The DARcorporation Advantage
Experience in the design, detailed analysis and building of prototypes gives DARcorporation a unique advantage over other companies, since we can go from initial design all the way through full size manufacturing. The unique tools we developed for design and analysis make DARcorporation the best choice for any new or existing aeronautical project. DARcorporation engineers can advise on what the best materials are for your design and what the best configuration is. We will work with you to design and optimize your aircraft for performance, manufacturability and cost.

NASA WFF, University of Kansas and DARcorporation cooperated on the design, simulation, fabrication and installation of P-3B radar integration: 15 MCoRDS radars as wind installations; Accumulation, Snow, and Ku-band radars as bomb bay installations.
DARcorporation engineers actively participated in this project by doing CAD design, aerodynamic trade studies, static and dynamic structural trade studies and fabrication. DARcorporation engineers analyzed 21 aerodynamic trade study cases and 12 static and dynamic structural trade study cases.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) cases were analyzed to check flow characteristics in the vicinity of the installation. A series of performance studies were also conducted to see the implications of the installation on drag and hence range and endurance. Turbulence and icing conditions are also inspected.
Finite element models of the fairings were developed and various extreme load cases were simulated. The attached
structure experiences extreme sizing conditions dictated by the extreme Greenland weather. The attached structure is sized to not only survive the extreme load conditions by itself, but also to not introduce unacceptable additional loads to the P-3B structure. Structural stability, dynamic modes and fatigue are also inspected to ensure safe flights.
DARcorporation engineers were also involved in the fabrication and installation of the composite/metal fairings. DARcorporation personnel constructed the 10 metal pylons that hold the radar installation, constructed the forward bomb bay internal structure and helped with installation at Wallops.
The installations successfully passed limit static load test and dynamic modal test, showing no structural failure and unfavorable resonances.
The P-3B antenna assembly was test flown successfully on April 28, 2010.

A team of University of Kansas CReSIS researchers and DARcorporation engineers, under the guidance of Dr. Richard Hale & Dr. Chris Allen, developed a five-element ground penetrating antenna array for the MCoRDS (Multichannel Coherent Radar Depth Sounder) installation on the DC-8 in support of NASA’s Operation ICE Bridge to use a radar-mounted DC-8 jet to study polar ice sheets and the effects of climate change on those sheets.
DARcorporation engineers analyzed the aerodynamic characteristics and the structural configuration. The array is suspended beneath a ground plane and housed in composite fairings. The installation is designed to withstand the extreme temperatures at cruise and loiter altitudes in Antarctica.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) cases were analyzed to check for supersonic flow in the vicinity of the installation. And a series of performance studies were also conducted to see the implications of the installation on drag and hence range and endurance. An aerodynamically optimized shape of the fairing was developed based on the results from the performance trade studies and the CFD studies.
A finite element model of the fairing was developed and various load cases were simulated. The attached structure experiences extreme sizing conditions because of operatong conditions. The attached structure is sized to not only survive the extreme load conditions by itself, but also to not introduce unacceptable additional loads to the DC-8 fuselage. Structural stability and dynamics are also checked to ensure a safe flight.
DARcorporation engineers were also involved in the fabrication of the composite fairing for the installation. The fabrication and installation were based on the results from this finite element
analysis.
The MCoRDS Antenna Assembly was flown successfully on the DC-8 for the first time on September 11, 2009.

DARcorporation is proud to be a part of The Samson Motorworks Switchblade™ project! The Switchblade is a 3-wheeled car, part motorcycle, and part plane and will allow you to fly out from a local airport, land at your destination, then drive to the front door! Mr. Sam Brousfield, CEO and President of Samson Motorworks, Inc. is planning a release date in late 2011.
Auburn Journal Article, by Andrew DiLuccia
Excerpt from Samson Motorworks News Letter:
.....Samson motors recently made a very tough decision regarding future development on the Samson Switchblade. A review was done at the end of the last engineering cycle in February, where it was apparent that a three-surface aircraft design may be the winning ticket. It was a hard decision, as Swift has a very good reputation. In the end, however, it was difficult to turn away from the engineers at Design Analysis Research Corp (DAR Corp) with their hard-won commercial experience working on the Piaggio Avanti, also a three-surface design. They also have engineers with vehicle design experience on staff, which fills out the experience needed to pull off this kind of design.
The decision was made and we are now moving ahead rapidly, working with Willem Anemaat, PHD, of the DAR Corp in Lawrence, Kansas. Samson CEO and Founder, Sam Bousfield, and Anemaat have been collaborating on finalizing the design for the Samson Switchblade Multi Mode Vehicle. .....

AirVenture 2009!
DARcorporation engineers had just three weeks to design, build and deliver this engineering cut-away mockup of the Samson Motorworks Switchblade to Oshkosh Wisconsin for Air Venture 2009!
The Switchblade mockup included a fully functional wing folding mechanism operated by electrical motors and controllers that determined the speed and direction of the folding wings. A working instrument panel controlled the wings and locking mechanisms.
Sam Bousfield, President of Samson Motorworks, reported great success at Oshkosh and announced first flight this time next year, with kit deliveries o
