Sensortargets:
Proximitysensortargetscanbeanysuitablemetallicobjectwhichpasseswithinrangeofthesensortip.Ironandmildsteeltargetsarepreferredastheygivethestrongestsignaltothesensor.Aluminum,brassandcoppertargetsgiveapproximatelyonethirdofthesensingrangewhichmakessettingupthesensordifficultandmaycausethespeedsignaltobeunreliable.Magneticsensorsaresuppliedwithrareearthmagnettargetswhichmaybebondedtothevehiclecomponentinquestion.AluminummountingcollarsfittedwithmagnetsarealsoavailableforpurchasefromAutoMeterseparately.
Itisimportantthatthesensorandtargetsarerigidlymountedsotheydonotmovewithvibration.Thesensorbracketshouldhaveasuitableholeforthethreadedportionofthesensortopassthrough.Targetsshouldbeatleast10mm(5/8”)acrossandstand4mm(5/32”)proud(Fig.1).Smallertargetscanbeusedbutthesewillreducetherange.Smallaluminum,brassorcoppertargetswillgenerallynotwork.Nothingexceptthetargetsshouldcomewithin6mm(1/4”)oftheendofthesensor.Ifthesensormountingpositionistoberecessed,ahollowof24mm(15/16”)diameterandatleast4mm(5/32”)deepshouldbeallowedaroundthesensor.
Sensorfittingandadjustment:
1. ConnecttheMiniSure‐SealconnectoroftheproximitysensortothesystemviaPA1toPA4oftheSensorHarness.Turnonthepower.
2. Assemblethefirst(rear)nutontothesensor.3. Insertthesensorintothemountingbracketholeandfitthefrontnut.4. Rotatethewheelorshaftandmovethesensorslowlyforwardbyundoingtherearnutcounter‐
clockwiseuntilthebuilt‐inlight(LED)comesonforeverytarget.
Thatlightisusedtocheckthatboththemechanicalandelectricalinstallationshavebeenperformedcorrectly.ThislightshouldbeONwhenatargetisinfrontofthesensor.
