Antimicrobial growth promoters (AGP)
Why did we use AGP in the past?
Inhibit endemic subclinical infection, thus reducing the metabolic costs of the (innate) immune system.
Reduce microbial use of nutrients.
Reduce growth depressing metabolites produced by pathogenic bacteria
• Ammonia and bile degradation products
Improve the results with poor management
The last ones which were forbidden in 2006
Avilamicine, flavofosfolipol, salinomicine and monensin

Effects of AGP use elimination:

Regulation (EC) No 2160/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17
November 2003 on the control of salmonella and other specified food-borne zoonotic
agents.
With effect from 84 months (7 years) after entry into force of this Regulation, fresh
poultry meat from animals listed in Annex I may not be placed on the market for human
consumption unless it meets the following criterion:
Objective in 2010:‘Salmonella: absence in 25 grams’
