GU: Nephritis
Hematologic:Anemia,thrombocytopenia,leukopenia,neutropenia,prolonged bleedingitme
Hypersensitivity:Rash, fever, wheezing,anaphylaxis
Local: Pain, phlebitis,thrombosis at injectionsite, Jarisch-Herxheimer reactionwhen used to treatsyphilis
Other:Superinfections,sodium overloadleading to heart failure
Before- Observe 15 rights of drugadministration.- Reduce dosage withhepatic or renal failure.- Assess for hypersensitivityto drug.- Assess for anycontraindications to thedrug.- Educate about sideeffects of drug.
During- Drug is not for IV use. Donot inject or mix with otherIV solutions.
- Give IM injection in upperouter quadrant of thebuttock.- Avoid contact with theneedle.- Withdraw needle asquickly as possible to avoiddiscomfort.- Stay with patientthroughout whole durationof administration.
After- Monitor client for at least30 minutes.- Arrange for regular follow-up, including blood tests, toevaluate effects.- Instruct to report difficultybreathing, rashes, severepain at injection site, mouthsores, unusual bleeding orbruising.- Instruct to take medicationas directed for the fullcourse of therapy, even iffeeling better.
- Do proper documentation.
