CALENDAR TERM 3
PRINCIPAL’S NEWS ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS The P&C are selling entertainment books to raise funds for our school community. Please see page 6 for more information.
UNIFORM SHOP We have a new Uniform Shop Order Form. Please refer to our website for the new form which includes credit card payment details.
The uniform shop now has credit card facilities. They can now accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. The forms will be altered so that credit cards can be accepted or you can simply come to a day when the uniform shop is open and tap your credit card.
For the new uniform shop order form, please go to: http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/p-c STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT Your child’s ‘Statement of Account’ for Term 3 will be sent home this week with your child (or by post if requested). Please see below for some more information. For K-2 parents, it would be appreciated if you could make payment of the gymnastics class a priority.
Why are there additional costs at a public school? Each year, Pagewood Public School receives government funding to run the school. This funding reflects the current needs of the students and school and provides all students access to the minimum requirements of the curriculum. The additional costs in the ‘Statement of Account’ allows the school to provide programs which are not covered by the funding, for example, Mandarin and French classes and some excursions. What is the advantage of using the Parent Online Payment (POP) system? To pay your child’s ‘Statement of Account’, it is helpful to the school if Parents and Carers use the Parent Online Payment (POP) system. This is to reduce the amount of cash being handled at school by students and staff. To pay by POP, please go to the Pagewood Public School website at http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au and select ‘Make a payment’. Parents and Carers are welcome to pay for two or more children in one payment. Can parents still pay in cash? Payments can still be in cash. If paying by cash, please send in payments on Tuesday to your child’s class teacher with their ‘Statement of Account’. When paying by cash, please clearly mark your child’s name, class, and each item that you are paying for.

What if parents are having difficulty meeting these costs? I appreciate some parents may wish to pay in instalments or may have difficulties meeting these costs. Please contact me in confidence if you would like to discuss this matter. Why are payments required prior to an excursion? Payment for activities such as an excursion is required prior to the excursion. This is because many excursions, and travel to and from the excursion venue is paid upfront by the school. If you would like further information, you are welcome to contact me. Thank you to those families who have settled their Statement of Account online during the holidays. There are a small number of families whose account is now overdue. Parents are encouraged to pay all fees if possible before the new Term 2 Statement of Account is sent home next week. KK AFTERNOON TEA – TUESDAY 31 JULY from 3.15pm-4.00pm Parents of KK are invited to afternoon tea in KK’s classroom to meet Ms Sara Kelly. An invitation was sent home with the children of KK last week. MINDQUEST 2018 The 88th MindQuest program will be held at St George Girls High School on Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 September 2018. This program is for gifted and talented students. If you would like your child to participate, you can collect a brochure from the office and make a booking.

BOOK PARADE and GRANDFRIENDS’ DAY – Tuesday, 14th August, 2018
Book Parade and Grandfriends’ Day will take place on Tuesday 14 August, 2018 in week 4. The children will be able to dress up as a character from a book. It helps if they carry the book with them or a copy of the books front cover. They may wear their costume all day. Each class will parade their costumes on the basketball court to music. Family and friends are welcome.
Please treat the making and preparation of dressing up for the book parade as an opportunity to work together as a family. This is not a competition with prizes. Recycle, re-use and be innovative.
Grandparents are especially invited as this day also doubles as Grandfriends’ Day. No prizes will be awarded as all efforts are appreciated.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS If parents or grandparents wish to volunteer at school, they are required to complete two documents and hand these to the school office. These documents are called Appendix 5 and Appendix 6 and can be found on our website at: http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/notes . These documents replace a Working With Children Check which is no longer required for parent volunteers in schools.
ASSEMBLY 2.30pm Assembly – school leaders WRITING Writing continues to be a focus across the whole school. Last week, all learners were given five characteristics (below) to include in their narrative. You may like to ask your child what they wrote about. This term we are using pictures as a writing stimulus. Please click on the link below to see the image used for writing in last week. . Link to writing stimulus and select the image: http://www.pobble365.com/journey-to-school-2
PAGEWOOD’S PROBLEM SOLVER If your child would like to participate in this week’s Pagewood’s Problem Solver, please have your child write their answer on a piece of paper with their name and class, and hand this to Mr Tan by Friday. All solutions are welcome and parents are allowed to help. The important thing is to have a go!
Last week’s task: What are your goals for Term 3? What do you hope to achieve or learn by the end of Term 3? Well done to Chacha and Eva who have set themselves important and achievable goals for Term 3.
THIS WEEK’S TASK: What is ‘Pi’ or π used for in mathematics? How many digits can you remember for ‘Pi’ or π?

P&C News
ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS – P&C FUNDRAISER
The P&C are selling entertainment books to raise funds for our school community. Books cost $70 and give you great discounts at a range of great restaurants, activities, travel and more. There will be a copy of the book at the school office for you to view or further details are available online at www.entertainmentbook.com.au You can either purchase a physical book or a digital membership. To purchase a book, you follow the link below and we will send a book home with your child within the next few days. To purchase a digital membership, you follow the link below and the membership will be available immediately via an app on your smartphone. https://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/9n52693 If you have any queries, please contact Anna Demetrios - [email protected]
Your support for our school is greatly appreciated!
Your P&C needs you!
We know that not everyone who wants to help will be able to come to regular meetings, or be available to help during school hours. Therefore, we have some opportunities for people who don’t fit that mould to help out. If you think you could take on any of these roles, please get in touch.
Father’s Day stall co-ordinator
This task can be done mostly out of school hours. It would be the ordering of gifts for our Fathers Day stall. If you love to shop online and would like to help your school community, this could be the perfect opportunity! Your reward? The happy smiling faces of the most enthusiastic shoppers you will ever meet!
Auditor
We need an accountant with a public practice licence to audit our P&C financial statements. We were very grateful to Riten Patel who has conducted the audit for the past 5 years at no charge while his daughter was attending the school. As she has moved on to high school we are hoping to find someone within our current school community who could take over the annual audit.
Market Carnival Co-ordinator
This is the big one. 2019 is a Market Carnival year for Pagewood (the goal is to hold a Market Carnival every second year). As yet, we have not found anyone who can take on the role of co-ordinating the event. There will be a committee of people to help with all sorts of aspects of the event, but we need someone to put their hand up to steer the whole thing. You will need great attention to detail and fantastic organisational skills.
Your support for our school is greatly appreciated!
