Fugro G2, GPS+GLONASS Service
• Orbit & clock Precise Point Positioning (PPP)
– Using more accurate orbits than broadcast ephemeris and very precise real-time satellite clock corrections
– Using carrier phase dual-frequency measurements to get decimeter accuracy
• Broadcast via Geostationary satellites

GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou in Perth
30 Aug 2013, 14:30 UTC
/ 12 /
In the Far East, including BeiDou, typically 25 satellites are available at any time
www.fugro.com
BeiDou only in Chiwan, 4 hours, no GEOs
/ 13 /
• Convergence with GPS/GLON• No Geostationary BeiDou Sat• Not 24 hour coverage with BeiDou only• At Fugro G4 introduction, no GEO
satellites will be used
www.fugro.com
BeiDou only in Perth, 24 hours, with GEOs
/ 14 /
• Convergence without GPS/GLON• With Geostationary BeiDou• 24 hour coverage with BeiDou only• In Fugro G4, GEO satellites will be
introduced later

Obstructions
/ 16 /
In many applications obstructions is a problem. You miss out on satellites when you most
need them, e.g. operation using Dynamic Positioning close to an offshore installation.

Dual Independent Delivery Paths
Network Control Centres in Perth and Houston utilise different satellite uplinks and different
broadcast communications satellites in each ocean region to ensure link independence.

Advantage of additional GNSS today
Today and in the short term additional GNSS satellites are used in a combined solution, with improved:
• Availability– Combined systems improve availability of
satellite navigation in situations where parts of the sky are obscured (Shadowing, Scintillations).
• Reliability, Accuracy– Additional lines of position help to identify
bad measurements (RAIM, Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring) and improve satellite geometry. (Also improved spoofing detection)

Advantage of additional GNSS in the future
In the future when additional GNSS become available, they can be combined into two independent setups both with high reliability/availability:
– Each setup has enough satellites to provide reliable position with high availability– Errors in one GNSS does not affect both setups– Errors in corrections for one GNSS does not affect both setups– Will provide increasingly better performance as BeiDou and Galileo become fully
operational

Summary
§ Chinas' BeiDou has 14 satellites in orbit§ Europe’s Galileo GNSS System has 4 satellites in orbit
§ Fugro G2 GPS/GLONASS orbit/clock decimeter level system being extended to other GNSS’s– First Fugro Galileo only Decimeter level positioning March 2013– First Fugro BeiDou only decimeter level positioning August 2014
§ Additional GNSS satellites provides opportunity for improved performance– Improved availability, reliability and accuracy in combined systems– Independent services

Galileo launch injection anomaly, Aug 22 2014
/ 26 /
• Upper stage of the Soyuz launch system did not work properly
• Inclination 49.8º (55), Ecc.: 0.23 (0)• 13700/25900 km above ground
• Crosses GPS/GLONASS orb.• In Van Allan Radiation belt
• Hydrazine and (cold) Helium pipes too close, Hydrazine pipe froze.
• The satellites have by far not enough Hydrazine fuel to reach correct orbit.
• Will Increase lowest orbit point
• Next launch in December will be delayed to February
