANS-EUROPEAN TRANSPORT NETWORK
The Orient / East-Med corridor • The Trans-European Network can contribute to boost the
competitiveness of the European economy, contribute to sustainable growth and development of the internal market.
• The concept of TEN-T core network corridors underlines the need to go further than national visions for transport and to encompass a trans-border vision on the way people and goods move.
• Any investment on the corridor in any of the nine countries that it crosses will immediately bring an added value along the entire corridor
3
The Greek part of the Orient / East-Med corridor ERGOSE S.A. is responsible to construct a modern railway Corridor in Greece, also realizing the infrastructure obligations, as set in the European legislation (time horizon: 2030): • Operational speed 160 - 200 km/h • Electrification entire length • Number of tracks double track • Signalling systems ERTMS
4
Connections of the Corridor with ports
The connection of the railway Corridor with ports is a key requirement of the European legislation. • The connection with the port of Thessaloniki • The connection with the port of Pireaus • The connections with the ports of Kavala, Alexandroupolis and
Volos • The case of Patras • The plan to connect the port of Igoumenitsa via the Egnatia
railway
5
PLANNING TARGET FOR PATHE/P CORRIDOR
• Create a high-speed rail corridor of Increased Capacity equipped with modern signalling, telecommanding, telecommunication and electrification systems fulfilling the interoperability requirements of the European railways.
• Backbone of the Greek railway network
• Interconnects the big urban centres of the country and areas with significant growth in the primary and secondary sectors
• Links to the major freight centres, main ports and Trans-European corridors.
• Part of the Core TEN-T network and of OEM corridor.

Alexandroupoli - Ormenio /Bulgarian Border railway electrification and upgrading
13
• The upgrading is expected to increase the commercial speed of the freight trains by 20-30% and also to increase capacity of each freight train due to increase of the traction power following the electrification of the line.
• The electrification, the advanced signalling and the implementation of a central
management system, are expected to increase safety of rail transport, Improve operating conditions and train traffic, line capacity and service reliability.
• The operation and maintenance costs will also be reduced significantly.

Railway link between Greece and Albania Proposition for feasibility report through INTERREG The study will analyze the future size and type of demand for transport in
this region The main investment options will be analyzed with respect to the
consequences for passenger and freight transport and compared to a situation without any investments in the region.
