Download - The Interior Structure of the Earth
Today I will learn about the interior structure of the earth
Or in other words what the earth looks like on the inside
What it would be like to journey to the center of the Earth?
What do you think it would be like?
With your group, rehearse your “part” of the earth’s interior structure
The class will form the earth’s structure and act like each of the following
1. Inner Core 2. Outer Core3. Inner Mantle 4. Outer Mantle 5. Crust
The core is the innermost layer of the Earth
Made up of two parts, inner core which is solid iron and outer core which is hot magma
The middle layer of the Earth and the thickest layer
Made up of two parts, the inner mantle and the outer mantle
Where most of the Earth’s heat is located
The top layer of the Earth and the layer we live on
Thinnest layer of the Earth
The Earth’s plates are made up of the crust
Heat from the Earth’s Core forms CONVECTION CURRENTS
These currents move the continental plates around on the earth’s surface
When plates move apart from one another, magma rises through the open space and cools forming a ridge
When plates move close together a mountain chain
A SUBDUCTION ZONE is when one plate slides below another creating a volcano on the Earth’s surface
