St. Aloysius Parish Mission Statement
St. Aloysius Parish is a Roman Catholic community dedicated to celebrating the life and word of Jesus Christ.
All are welcome to deepen their spiritual and personal lives through active participation in weekly Liturgy, the
celebration of the Sacraments, Parish ministries and community activities. Acknowledging our incompleteness
and our need for God’s grace, we commit ourselves, through Baptism, to responding to God’s call to become and
grow as disciples of Jesus Christ in our time. Jesus Christ is at the center of all of our lives.

Dear Parishioners of St. Aloysius Parish,
I truly enjoyed the celebration of my 50th ordination of the Priesthood and fifty years of service at St. Aloysius on Sunday, June 5, 2016.
It was a most humbling experience to be surrounded by so many of my parishioners, friends and family at the Mass and reception. I realize everyone could not attend and I appreciate your kind words.
I thank everyone for their generosity in coordinating all the arrangements, volunteering your services and your cards and generous gifts which have been donated to Trinity Academy.
I tried to thank everyone personally but some addresses I just could not locate. I am happy to tell you that you contributed over $5,000.00 to the students of Trinity Academy. I assure you that this will be of big help to the school.
Please be assured of my gratitude, love, best wishes and prayers to Msgr. Michael Desmond and the entire parish for joining with me in celebration.
Sincerely,
Rev. Msgr. Michael E. Kelly

Dear Parishioner,
In today’s second reading from his letter to the Galatians,
Saint Paul writes:
For freedom Christ set us free;
so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of
slavery.
For you were called for freedom, brothers and sisters.
But do not use this freedom
as an opportunity for the flesh;
rather, serve one another through love.
For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement,
namely, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
How blessed we are to be able to enjoy this freedom
through Christ. Yet circumstances in our society make this
difficult for many people. This year, the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops has dedicated June 21 to
July 4 as “Fortnight for Freedom: 2016 – Witnesses to
Freedom.” Please read these excerpts from Our First, Most
Cherished Liberty: A Statement on Religious Liberty from
the USCCB’s Ad Hoc Committee on Religious Liberty.
We are Catholics. We are Americans. We are proud to be
both, grateful for the gift of faith which is ours as Christian
disciples, and grateful for the gift of liberty which is ours as
American citizens. To be Catholic and American should
mean not having to choose one over the other. Our
allegiances are distinct, but they need not be contradictory,
and should instead be complementary. That is the teaching
of our Catholic faith, which obliges us to work together
with fellow citizens for the common good of all who live in
this land. That is the vision of our founding and our
Constitution, which guarantees citizens of all religious
faiths the right to contribute to our common life together.
We need, therefore, to speak frankly with each other when
our freedoms are threatened. Now is such a time. As
Catholic bishops and American citizens, we address an
urgent summons to our fellow Catholics and fellow
Americans to be on guard, for religious liberty is under
attack, both at home and abroad.
Religious liberty is not only about our ability to go to Mass
on Sunday or pray the Rosary at home. It is about whether
we can make our contribution to the common good of all
Americans. Can we do the good works our faith calls us to
do, without having to compromise that very same faith?
Without religious liberty properly understood, all
Americans suffer, deprived of the essential contribution in
education, health care, feeding the hungry, civil rights, and
social services that religious Americans make every day,
both here at home and overseas.
What is at stake is whether America will continue to have a
free, creative, and robust civil society—or whether the state
alone will determine who gets to contribute to the

common good, and how they get to do it. Religious
believers are part of American civil society, which includes
neighbors helping each other, community associations,
fraternal service clubs, sports leagues, and youth groups.
All these Americans make their contribution to our common
life, and they do not need the permission of the government
to do so. Restrictions on religious liberty are an attack on
civil society and the American genius for voluntary
associations.
This is not a Catholic issue. This is not a Jewish issue. This
is not an Orthodox, Mormon, or Muslim issue. It is an
American issue.
Let us dedicate our prayers this week to promoting religious
freedom, strengthening those around the country and
around the world working for this freedom and bringing
comfort and hope to those suffering from religious
persecution.

DO YOU HAVE FIVE MINUTES A DAY?
DO YOU WORRY ABOUT
OUR WORLD TODAY?
We would like to invite you to become part of the
LIVING ROSARY. This activity was started at Saint Aloysius Parish a number of years ago as a means of joining our prayers together to pray for peace in our country and for all our special intentions. It is also in response to people’s needs for greater spiritual growth. At this time we have several teams of 5 members each participating in our living rosary. It is a power house of prayer!
This activity may be taken on by anyone. Families can participate, the home bound can become part of the Living Rosary; persons on their way to work can
join also. There are no meetings to attend.
What is necessary to become part of the Living Rosary is a commitment to say one decade of the Rosary each day. You then become a member of a team who together says the entire rosary each day. It is said for the intentions of those members comprising the Living Rosary and for the specific and special intentions of our parish. It can be done at home, in the car, on the train, and any time of your day.
The Rosary has been used for centuries for world peace, against the heresy of the times, during the Nazi occupation of Poland and at many other times. This is a simple devotion, parish oriented, that demands little of its members and produces great spiritual results.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the LIVING ROSARY. Please fill out the form below and put it in the collection basket, drop it off at the rectory or the parish center, or call Sister Justine at 973-226-0209 x 6 or e-mail me at [email protected]. We will then contact you to coordinate the groups and mysteries of the Rosary.
I am interested in becoming a member of the Living
Rosary:

Mission Appeal: June 25th and 26th
My dear brothers and sisters, this weekend we
are happy to welcome Sister Lisa Valentini, MSC
– a Missionary Sister of the Most Sacred Heart
of Jesus – who has come to share with us here at
St. Aloysius Parish about the Mission endeavors
of her Sisters. Sister Lisa’s Congregation was
founded as a Missionary Order in the year 1900
– and at the moment there are 735 MSC Sisters
serving Our Lord by spreading the Good News in
22 Countries around the world. Sister Lisa has
been a missionary for over 30 years – and is very
happy to be able to share with us about the
ministry of her sisters and about her own
missionary experiences in Perú, Mexico, Haiti and
the Dominican Republic. Today’s 2nd collection
will give us a unique and blessed opportunity to
be a part of the work of the MSC Sisters. I
know you will be very generous – because you
always are. Thank you and God bless you.
Twice a year, the prayer list for the SICK in the bulletin will begin anew. If you wish to have a loved one prayed for, please call the rectory before July 11th. All names will be removed after that time unless a new request is made. Thank you.
