g{x DDà{ fâÇwtç |Ç bÜw|ÇtÜç g|Åx ]âÇx DJ? ECDK From the Pastor: My Friends in the Lord Jesus, “We walk by faith, not by sight,” St. Paul says in our second reading today from his Second Letter to the Corinthians. Walking by faith and not by sight is an act of courage. Two separate times in today’s passage St. Paul uses the word courage. We are always courageous because we walk by faith; we are always courageous because our desire is to be with the Lord in Heaven while yet on earth. The Grace of the Lord within each of us is a transformative grace. As described in the parables in today’s gospel passage about different types of seeds planted and growing, the seeds are transformed into a yield for the Lord / the planter of seeds. The seeds of faith, hope and love are planted within our hearts by the Lord. We are by his Grace, to cultivate and nourish them in order to yield a harvest for God. It is a harvest of holy living, of conversion of heart and mind. Everyday holiness, Pope Francis says, is a journey. And the first element needed to achieve it is courage. The path to holiness takes courage. It is the kind of courage that leads to an encounter with Jesus, that hopes every day, for an encounter with the Lord. The Pope says “We cannot achieve holiness on our own. No, it is a grace. Being good, being saintly, going every day a little step forward in the Christian life is a grace of God and we need to ask for it. It is a journey one must take with courage, with hope and with the willingness to receive this grace...The path to holiness is simple. Do not go back, but always moving forward…And with fortitude.” Fr. Ron

11TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive good or evil,
according to what he has done in the body.” (2 Corinthians 5:10)
We are all accountable for the gifts God has given us------ our time, our talent and our treasure. Each of us is account-able not only for our own life but for the lives of others as well. One day God will ask each of us what did we do with the gifts we were given. How will you respond?

“A little mercy makes the world less cold and more just.”
—Pope Francis, Angelus, March 17, 2013 June15,2018 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
On the weekend of June 24, our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection. Our participation supports the charitable work of Pope Francis as he reaches out to those who are marginalized and suffering around the globe. By supporting this collection, you join the Holy Father in bringing a little more mercy into the world.
Pope Francis challenges us to look at those around us with the eyes of mercy. At a Papal Audience he said, “We encounter so many weary and oppressed people today . . . And how is our heart? Is it merciful? And our way of thinking and acting, is it inclusive?” (Jubilee Audi-ence, Nov. 12, 2016). I invite you to reflect on how you feel moved to answer the call to mercy.
In Iraq, many people still live a nightmare of war and violence. This has left many displaced, including young people in the midst of their studies. Without an educated population, it will be difficult for the country to gain stability. Thanks to support from this collection, the Archdiocese of Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan, has received funding for 10 scholarships for young displaced persons. With this help, the students can complete their university education and move forward with the hope of rebuilding their country.
Let us join with our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help Pope Francis reach the marginalized in our world. I ask that you prayerfully consider how you can best support the collection this year. For more information about the good works that result and the response over past years, please visit the website of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops at www.usccb.org/peters-pence.
Thank you for considering how you can respond to the call to be a “Witness of Charity” by your prayers, your spreading the word about this good work, and by your financial support.
With every prayerful best wish, I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. McManus, S.T.D. Bishop of Worcester

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM WEEK
Religious Freedom week will be celebrated in dioceses nationwide from June 22 to June 29. Throughout the week we will focus on the importance of preserving the essential right of religious freedom, both now and in the future, for Catholics and all people of faith. This year’s theme is “Serving Others in God’s Love” reminding us that religious liberty allows people of faith to serve God and others freely in ministries like healthcare, adoption and foster care, education and migration and refugee service to name a few. The significant feast days during the week (Saints Thomas More and John Fisher - June 22, Saint John the Baptist - June 24, and Saints Peter and Paul - June 29) inspire us to follow the example of these great saints who loved God above all and remained faithful in the face of adversity. Please visit www.usccb.org/ReligiousFreedomWeek to download the ”Pray-Reflect-Act” one -pagers for each day on various religious liberty topics. These excellent resources are intended to inspire us to learn more about religious liberty from a Catholic perspective, help us to pray about particular issues, and provide us with tools to act on what we learn. Additional information can be found at: www.worcesterdiocese.org/religiousfreedomweek.
