St. Catharine’s Altar Sewing & Crafts Guild wishes to thank all of our parishioners and friends who came and supported our Craft Fair. We raise approximately $1,500, which we will be giving to the Parish and the School. We also want to thank the Parish and School staff, who supported us through Building & Grounds, the bulletin, and advertisement. We also want to thank Christin Nice and Caityln Bahrenburg for the lovely photo and article in The Coast Star. We also want to take a moment to thank the many members who worked so hard all year to make the Craft Fair, and all our projects, a success. Our Guild was formed in October 1914, and our members make Altar linens and Baptismal bibs for our Parish, and baby hats for newborn and premature babies at local hospitals. We welcome new members who would like to learn the timeless arts of sewing, knitting, and crochet. Our meetings are usually the first and third Thursdays from 12 noon to 2:00 pm, and the second and fourth Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Please email [email protected] for more details. Our motto is: Serving the Lord, one stitch at a time. Come join us. Madelyn Curtis, President Joanne Campbell, Treasurer

3 513 St. Catharine—St. Margaret Parish Family
Now that we are about to begin the Advent season, it is
good to reflect at the beginning of the new liturgical year
how we are offered the opportunity in the course of the
year to have spelled out for us, and to be able to walk
through, all the mysteries of our faith and our salvation
through the celebration of the varied seasons of the church
year. We travel through periods of anticipation and
expectation and waiting and hoping to periods of joy and
celebration, through somber periods of sadness and loss to
days of exhilaration, joy and ecstasy; through birth and
death and resurrection. And the old year ends
appropriately, on the Feast of Christ the King; -
affirming the central reality and value of our lives and of
our faith, and the most important reality that binds all the
seasons together and gives meaning to it all – the central
role of Jesus in our lives.
Mother Teresa said one time, that at the end of your
life what will be important will not be the number of
diplomas you have or the amount of money you have
acquired. What will be important will be how well you
heard the Gospel and how well you lived it. What will
be important will be how well you saw the hand of God
in all of the times and seasons, all of the events and all
the experiences of the year.
Appropriately, Advent is the beginning of it all. We feel
the sense of anticipation and excitement that Mary felt
during those weeks before the birth of her child. It is not a
sad time. It is not a time of desolation like some of the
days leading up to Holy Week. The colors that you see in
the sanctuary are somber and intense. The purple
vestments are supposed to throw us into a reflective mood
that will lead inevitably to a redirection and if necessary a
changing of the direction of our hearts.
This is a very hectic time for all of us. This is probably
the “busiest” time of the year for all of us. The celebration
of the great feast of Christmas has been completely
hijacked by commercial and material interests. The
season of giving has been transformed into an orgy of
material excess. It is so vital that you come to church
during these days before Christmas, and that when you
come, that you and your family are reminded of and
challenged by the true meaning and spirit of this
season.

St Catharine Concert Series Concert Date: Sunday December 4th @ 3.00PM
Piano Recital: Award winning Piano Studio of Dr.
Ivo Kaltchev
Chair of Piano Division at Catholic University of
America; Music of Debussy, Chopin, Beethoven and
others.
Happy Thanksgiving to all St. Catharine-St.
Margaret parishioners! And if you are home for
the holidays, a special greeting and welcome to
you as we celebrate and thank God for his many
blessings to us. And we do have a lot to be
thankful for!
As always, however, at this time of the year, I
remind everyone to be clear about how and why
we give thanks as followers of Christ. Even if we
were not surrounded with all the blessings that we
acknowledge today, we, no less than the Pilgrims
before us, should reflect naturally on the goodness
of God. And that goodness is not so much
measured by what we have been given, as much as
by what He does with us always. The goodness of
God is reflected by the awareness that He is with
us and that He shares with us the joyful as well as
the sorrowful moments of our lives, and carries us
through the good and the bad times: “Even
though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death”
the Psalmist wrote “I will not be afraid because you
are with me.” God’s presence in our lives does not
necessarily make life easy, but rather makes life
meaningful and gives us purpose, direction and
strength.

The Christmas Giving Tree
Our Parish has a long history of giving and last year, through your generosity, we were able to provide over 1200 gifts to our parish seniors who are homebound or in nursing homes, children
in Honduras and infants and children served by Madonna House, Mercy Center, Mother of Mercy Parish and St Anthony Claret as well as items for Sister Carole to take to Uganda.
This year our Christmas “Giving Tree” will be in our churches beginning the weekend of November 26. Each tree has tags requesting items of clothing and toys for children and/or adults. Please select a tag, buy the item or gift certificate and return it gift wrapped with the tag attached to the outside of the gift. Some agencies have requested that gifts NOT BE WRAPPED and this is indicated on the tag. If you would rather not shop you may make a donation for sneakers and for senior citizens gifts. Please place all monetary gifts in the collection box by the tree with the tag attached to the envelope.
Gifts must be returned by SUNDAY DECEMBER 18 in order for the last distribution to be delivered to the agencies during the week of December 19 the so they can sort and distribute in time for Christmas. We need help to sort and bag gifts after the last Masses at St. Margaret Churches on Dec 11th and Dec. 18th and at St. Catharine’s Church on Monday, Dec. 12th and Dec. 19th at 2:00 PM to sort and deliver gifts.
Please call Maureen O’Reilly at 732-449-8285 if you can help on even one of these occasions. Thank you. May God bless your family.

Cursillo Women’s Weekend-
December 1st to the 4th:
Are you searching for a way of deepening your relationship with Christ, and discover or rediscover a sense of Christian Community? Come take a “Short Course” in Christianity. Make a Cursillo weekend: beginning on Thursday night, December 1st and running through Sunday afternoon, December 4th, at St. Alfonso Retreat House, Long Branch. The cost of the weekend is reasonably priced and no sincere participant is turned away for financial reasons. Cursillo is an active, worldwide evangelization ministry and movement that is endorsed by our Holy Father and Bishops throughout the world. Cursillo has been in the Diocese of Trenton since 1972. Centered on the Eucharist and based on three basic concepts: piety, study and action, Cursillo promotes Catholic ideals, fellowship, and spiritual growth in daily living; and provides an opportunity to experience the love of God within a supportive and prayerful community. The Cursillo is a method of giving those, who have the potential of influencing others, a personal encounter with Christ and the means to further enhance, and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through evangelizing their environments. You can find out more about Cursillo at the Trenton Cursillo website at http://www.trentoncursillo.org/ or by calling Adelaide Sangiorgi at 732-859-0253.
