Characteristic
Character CreationThe character creation procedure broadly follows that of standard Pendragon. Players must first choose a Race, then a class. Stats are then rolled or 70 points distributed. Max is 18 modified by racial adjustments. Also POW stat (as per RQ/BRP)Roll all left-hand traits on 3D6 and modify by racial and class modifiers (no Pious/Worldly). Add 5 points as desired, with a maximum of 19 and a minimum of 1.
Apply starting passions as per race.
Apply class skills.
Roll defining characteristic (Table)
Increase 2 Stats/Traits/Passions by +1 each (subject to maximums etc)
Add +15 points to skills as desired, maximum 15.

Two-tier Magic - Greater and Lesser
Greater magic is as 4th Ed magic system - huge effects (Istari only??)Lesser magic as below
Magician characters have a Magic Lore skill or skills and a POW Stat. The magic lore could be fire magic, water magic, healing magic etc, and a character could have more than one.
All effects would be graded 1-5 (similar to Maelstrom or Ars Magica) along the lines of:
Fire Magic:1 Create a small flame2 Create a flame along a sword blade3 Create a small Fireball doing XX damage4 Create a burst of flame injuring several enemies5 Create an Inferno, or XX small fireballs, 1 per round
So Johnny the fire mage wants to throw a small fireball. First he has to make a Magic Lore skill roll (Remember in Pendragon, roll under skill on D20. A 1 is a fumble and = your skill is a critical success). This magic lore roll is at -2 for each level of the effect. He has a Fire Lore of 14 and rolls a 7. Success.
If the Magic Lore succeeds, the mage remembers the spell formula. Then he has to roll against POW a number of times equal to the effect. Johnny has a POW of 16, and is casting a level 3 effect, so has to roll 3 times.A Critical success counts as 2, a success as 1, a failure as 0 and a critical failure as -1. The results of the rolls are added up, and must equal or beat the effect level. Johnny rolls a critical success, a success and a failure (2+1+0=3), so his spell succeeds. If the total had been 1 or 2, the spell would fail. However, a total of less than 0 is very bad indeed (getting worse as the total gets less). I need to think about the exact effects, but the Eye of Sauron and Corruption are possibilities. The Power roll may also be modified by the local magical level, items etc.
This would also work nicely for enchantment skill (Dwarves / elves etc), where one power roll would have to be made per month (?), but in effect all rolls made at the end of the enchantment period. Thus possible to waste a year on a failed effort.

Description:
Grimbold is a doughty warrior from the Dwarven mountains. He is known to bear a grudge, and does not always weigh up the evidence before making a judgement on someone. He is not hasty to act, and always considers the consequences, and is very brave.
He does have his races hatred of Orcs, but surprisingly trusts elves even more.
He seems to be naturally good with animals, and has spent some time learning how to deal with them.
