SeCTiON 1 iNTrODUCTiON
The HK "P Series" includes the P2000, P2000SK (Subcompact), P30, and P30L; all majorhandgun models recently developed by Heckler & Koch.
The P2000 and P2000SK (Subcompact) incorporate eatures o the successul HK USPCompact pistol with the latest innovations o HK engineers. A renement o a designcreated or several European police agencies, the P2000 and P2000SK are available witha traditional single-action/double-action trigger mode and the LEM (Law EnorcementModication) trigger system rst introduced by HK in 2001 on the USP Compact LEMmodel.
The HK Law Enorcement Modication (LEM) trigger system, also known as the CombatDeense Action system in Europe, combines the advantages o a cocked strikercomponent (constant level o trigger pull rom rst to last round red) with a double-actionhammer system. Using such an enhanced trigger system consolidates ease o use and
saety into a convenient, innovative trigger operationone that reduces the chance ounintended ring. And in case o an ammunition-related ailure to re, all that is neededis an additional second or third squeeze o the trigger without the need o rst pulling theslide back to re-cock the pistol. The enhanced LEM trigger system combines the reliabilityo a double action revolver trigger with the crisp trigger o a single action pistol.
On P2000 and P2000SK variants using the conventional double-action/single-action(DA/SA) mode o operation an ambidextrous decocking button is mounted on the let, rear portion o the rame. It allows the user to saely lower the hammer rom SA positionto DA position. This DA/SA variant o the P2000 and P2000SK is readily identiable by the
presence o the serrated decocking button and spurred hammer.
A set o simple-to-install modular grip inserts allow all P2000/P2000SK models to becustom-tted to any shooters hand. An ambidextrous magazine release and dual sliderelease levers make handling P2000/P2000SK pistols natural and easy or right and let-handed shooters alike.
The addition o industry standard mounting rails to the P2000 and P2000SK allows thewidest variety o lights, aimers, and accessories to be added by sliding them onto theopen rail system. The HK P2000 US model uses widely available, reliable USP Compact
magazines. The same magazines t the P2000SK or added repower, but extend pass thegrip.
Like the P2000 and P2000SK, the P30 and P30L (Long Slide) are modern police andsecurity pistols that combines unction and saety. Ergonomic eatures includes a specialrame with interchangeable backstraps inserts and lateral grip panels (lateral plates),allowing the pistol to be individually adapted to any user.
Multiple trigger ring modes include the Law Enorcement Modication (LEM) enhanceddouble action covered previously and a conventional double-action/single-action(DA/SA) with a serrated decocking button located on the rear o the rame. A conventionalsaety lever can also be placed on the rame o the P30/P30L. Other ambidextrous controlsinclude dual slide and magazine release levers.
A Picatinny rail molded into the ront o the rame makes mounting lights, laser aimers, orother accessories easy and convenient and a double action hammer with a ring pin blocksaety that eliminates the need or a manual saety. Extensively tested, the P30and P30Lhave already been adopted by several European police agencies. Excellent weight andbalance make all P30 models naturally pointable, easy to control, and accurate to shoot.

A set o easy-to-install modular back straps allow the P30 and P30L pistols to be custom-tted to any shooters hand. The P30 also incorporates interchangeable side panels oroptimal t. Ambidextrous slide release levers and magazine release levers make handlingthe P Series pistol natural and easy or right and let-handed shooters. The P30 and P30Lare also available with the LEM or DA/SA trigger systems
Due to their modular design, all HK P Series pistol can be tted to the individual needs othe shooter. Highly reliable, sae, durable, and accurate pistols with signicant ergonomiceatures, the P30 pistol is currently available in 9 mm. The P2000 and P2000SK pistols arecurrently available in .40 S&W, 9 mm, and .357 SIG.
Sgncant atus nclud: Modular grip with exchangeable back straps to easily adjust the grip size to the
shooter's hand The P30 incorporates interchangeable grip panels in addition to the interchangeable
backstraps
Ideal size and weight to comply with the requirements of the full range of police andsecurity missions, including concealed carry Set of industry standard (P2000 and P2000SK) mounting grooves molded into the
polymer rame or installing accessory lights and laser aimers Picatinny Rail (available on the P30 and P30L) Advanced design with contoured external surfaces to avoid snagging on holster and
clothing Polymer recoil absorber stop bushing used on P2000, P30, and P30L aids in recoil
reduction, double recoil/buer spring assembly used on P2000SK used Ambidextrous slide release (located on both sides of the frame) Ambidextrous magazine release
Low-profile slide and slimline, compact dimensions Very short trigger reset distance to enhance the speed of multiple or follow-up shots No snag hammer with a rubber insert or improved dropped saety Polygonal cold-hammer orged barrel or less barrel wear, better gas seal behind the
bullet, and easier bore cleaning
All P Series pistols use a modied Browning-type action, much like the HK USP and USPCompact. And like the USP and USP Compact, the P Series pistols also uses a similarmechanical recoil reduction system. This system includes a specially designed fat recoilspring, contained in the captive recoil spring assembly by an absorber bushing made
o a high-strength polymer. The double recoil/buer spring assembly used on P2000SKperorms the same unction.
The polymer rame o the P Series pistol was designed using technical experience gainedby HK engineers in the development o the world's rst composite material pistols, theHK VP70Z and P9S, and more recently, in the USP and USP Compact. These same high-strength/corrosion-ree materials are used in the Mark 23/MK 23 handgun made by HKor the U.S. Special Operations Command. Major metal components like the one-piece,machined steel slide are also corrosion resistant and treated with a special HE (HostileEnvironment) protective nish. The HE nish is an extremely hard, nitro-gas carburized black
oxide coating which resists much o the worst types o corrosion and wear, including limitedexposure to salt water.
Law enocmnt ModcatonThis unique pre-cocked hammer system combines the advantages o a cocked strikercomponent (constant level o trigger pull and short trigger travel rom rst to last roundred) with the double-action hammer system. This ensures an extremely sae pistol withregard to unintended ring and, in case o ailure to ignite, the possibility o a second orthird trigger pull without the need o rst pulling the slide back to re-cock the system.

This is a major advantage over the striker-red trigger systems employed by competingmanuacturers which need to be manually re-cocked (slide pulled back) beore the triggercan be pulled.

P Series pistols tted with the Law Enorcement Modication (LEM) trigger operate much
like standard Double-Action Only (DAO) variants o the USP and USP Compact pistols. However, the way in which the LEM hammer is cocked is unique. The hammer in the LEMis a two-piece hammer comprised o a cocking piece (not visible with the pistol assembled)and an external (visible) bobbed hammer.
In the LEM system, the quality o the trigger pull is improved, while at the same time astronger hammer spring can be employed to improve reliability by increasing the ring pinindent on the primer. The stronger hammer spring also helps to reduce the slide velocitywhen ring hot ammunition.
P2000, P2000SK, P30 and P30 L pistols with an LEM trigger system use the rearward move-
ment o the slide during loading or ring to ully compress the hammer spring instead orelying on the rearward pull o the trigger as in conventional DA or DAO systems.
The cocking piece and hammer are rotated rearward on the hammer axle when the slidemoves ully rearward. When ully to the rear, the cocking piece is held in the cocked posi-tion by the sear and the hammer spring has been ully compressed by the hammer strut. As the slide travels orward, the hammer is rotated back and held in the orward positionby the hammer rebound spring.
When the trigger is pulled rearward against the combined orce (@ 7.5 8.5 pounds new)
o the trigger, hammer rebound, ring pin block and sear springs, the internal passivesaeties are disengaged and the sear releases the cocking piece. The cocking piece is thenree to rotate the hammer orward on its axle, under pressure o the compressed hammerspring, imparted through the hammer strut to strike the ring pin and re the chamberedround.

DA/SA variant will revert to the single-action mode on each shot unless the operatorphysically decocks the hammer by way o the decocking lever.
Unloadng th Pstol - To unload the pistol, ollow the Clearing procedure.
Clang th Pstol - HK P Series pistols are not considered clear or sae unless:
1. The magazine is removed rom the pistol.2. The slide is locked to the rear.3. The chamber is ree o brass or ammunition.
To Clear the HK P Series pistol:1. Make sure ingers are outside o the trigger guard and the pistol is pointed in a sae
direction at all times!2. Remove magazine - Depress the magazine release lever and remove the magazine from
the pistol.3. Open and lock slide - While pointing the pistol in a sae direction, lock the slide open by
pulling the slide rearward as you press the slide release upward. Watch or a cartridge orempty case to be ejected rom the pistol.4. Inspect chamber - Inspect chamber or the presence o a cartridge or empty case by:
Visually viewing chamber through open ejection port. Physically inserting finger into chamber through ejection port to check for the
presence o a cartridge or empty case. Remove any cartridges or empty cases from the chamber or from within the
pistol.
The HK Pistol is now considered Clear.
On the double-action/single-action variant, pulling the trigger will cock the hammer andimmediately release it ring the rst chambered cartridge. All subsequent cartridges willbe red in the single-action mode because the slide automatically recocks the hammerater each shot is red.
Doubl-acton/Sngl-acton Mods (P Ss pstol) - The P Series DA/SA variant(designated a Variant 3) is congured with a combination double-action/single-actionmode o operation. The P Series DA/SA variant is not equipped with the LEM triggermechanism.
In the single-action mode, rearward movement o slide cocks the hammer. Initially, thisoccurs by either depressing the slide release when the slide is locked back to the rear orby grasping and then releasing the slide. Serrations cut on both let and right sides othe rear o the slide aid the operator by providing a rmer gripping surace. Ater the rstround o the magazine is chambered then discharged, all subsequent cartridges will bered in the single-action mode again due to the rearward movement o the slide passingover and cocking the hammer. In the double-action mode, pulling the trigger will cock thehammer and immediately release it ring the rst chambered cartridge. All subsequentcartridges will be red in the single-action mode because the slide automatically recocks thehammer ater each shot red.
Dcockng Lv (P Ss DA/SA Vaant 3) - P Series DA/SA variants are equippedwith a decocking lever that allows the operator to saely lower the hammer without havingto engage the trigger. The pistol will now unction and re in the double-action mode, however; all subsequent shots will be single action. The decocking lever is located on therear o the rame to the let o the hammer and is activated by simply applying orwardpressure on the serrated surace (see Figure 1).

Figure 1 Figure 2
On variants using a conventional double-action/single-action (DA/SA) mode o opera-tion, a decocking lever is mounted on the let, rear portion o the rame. It allows the userto lower the hammer rom SA position to DA position. This variant o the P Series U.S. isreadily identiable by the presence o the serrated lever (see Figure 2).
P Series pistols have an ambidextrous magazine release lever which is shielded rom inad-
vertent actuation by the fared trigger guard. The magazine release lever can be pressedwith the thumb or index nger o the ring hand; in most cases without adjusting the ringgrip.
Another unique eature making the P Series pistol truly ambidextrous is the presence o aslide release on both sides o the rame. These slide release levers are positioned to alloweasy actuation without adjustment o the grip o the shooting hand and are easily removedduring operator disassembly.
Low-prole 3-dot sights are standard on the P Series pistol. The rear sight is drit adjustableor windage. Elevation changes can be made by replacing the ront sight blade with anaccessory sight o a dierent height.
The P Series pistol uses metal magazines to minimize the grip size. These magazines havea series o viewing holes on the back side or counting the cartridges remaining inside. Anextended magazine foorplate with a durable nger extension is provided on each pistol'smagazine. Floorplates on all magazines can be removed or cleaning and maintenance. Thepolymer foorplate oers a level o protection to the magazine i dropped.

A set o industry standard mounting grooves or installing accessories is molded in thepolymer rame. These grooves allow many accessories and targeting devices to be mount-ed on the P Series pistols without modication to the pistol.

Gnal - (Refer to Figures 3 & 4 for the location of the features described below.)Heckler & Koch P Series pistols are recoil operated and uses a modiied Browning-stylesystem, without a link, to lock and unlock the barrel.
Upon iring, the pressure developed by the propellant gases orces the slide and barrelassembly to the rear. Ater moving approximately 3mm, the locking block will stop therearward movement o the barrel. The barrel is pulled downward due to the engagemento the angled locking suraces o the locking block with those located on the end o therecoil spring guide rod. The locking block disengages rom the slide and the slide contin-ues rearward independently rom the barrel. The extractor, located on the right side o theslide, extracts the spent case. The ejector, positioned in the let side o the rame rearwardo the magazine, will then eject the ired cartridge case. The rearward moving slide thencocks the hammer and compresses the recoil spring.
Once ully to the rear, the compressed recoil spring pushes the slide orward, stripping thenext cartridge rom the magazine into the chamber. I the magazine is empty, the maga-zine ollower lits the slide release into position where it can stop the orward progress othe slide and holds the slide open. I a cartridge is present in the magazine, the slide will
push the cartridge rom the magazine and into the chamber.

During the last 3mm o orward movement, the slide orces the angled suraces o thebarrel locking block against opposing angled suraces on the recoil spring guide rod. Thisaction pivots the locking block on the barrel up into engagement with the ejection port onthe slide. The breech is now locked closed and the next shot can be ired.

In the double-action only mode, the hammer always returns to the uncocked (orward)position ater each shot. All shots are ired in the double-action only mode.
Dcockng Button - Double action/single action variants o the P series use a serrated de-cocking located on the rear, let side o the rame to uncocked a cocked pistol. Depressingthe decocking button (usually using the thumb) saely drops the cocked hammer render-ings the pistol sae and uncocked.
Saty Lv ( applcabl) - In addition to a decocking button on the rear o the rame, some P series pistols may also have a saety lever installed on either (or both) sides o the
rame. Pushing the saety lever up into the S position places the pistol on SAFE whilemoving the lever downward into the horizontal F position enables the pistol to re.
When the ront o the saety lever is ully raised above horizontal so that the S on thelever itsel aligns with the reerence line on the rame, the saety lever is engaged and therelease o the hammer is blocked in the single-action mode o re. In the double-actionmode, the hammer will partially cock but will not release to re the pistol. To re the pistol, the front of the control lever is moved down into the horizontal position, i.e. the FIREposition. In this position, the F on the lever aligns with the reerence line located on therame. With the saety lever set on F, the pistol will re i the trigger is pulled and acartridge is in the chamber.
Magan - The P Series model uses the same magazines as the popular USP Compact.P Series magazines are constructed o metal with polymer foorplates, ollowers andlocking plate pieces. Cartridges are positioned within the magazine in a staggered ar-rangement but are ed into the pistol rom a single row under the eed lips. The cartridgesare visible through the numbered viewing holes located in the back o the magazine. Formaintenance and cleaning, all P Series magazines can be disassembled.
No Magan Dsconnct Fatu - For maximum unctionality, most P Series modelsare not equipped with a magazine disconnect eature and can be red with the magazine
removed rom the pistol. The ability to re a semiautomatic pistol while in the processo loading or unloading is considered critical in a military, law enorcement or personaldeense encounter. A magazine disconnect is only available as an optional eature on newP Series pistols (not the P2000SK) or can be retrotted to existing guns. Ambdxtous Sld rlas - A slide release lever is located on both the let and rightside o the rame directly above the trigger. These levers are used to lock the slide open,to release the slide, and to disassemble the pistol.
As a slide stop, it is lited upward by the magazine ollower or the operator's inger as theslide travels rearward during recoil or manual manipulation. The slide release engages in
the recess located on the let side o the slide at its midpoint. The slide release is springactuated and is held down out o engagement with the slide until required. The sliderelease will automatically hold the slide open when the last shot is ired. As a disassemblylever, the let side slide release is removed rom the let side o the rame when the slide isheld partially rearward. During disassembly, the slide release on the right side o the pistolremains attached to the rame until it is rotated upward approximately 45 and lited othe rame.
Magan rlas Lv - This ambidextrous, spring actuated lever holds the magazinein place within the grip by engaging in the notch ound on the ront o the magazine
housing. Depressing this lever downward with the iring index inger or thumb will allowthe magazine, regardless o the number o cartridges inside, to drop ree o the rame. Themagazine release lever is shielded rom accidental actuation by the design o the polymerrame and lared trigger guard surrounding it.
Fam - All sides o the polymer rame are textured to ensure a irm grip, even with wethands or under conditions o rapid ire. The trigger guard is tapered with the ront suracegrooved to provide a irm grip when using two hands or gloves to ire the pistol. The rameis a one-piece molded component with metal inserts (locking insert and guiding part) castinto the rame during production. The slide rides on these metal inserts during operation. The ront o the rame exterior contains mounting grooves or the attachment o acces-
sories. The bottom rear o the rame has inger recesses located to the let and right o themagazine well or manual extraction o the magazine, i necessary. The serial number othe pistol is engraved in the metal insert incorporated into the ront o the rame, in ronto the trigger guard, on the let side o the slide, and on the barrel locking block.
SiGHTS AND SiGHT ADjUSTMeNTThe P Series uses the proven 3-dot sighting arrangement. By aligning all three dots hori-zontally on the target, with the ront sight dot centered between the rear sight dots, theoperator can quickly and easily engage the target with a high degree o accuracy.
The rear sight can be adjusted or windage by driting the sight to the let or to the right, depending on the desired shot placement. Bullet impact on target will move in the samedirection that the rear sight is moved. Be careul not to damage the slide inish when ad-justing the rear sight.
Adjustments or elevation are accomplished by exchanging the ront sight with a higheror lower sight. The height o the ront sight is indicated on the bottom o the sight blade. The ront sight must be removed by using a drit punch or an HK-approved sight pusher(contact HK Customer Service Sta or more inormation).
To raise the bullet impact on target, a shorter ront sight is installed. To lower the bulletimpact on target, a taller ront sight is installed. Installing the next higher or lower rontsight will change the point-o-impact 2 inches at 25 meters, depending on the ammunitionused. P Series pistols are unction ired and zeroed at the actory at 25 meters, point-o-aim, point-o-impact. Your actual zero may vary depending on the ammunition used and/or your style o shooting.
