Tena koutou. Malo e lelei, St Joseph's Fairlie whanau.
It is the first week of school for 2020. I am certain that I was as nervouslyexcited as the children were!
A quick introduction for those who do not know me, this is definitely theshortened version!!
I grew up in the North Island in Papamoa. I went to university in the Waikatowhich is where I met my husband Greg. We moved down south soon after wewere married to raise our children and begin life on the farm! We have twochildren Ethan (19) who is an apprentice plumber and Jessica (18) who istraining to be a medic in the NZ Army. I began teaching in 2006 and wasprincipal here at St Joseph's Fairlie from 2013 - 2019. Greg looks after our farmand we also work together to run a property management company in Tekapo. Ilove good food, spending time with friends and family, going to concerts andtravelling.
I would like to thank you all for your very warm welcome back. While I wouldlove to stay longer than the term because St Joseph's Fairlie is special to me, Ihave got other interests outside of school that take a bit of time! We will be looking for a new principal this term. If you know of anyoneinterested please get them to apply or contact the school if they would like tovisit first.
You all know how amazing this school and the community is - let us share thearoha! We have a wonderful term ahead of us.
Manaaki Te Atua,
Angela

Altar Servers 2020We are sending out a request for support with this ministry. As you are aware our
numbers are very low and this puts added pressure on the remaining families. Please let us know if you would like to add your child on the altar serving roster. Any
student already on the roster will remain there unless you advise us otherwise. With thanks.
WAITANGI DAYThis Thursday 6th of February is a public holiday and a day we commemorate the
Treaty of Waitangi. While this is the day we remember the signing of our foundation document, we alsoreflect on what makes New Zealand and us as New Zealanders unique. There havebeen injustices and misunderstandings in the past, but we can think about our future
and how we can make it special for our young people. Maori place an importance on whakapapa, a difficult concept to fully translate.
Whakapapa is about acknowledging and having a connection with where you havecome from. It is about looking back as we move forward. By knowing your family
history it gives you an understanding of who you are. This week talk to your childrenabout your childhood, ring or visit a grandparent or great grandparent and share
some stories.
Stationery & UniformThank you to all those who collected their child's stationery last week, it made
Corrine's job less busy for yesterday. As each child now has their stationery anduniform requirements for the start of the year a term account will be sent home nextweek. Payment of this as soon as possible would be appreciated. Corrine will also
be sending out next week the Attendance Dues for Term One for the Parish. If you would like to set up an automatic payment each week that covers the school
fees and Attendance Dues please talk to Corrine.

The ONLY Christian church in existence for the first 1,000 years of Christian
history was the Roman Catholic Church. All other Christian churches which
exist today can trace their lineage back to the Roman Catholic Church. Most
non-Catholic churches which exist today are less than a century or two old by
comparison.
