Chloe And Luke - U7 Ryde Shining Stars
Outstanding results for these two young U7 ‘shining stars,’ Chloe McGregor and Luke Moscos. These
two friends were regulars on the Zone podium, both winning medals in all events that they entered.
Luke entered three events. He won 2 gold medals in the 70m and 200m Sprints. He won a bronze
medal in the Discus with a throw of 14.73m. Luke is a very talented young athlete who started in the
U6 at the very end of the season last year. His performances on the track at Dunbar Park have been
most impressive. He currently holds the season best in all events for the U7 Boys. Congratulations
Luke for your very impressive achievements.
Chloe won 3 gold medals in the 500m Pack Start, 100m and 200m Sprints. In the 70m Sprint Chloe
won a silver medal. Chloe is one of the stronger performing athletes in the U7 Girls. She currently
holds the season best for 6 out of 8 events. Congratulations Chloe on such an outstanding
achievement.
A huge congratulations to both Chloe and Luke for their most impressive results at the 2016
Metropolitan North Zone Carnival. Ryde Athletics shares your joy and congratulates you both on
your outstanding achievements.
Zone Carnival President’s Message - David Sunderland
The 2016 North Metropolitan Zone Carnival was held on the 10th-11th December. In total 230 athletes and 4 relay teams represented Ryde Athletics. Over the weekend I witnessed many fantastic achievements by many talented Ryde athletes. I would like to congratulate all Ryde Athletes that competed at Zone. Personally, I had an enjoyable two days in my role as team manager.
The fantastic results by Ryde saw 140 athletes in the U8-U17 age groups qualify for the Regional Carnival to be held at The Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen on the 11th-12th February. Congratulations and well done to all Ryde athletes. The results for all Zone Events and results per Ryde Athlete are available by clicking on the hyperlink or by visiting the Ryde Athletics website. Regional qualifiers are now available and links are provided on the Ryde Athletics website home page - News Section. For further information in regard to the Regional Carnival please visit the Ryde Athletics Regional page or the LANSW Regional Championship page. Any enquiries may be directed to your age manager or The Championships Officer. Congratulations to all of the U7 athletes who competed at their very first Zone Carnival. It was fantastic to observe so many U7’s all having a go and competing to the very best of their ability. Great sportsmanship was also displayed amongst these youngsters. Overall, the U7 age group had some fantastic results with many ‘shining stars’ found in this age group. As U7’s do not progress to Region, 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings were awarded medals. Overall, the Ryde U7’s won 5 GOLD medals, 3 SILVER medals and 5 BRONZE medals. A fantastic effort by the U7’s. The following U7 athletes received medals: Chloe McGregor— GOLD (100m,200m,500m) and SILVER (70m) Luke Moscos - GOLD (70m, 200m) and BRONZE (Discus) Emilia Webb— SILVER (Shot Put) Zakar Balian— SILVER (Shot Put) Mataya Jabre— BRONZE (500m) Kiara Murphy— BRONZE (Shot Put) Sophia Read— BRONZE (Discus) Jason Chong— BRONZE (100m) Two Zone records were broken on the weekend by two very talented Ryde throwers - Natasha Fairhall and Benjamin Stevens. Natasha broke the U11Girls Javelin Zone Record with a throw of 20.95m and Benjamin Stevens broke the U12Boys Discus Zone Record with a throw of 38.43m. An awesome result! The Ryde Athletics Community is most proud of your awesome achievements. To finish off the Zone Carnival, the relay teams from Ryde were most impressive, with some great results. It was great to see many of the athletes who attend my Sprint Coaching representing Ryde in the relay teams. Three out of the four teams entered achieved a second placing. Great job guys and a great team effort! Some exciting relay races to watch with some very close finishes between first and second placings. I am currently looking forward to the Regional Carnival in February where I am sure I will continue to witness many more fantastic achievements by Ryde Athletes. Congratulations to all Regional qualifiers. I would like to wish you all the very best of luck at the Regional Championships. At the moment I am pleased to announce that Stage 2 Ryde Athletics Upgrades are about to take place with the installation of a new sound system and speakers at Dunbar Park. These installations will benefit all members and athletes with much clearer announcements on a Saturday morning. Finally, after the Christmas Break Northern Suburbs athletes will begin competing at Ryde Athletics on a Saturday morning. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all North’s athletes. The Ryde Athletics Community hopes that all North’s athletes have an enjoyable time whilst competing at Ryde. May all athletes competing at Ryde and their families enjoy the remainder of the season. I look forward to seeing you all this Saturday. David Sunderland - Ryde Little Athletics Club President

ABC Janet King Production -Take 2
Recruitment started of slowly for takers for the filming of the ABC Janet King Production. As it was a
busy time of year and many athletes could not return I had the challenging task of recruiting
interested athletes. A demanding experience with many late nights but in the end Ryde Athletes
showed their true Ryde Spirit and supported the club with their attendance. I even got into trouble
for providing excess athletes! Thank you to all the athletes and parents that supported the filming
and made the day such a success.
Feedback that I received was that attendees had a most enjoyable experience. Leaving attendees
on the day left both tired and happy and were extremely grateful for the extra’s filming experience.
The athletes all participated doing what they do best - athletics. All athletes were very keen to
participate in whatever role they were asked to do. It was very enjoyable to watch all the athletes
running, jumping and having a great time. All parents and Officials participated keenly in their acting
roles as well. It was truly great to see.
The breakfast and lunch provided by the ABC was a fantastic feast. Everybody went away feeling
full and pleased with the great selection of food that was on offer. A pleasant treat that was enjoyed
by all.
Both the casting agency and the ABC crew all commented about the fantastic enthusiasm displayed
by the Ryde participants. They were most impressed with the exemplary behaviour of all Ryde
athletes and teenage officials.
Thank you to everyone who assisted me with recruiting athletes and thank you to everyone for your
cooperation and help with making the ABC Janet King Filming production a success.
Look out for our talented Ryde ‘extras’ when the TV series is broadcasted!
